Six Flags Magic Mountain Announces X2

X, the world's first 4th dimension thrill ride, is once again pushing all limits and taking extreme to the next level in 2008. This $10 million investment features completely redesigned, sleeker trains and introduces all-new, innovative state-of-the-art visual, audio and sensory effects. X will move from the 4th dimension to the 5th and become X2!

With its 360° rotating seats and head-first, face down drops, X has been one of the most popular thrill rides on the planet. With the redesign, X2 will take you on a journey to a unique and unchartered dimension of extreme only Six Flags Magic Mountain can deliver.

Unlike traditional coasters where trains only parallel the track, X2 sends riders screaming around its 3,600-foot maze of steel track aboard massive wing-shaped trains where the seats extend off of the track to the sides of the vehicle, allowing them to independently rotate you head over heels, forward and backward creating a one-of-a-kind "don't know what to expect next" sensation. X2 launches the extreme thrills of X into a new dimension with the addition of a unique new tunnel and light experience that changes with every ride.

In order for the transformation to take place, X will close in late 2007, and X2 will launch in spring 2008.

A paint job will not help the ride one bit, in my opinion. When they first opened X, they advertised it as an amazing coaster. For many ACErs, the coaster wasn't anything to brag about owning, such as SFMM was. New trains? It might make the ride a lot smoother, but I doubt it. Even Eejanaika is rough, and that's a brand new 4th dimension coaster. A new light tunnel? Boring! I find this another advertising stunt by Six Flags, especially after losing FlashBack at SFMM.

I agree. I think they're just maybe losing people so their doing this to get more visitors. Just kinda like how Disneyland and California Adventure did the rocking both parks, except that one would be permanent and not temperary.

Heh, the new train is using the "butterfly" restraints, much like Eejanaika's trains.

SFMM should add a dive coaster instead of redoing X. 4th dimension coasters have come and go, enthusiasts are looking for better drops and not the nausea feeling.

I personally agree too, I think that they should add a new ride after now losing: Flashback, and now leaving Free Fall. Magic Mountain used to hold the record for the most coasters I believe but now after demolishing some, I think they should add more to get the record back. Just like like about redoing California Screamin to a themed villian ride. Why re-do it when it's already the most popularist ride in the park, build more rides!

I don't care for any Six Flags parks at all. But I have to admit, this sounds awesome!

Here are some pictures of the track being painted. It's looking good so far. But one thing I dont get is why do they skip around painting on the track? Why cant they just start from the begining and go in order instead of skipping around?
