The only things that Movie makers are doing this days are making new versions of old movies. I have many Ideas for Movies but Im not old enough to start making my own. People are running out of Ideas. This month I found myselfe wathching old movie and thinking how creative people were.
I havnt been to the movie theater as much as last year. And today I watched the breakfast club 3 times. lol
Has anybody else noticed that ppl are not being as creative as before?

As a film critic and sports videographer (honestly, not as impressive as it sounds), I wholeheartedly agree. But much of the lack of creativity has to do with the way that hollywood has grown over the years. Films are more expensive to produce, which means they need to sell more tickets, so that they can attempt to make a profit. Best way of doing that is to do what's tried and true, what audiences want to see.

Only a small number of films that are different are successful. I mean, Cinderella Man is not your typical summer blockbuster. It's original and *gasp* has a plot! On the other hand, The Longest Yard is a remake of a 1974 film. Yet Cinderella man has earned nearly a third as much ($49.8 Million to the Longest Yard's $141.9M).

END RANT

Basic point of all that: More creativity, less sequels and remakes (::coughHERBIEcoughcough::).

Those old movies are awesome! I really love alot of old black & white films, even some silent movies...it's cool to watch how film making has progressed through the years.

If you're serious about this, look into film school...follow your dreams!

some of the black and white movies are beter than movies today, like that Christmas one we watch every year "It's a Wonderful Life".. and this funny one I saw of two ghosts... etc... BLACK AND WHITE = pretty good films :D

Heck, you can learn quite a bit from just watching films. And if you've got a camera at home, fool around with that and see what you can do with it (and if you don't have a video camera, a photo camera helps you to visualize things).

Oh, and one other note - if you have some ideas, write them down. Even if you think it's just some short 2 minute conversation between two people, putting it on paper helps you to make it better.

Either way, learn from what you make - it'll only make you better.

EDIT: PM me if you'd like some more info/advice/questions answered.

This month I found myselfe wathching old movie and thinking how creative people were.

Keep in mind that much of what we watch now of "old movies" were the great movies from the past. There was plenty of junk then - we just don't see it now! The future will look back on our age the same way - they will remember our best, and conveniently forget the rest.

There were even remakes back in the early days of movies! Not only would they copy each other, but they would take plays (which people had seen before) and turn them into movies. They were so short of ideas they made movies about making movies and they tossed in some songs so you wouldn't notice (and some of these are what we consider classics!)

The ideas are out there and, more importantly, are in you. As noted in another post, Hollywood has a formula, and for the most part they stick to it. You will find some great movies in the formula, and some movies (both good and bad) that go outside the formula, but both are rare.

Fortunately (and unfortunately), and increasingly, the indie movie scene is beginning to grow. Fortunately, because it means you have increasing power to make your own movies and get them seen. Unfortunately, because so many others will as well that it might make it harder to get them seen and to make money off doing so.

But keep heart! There is always room for talent - although perhaps not money, and perhaps you will have to work hard to show it. (That didn't sound very encouraging, did it.)

People should note that when watching memorable quites.... many were from older movies in the top 100.....

Older movies had ingenious experimental ideas.. today everything is easier.. so we loose creativity....

Think about this... some studios get too sure of the bad stuff coming out... (I suffered through bewitched..)

Some studios are not sure.. they decide to remake classics.. or adapt classical books and radio shows...

And most of the "remakes" bomb or aren't worth seeing (Wild Wild West, The Haunting, etc.). I think those who question why people don't go to the movies anymore can pretty much answer the question themselves - I don't go to the show much because there isn't much worth seeing and paying $8.00 and up for. I'd rather stay home and watch a DVD in the comfort of my own living room.

Okay - off my 40 something soapbox now...Thank you for listening. :wave2:
