As discussed on another site(even tho is was about SFs):

Never, ever give out your last name (first name is usally okay, use your judgement)

Never, ever give out your street address

Never, ever give out the City in which you live (members, that goes for here too in your location)

Never, ever, even think about giving out your phone number

Never give out the name of your school (too much info)

Never give out your age or birth date (without the year is okay)

Never give out the name of your local sports team (If you live in Washington and like the Seahawks, that's vague enough.)

Don't give out e-mail addresses

Don't give out names of brothers, sisters, friends, or parents

Don't give out any other personal information that could lead to your whereabouts.

If someone asks you for any of this information and it doesn't feel right, immediately delete them from your friends list for safety reasons. It could be that they just don't know the safety rules, but don't take that chance.

Always remember that the person on the end of that other keyboard might not be who they say they are. Always be cautious and keep yourself safe. You are your best asset.

(That was quoted from another site)

Well now that you mentioned that..what about this whole thread? I think you hit it right on the head, and lets start with safety here.

Forgive me, as I am confused by this post. When you are speaking in regards to these rules, are these meant to apply to people on the forums here? I can understand for young children, and even young teenagers... but adults? :@@:

Those rules are safety parameters which can "help" people to stay safe.. but IMs don't usually have rules.... hence the spam recently... :10_1_23:

Note how people have changed things.. recently around here.. (expects that thread to disappear within few weeks..) :reporter:

I can understand for young children, and even young teenagers... but adults? :@@:I have seen some of the adults on here talk about their kids playing VMK too. I know that I myself will (and usually do anyway) adhire to the guidelines as an example to my child. Let's not forget that there are also quite a few on the boards here that are not of age yet either. I vote that this be a sticky - or that a sticky be created for this topic!
:twocents: (that's my $.02)

Also, if you direct connect in aim or any other messengers, do not accept pictures or anything because they could have keyloggers which will log your password and they can take your stuff, it happened to me in another game and it was horrible.
