On the Other Side
Chapter One.
I never really thought about life, and all it had to offer. I never thought about friends, because they were always just... there. I never thought about homework, because I was entirely too smart for it, anyway. But I always thought about love.
What does it feel like?
Is it enjoyable, or scary?
I thought that I was pretty pathetic, considering.
I had never even gotten a piece of it.
Not even a crumb.
Every night I told myself, "Tomorrow, I will feel love." It's waiting just around the corner... right?
***
It was Friday night, right before the dance.
"Oh gosh, Brooke! You look so... amazing!" Marissa said to me, looking me up and down. I did look awfuly cool, I had to admit.
My hair was straightened just right, my side bangs pulled back. My tight, ripped up jeans were settled perfectly around my hips, and my baggy softball shirt was tied in the back with a rubber band.
I was so excited, because this was the best dance time.
Every month there is a dance at our school, Casey Middle School. In the winter, it's boring and the gym is way too hot.
In the summer, it's way to cold.
In the spring, everything is decorated in flowers- eww.
But in the fall, for those short two months, everything is completely and totally perfect.
The temperature is normal, for once.
The decorations include black ribbons and balloons for Halloween.
And, everyone showed up.
The only problem was that the last time I showed up, I showed up in my Halloween costume.
I was a clown.
Chapter Two.
I was totally right.
Everyone was at the dance, even Jerome.
I was going to ask him to dance a few times, but the other popular girls were with him.
Of course.
Why do I even care though? I was definately not popular material, nor did I care. But if it meant getting Jerome....
Okay, no. Not a good idea.
I walked across the gym floor, squeezing between other people. They were too busy dancing to the music, so they didn't notice me.
After what seemed like hours, I reached the girls bathroom. I pushed open the wooden door, and walked in. I looked at myself in the mirror, and my eyeliner was smudged from the humid gym.
If I left it there any longer, and it would be dripping down my face. So I grabbed a paper towel and wiped it off, leaving my eyes bare and small-looking.
"Hey look, it's Brooke!" Sandy said. She was the leader of her little 'clique.'
Sigh. Why do these things always happen to me? My gosh, all I wanted to do was...
"You want to dance with Jerome?" She asked, smirking.
Of course.
"Why do you care?" I asked, leaning against the sink.
"Well, because he's all yours, that's all, Brookie-Pookie." She slapped my back playfully.
Why, all of a sudden, is she acting nice to me? This must be a trap.
But yet...
"Okay, Sandy. I'll go dance with him... thanks!" I shouted, running out of the bathroom. I stopped right in front of Jerome. "Hey, wanna dance?"
He looked at me like I was crazy, so I asked him, "What's wrong?"
Then, out of the blue, he punched me in the stomach, knocking the wind out of me. I fell to the ground with a sickening thud.
He ripped a piece of paper off of my back and said, "You think this is funny, girl?"
I looked at the paper.
I went to the dance as a clown to be twins with Jerome.
Okay, Sandy. It's on.
Payback time.

No, this isn't going to be a lovey-dovey girl boy story, it will be more of a humorous type of story later on. :D
