View Full Version : The Best Hotel to stay in at WDW?
Shakani 10-08-2007, 07:31 AM (Mods, remove this thread if its already been created or in the wrong place)
I've heard that the second best hotel to stay at in WDW is Wilderness Lodge, but my family and I stayed there last year.
I was curious what the best hotel to stay in was, for future referance.
I know the Polynesian Hotel place is really good, but whats the best? =/
Post your opinions!

AceCaptainWayne 10-08-2007, 10:05 AM Depends what you are looking for in a hotel, if you mean which is the most expensive(so presumably the best) then its Grand Floridian.
DisneyChicky101 10-08-2007, 12:21 PM Last August, I Stayed With My Family At The Contemporaty Resort. It Was So Awesome! We Even Got Upgraded To The 15th Floor (Concierge) And We Were Eye Level With The Magic Kingdom Fireworks! It Was Sweet. You Can Walk To Magic Kingdom In About Five Minutes Too. Oh And I Forgot To Add That They Have Computers With Internet (And VMK) In The Hotel Rooms! If You Are Looking For A Cheap Hotel, Pop Centry Had A Good Food Court, Awesome Pools, And Plenty Of Things To Do. It Really Depends On What Your Prince Range Is.
Stemaboat_Tyler 10-08-2007, 12:39 PM Last time i went to WDW ( last May ) I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. There are views of the ' savannah ' in some rooms. Then there is a 24 hour open access pool that also has a slide. 3 very good restaurants. The lobby was HUGE and also if you want, you can order bunkbeds in your rooms. Very nice hotel and I would not mind going again. Also the workers there are African so it fits with the theme.
Crazy.Maddie 10-08-2007, 01:07 PM :Ohh!! Well when i went with my BFF and her parents, we stopped into the Dolphin Hotel! Omg i looooooove the lobby! and we went to VMK central and made people and everything, but anyways, we prot are laptops and hooked them up to internet and played Vmk! i loove my laptop! LOL Have Fun!
Happy Halloween!
gigarichard 10-08-2007, 01:26 PM I've been to just about every hotel and Wilderness Lodge is by far the best. Beach Club is also great, but the downside is that it doesnt have "Snack Bar" in case you wanted to eat like breakfast. You would have to go to a sit-down restaurant.
I was recently at the Polynesian in July and we ranked it at one of the best hotels, but the Wilderness Lodge most definitely beats it. The Polynesian has a new snack bar setup, at Capn Cooks, which you order with computers. These are great but lets say you wanted a Hamburger, well the only options on the computers are Cheeseburgers. You would have to go to the counter to pay and then tell them you want no cheese on the burger. Very frustrating also that there are only two cash registers and if you go during a meal time, the line to pay takes longer than making your food. Capn Cooks also only has a limited number of seats which is a big downside.
Port Orleans French Quarter ranks as our second best. It is very small and quiet, so everything is close. Some hotels, like Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs, have extremely long walks between the "necessities" and your rooms sometimes. French Quarter has a wonderful foodcourt, with plenty of choices for every meal.
I won't go into our favorite, Wilderness Lodge, because you have already been there.
Hope this helps!
Shakani 10-09-2007, 04:53 PM Interesting, thanks for all your suggestions! =D
larkija 10-09-2007, 10:45 PM If you want to have a good, affordable hotel, look at the Shades of Green resort. It's close by, it's cozy, has buses that go directly to the place where the monorails to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, and has a good breakfast place. I think you should have an Army/Navy/Marine discount to go even cheaper. Hope this helps.
Marysol 10-10-2007, 12:24 AM If you want to splurge - The Yaght and Beach Club, for sure.
It has the best pool, and good food. MGM EPCOT, and the Boardwalk are all within foot steps.
If you don't want to spend much - Pop Century , Its Clean, nice rooms, best food court, and nice pools :)
strikemaster 10-10-2007, 12:49 AM Port Orleans French Quarter. I went there this summer and we stayed there. It is great! They have a beautiful garden, a very classy lobby, and there is a river on one side where boats go through. We even had a carrige go by with like 6 horses!! Port Orleans French Quarter for sure!
CookyHalie 10-10-2007, 01:18 AM the best to me is the Animal Kingdom Lodge!
there is a zoo;), two places to eat at, a gift store, a cafe, an arcade, and awesome with hot tub:D and so much more.
Last year my room was right next to the pool, late at night we could go swimming because I didn't have to walk far and my parents could watch me from our room
MLKnCookies 10-10-2007, 02:10 AM I don't like the ones where u open your door your outside, bc sometime *True Story* frog came into our room. Coronado(sp?) Springs does have a nice pool
jsmall 11-17-2007, 07:53 PM The best hotel is definitly Animal Kingdom lodge. Its so awesome to wake up in the morning and to walk on to the balcony and see the animals. The bunkbeads are really nice too. Its really pretty at christmas time with its tree up. Its really hard to explain but its definitly the most magical resort their.
If you are looking for lower price I would say either pop century or movies. At Pop Century it has nice cool theme, three pools, and its really clean. At movies if you stay in the toy story section its really cool. When you walk into the section its like your in Andy's room.

Shades of Green is only for Active Duty Military, Retirees, reservists and a very few others.

Beach Club does have a "Snack bar" inside the store/gift shop where you can get sandwiches and drinks including some breakfast items.
slinkyman 11-17-2007, 08:23 PM I've stayed at pop for the past 7 trips and I'm still loving it!
the_phoenix 11-17-2007, 08:24 PM I agree with Inkers;pop! is the best Disney-owned hotel EVER!
Kongaloose 11-17-2007, 08:34 PM Depends what you are looking for in a hotel, if you mean which is the most expensive(so presumably the best) then its Grand Floridian.
Although the Grand Floridian might be the most expensive hotel on Disney property, they don't have the largest rooms on property.
The most spacious rooms, and most economical resort, is the Shades of Green, across the street from the Polynesian. I should know, I just got back from a week stay in October at WDW.
I paid $87 a night, no tax, for a room at the Shades of Green. I'm Air National Guard, and the resort is open to active, reserve, national guard, and department of defense employees.
The price of the room (no tax!) is based on your rank or goverment-grade.
the_phoenix 11-17-2007, 08:41 PM Ahhhhh, the Grand Floridian.
How could I forget about that?!
But yes, it is kinda of expensive.
oogabooha 11-25-2007, 01:27 PM I LOVE the whole atmosphere of the polynesian and contemperary. sadly, we stayed at a sea-world hotel in august and had to drive there. :-(
i love the hotels that are in the range of the monorail circle that brings you to the magic kingdom, mostly the polynesian and contemperary.
if you can't do that or don't want to, the dolphin and swan hotels are EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!! You get boat rides to EPCOT and MGM
coolJamz 11-25-2007, 01:39 PM if your looking for something nice and affordable, try the boardwalk hotel!
its located on a "Boardwalk" with a nice little lake/river kinda thing around it. its right near epcot, and downtown disney, and you can take boats around. They have an awesome pool outside, and its just a very Nice hotel, huge lobby, old time movie rollers (where you crank them to watch a movie) right in the lobby, nice hot chocolate, NICE VIEWS!!!!!!!!! and, the bus stop to get to the other parks is close by!

Don't forget the hilarious family bikes! Heh... memories...
jakerinobino 11-25-2007, 02:13 PM I think Animak Kingdom is the best >_> :)
Stemaboat_Tyler 11-25-2007, 03:30 PM I think Animak Kingdom is the best >_> :)
not Animak Kingdom. Animal Kingdom Lodge ;)
GoofyGal1213 12-12-2007, 07:30 PM Well i just stayed in Wilderness lodge it was GREAT! but it depends where you want to be, like by MGM and Epcot i loved yacht club, the pool was awsome! But its really what you want in a hotel. If you want to know anything else about WDW hotels just PM me!
TiniPink 12-12-2007, 07:42 PM When I was younger, my family used to Fort Wilderness (Dumb goat ate Minnie Mouse purse. Curse you goat! LOL. No, really, I like goats, but that one was evil)
Then, we used to go to Key West. As I recall, they had this fun recreational room, that provided hours of entertainment at night at the Foosball Tables :xgrin: I always brought like five loaves of bread, rofl. I loved feeding the cranes that waited outside every morning...
Umm.. I stayed at the Boardwalk once. Pricey, but that clown slide was the bomb. I used to run around the entire Boardwalk for no reason LOL. Oh man, we tried one of those family bikes.. AWESOME.
The last time we went, we stayed in Port Orleans, in the French Quarters. That place was pretty fun, too :)
This time however, we're going to the Pop Century. From what I've heard, it sounds like funn
Try checking out or buying a Disney World Guidebook. There's always a chunk of pages on the hotels, complete with reviews and overviews of prices and all that good stuff.
Wherever you stay.. HAVE FUN!
iImagine 12-12-2007, 07:46 PM Polynesian and Contemporary are the best Deluxe Resorts.
Caribbean and Port Orleans: French Quarter are the best Moderate Resorts.
Pop Century and All-Star movies are the best Value Resorts.
lemonysnicket3 12-12-2007, 10:18 PM The polynesian..its kind of hard to find far out areas, and its all spread out. It is nice though.
When I saw the contemporary via monorail, it seemed good, especially since at the time, we were only sleeping there, not doing recreation there. But it is the farthest away from Disneyland via monorail
The Grand Floridian is very elaborate, but it's expensive, and the people there are snooty.
It all depends on what you want.
Mizz.C 12-12-2007, 10:23 PM I've stayed at almost all of the disney hotels and by far my favorite it the disneys fort wilderness cabins and campground. I'm not sure if you would consider it a hotel though. Its amazing! The grounds are so big you rent a golfcart to get around. Theres a place to eat with a buffet everyday. A miniature grocery type shop. And best of all you stay in a cabin! It looks like a real wood cabin, pretty much a house. Plus we went during the winter. So it was absolutely awesome :D

We wanted to go there, due to financial issues, but my mother kept on complaining, and in the house, she is supreme ruler, so we had to listen to her.
wdmountie 12-13-2007, 01:50 AM It really does depend on what you are looking in a hotel. Each hotel is unique in its own way and I have pretty much stayed at them all so I’m going to give my personal rundown of what I think are the best.
High Price Bracket
I personally like the Yacht Club the best. The hotel is very well done and very clean. The pool is my favorite in the whole resort. Its main pool will has granular sand at the bottom, so it feels good under your feet. The fact that it is a boat ride away from MGM and a walk away from Epcot makes the hotel extremely convenient. The rooms are one of the largest in the park, so it is a very comfortable stay. The Yachtsmen Steakhouse is my top choice to eat. I admit sometimes my steak doesn’t come out right, but that happens everywhere. But 95% of the time the food is terrific. (Don’t overlook the lobster bisque and crème brulee –my favorites). I eat at this restaurant pretty much every special occasion and holiday. Even have two waiters as personal friends. :-) This is my number one choice hotel.
The Grand Floridian would be my second choice in the entire resort. The rooms in the main building would be my ideal stay but other rooms are ok also. They are large and comfortable. Since this hotel is a little older, it is not my first choice. The pool is also nothing to rave about. I wouldn't say the people are snooty there...it's just the "aire" of the resort. It is a Victorin theme, so everything seems high class. Sometimes you will get a rude receptionist and that can be elevated in perception due to the "aire" of the resort. But truth be told - you will find at least one rude receptionist at all the resorts. People sometimes just have bad days and it doesn't matter if you work for a Mouse or not. The restaurant selection in this resort is amazing though. Victoria and Albert’s would be my ideal evening. Unfortunately due to the high price tag on this meal I have never personally ate there, but have heard that the food is amazing. I always eat at Narcoossee's when I go over to the Grand Floridian and the food is typically wonderful. My family and I were even fortune enough to spend the Millennia at this restaurant and it was truly unforgettable. However, management has recently switched and I was not happy with the meal the last time I was there. Citricos is yet another enjoyable dinning experience that I would highly recommend.
The Contemporary I would only recommend if you stay in the main building and on the side of the park. Rooms are very old and there is not much there. I don’t like the set up much. The only neat thing about staying in the rooms I mentioned is that you can watch the fireworks from your room at night. Then when the park closes and about an hour later, the whole park lights up like a beacon. It’s really neat.
I personally did not like the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Yes it is amazing to look at all the intricate details and have animals graze outside your balcony, however the rooms were not well kept to me. They were small and very dark.
Moderate Priced
The Coronado Springs Resort is large and a great setting. This hotel is one of the more intricate designs for a resort. It has a southwest theme and it is very festive. The pool is very interesting to see. I recommend at least hop over to the resort to check it out. It has a Mayan Temple as it’s central piece of architecture. The Pepper Market also is a great eat. It has lots of variety so that everyone can be happy. The rooms however as small. I was not impressed.
I would probably recommend the Port Orleans for an actually stay. The rooms are larger than that of the Coronado. Like the Pepper Market, the Boatwright’s Dinning also has a large variety of food.
The Value Resorts
I have not stayed at Pop Century, (built after I moved to area), but I would probably choose this one. Very hip, especially for teenagers. But mostly I would choose this because I really do not like ANY of the All Star Resorts. The rooms are boxes and the beds are incredibly small. These are for people who just drop their suitcase and go. The areas are original, I will give them that but I am one that likes a comfortable hotel room to stay in. I would just hop over to the resort just to see it then go back to my comfy room. I don’t really like the set up of the drive into the resort. The resorts sort of “build” on each other. Like Entrance, (drive) All Star 1, (drive further) All Star 2, (drive more) All Star 3. (I don’t know the exact order - sorry). It’s just not my ideal resort.
Well these are just my recommendations. Everyone will have different experiences and opinions, but overall…you are in the “most magical place on earth” so it is really not going to matter where you stay! :-)
TiniPink 12-13-2007, 01:51 PM I've stayed at almost all of the disney hotels and by far my favorite it the disneys fort wilderness cabins and campground.
I remember there used to be a beach-ish type place there a while back, but they shut it down due to bacteria or something.
I loved Fort Wilderness, too, haha.
That buffet was awesome.
monilynn 12-13-2007, 08:21 PM I have been in two hotels. The Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Disney Boardwalk. Animal Kingdom Lodge was awesome because the upgrade came with snacks on the 16th floor, I believe. And Disney food always is delicious, so we did not have to buy food in the park because we were full up on native snacks. Disney Boardwalk has a really scary clown water slide that I loved for some reason lol :) It is walking distance from Epcot and a waterboat away from MGM. The rooms were old and scary though. . . We ate dinner at the California Cafe at the top floor of the Contemporary Resort (the place I wanted to stay) and it was breathtaking. Especially the Magic Kingdom's fireworks! I love the huge windows all around the Contemporary and the functional monorail inside it that doesn't make a sound. We also ate at the Polynesian to see the luau show and the food was mediocre. I guess I say that because I've been to Hawaii, but the show was mediocre as well. Good Luck Choosing!
Miss.Heather 12-13-2007, 08:29 PM Disney's Beach Club resort.
It's in the middle of the theme parks; WDW and Epcot.
You can walk to either of these and/or take the boat :]
You can go fishing, and it's very pretty during Christmas (a candy-made carousel!)
Well, have fun on your trip. :]

The Animal Kingdom is darker because if their was more light it would disturb the animals. I have no idea why you would think the rooms are small, they are the same size as fort wilderness, and I am sure its the same size as other expensive resorts. Personally I would give rather have a dark room and animals, then a light room and no animals. Not to mention Bomas has the best food at disney world. At all the expensive resorts ( except animal kingdom lodge and wilderness lodge) I feel out of place, I guess its because it has a fancier aire.
My next favorite resort is pop century! The rooms are smaller, but if you get two connecting rooms you dont even notice. It has an extremely cool theme, and three pools.
PrincessSofia 01-30-2008, 03:37 AM the best to me is the Animal Kingdom Lodge!

Have you ever heard of the saying nat-ah-zoo?
Stemaboat_Tyler 01-30-2008, 12:07 PM If you stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge, get the Savvanah View. You wake up in the morning, go on the balcony, and see giraffes, zebras and more.
EtnaGreen 01-30-2008, 01:29 PM You also get to see horned cows. ;) still dont know what they are but that is what they look like.
AllAboutStitch 01-30-2008, 11:40 PM like link said the past bunch of times i've been staying at pop century the best cheapest hotel ever. Now i've never been to fancyier hotels only the All-Star resorts and pop century. honestly i really can't wait until ( or if i ever do ) to Wilderness Lodge. I hear it's completely amazing. So between the two I think your pretty good off
awsomered 01-31-2008, 12:07 AM I loooooove the polineshan
TheFireworkZach 01-31-2008, 12:20 AM Never stayed at Disney, Grand Floridian or Grand Californian look like they pwn at the respective park. If I had to seriously choose, the Pop Century looks pretty nice for what it is..
