Schmoofy 09-14-2007, 11:12 AM I watched some videos and looked at many different pictures last night, and from what I was viewing..
The new staircase scene looks amazing.
CaptianNemo 09-14-2007, 11:18 AM Yes, the staircase is amazing, I cant wait to ride it for myself.
I found the attic scene went alittle fast. maybe just me :)

Garfieldo 09-14-2007, 11:36 AM Sorry, I pretty much never go to the parks, so could someone enlighten me as to what exactly is new?
CaptianNemo 09-14-2007, 11:56 AM Some of the big changes are
There was a room with spider webs abound. Now that is changed to a room of Stairs. These stairs go in all directions. You will even notice on the stairs the eerie green walking footsteps that walk up and down and sideways.
Madame Leota now floats above her table.
The attic is another change. We see portraits of the bride and her many dead husbands from years past.
Then we have a new Bride talking to us.
These are some of the new things that just stand out to me :)

What a great find. Thanks for posting this. This is a great video although videos never seem to do the attractions the justice they deserve especially in something so detail oriented as the HM. I can't wait to see the updates in person.
Couple of points I noticed (however small):
1. The Knight appears to move now. However slighly, he lifted his arm. I don't believe he did so in the past.
2. The "I Do" pop up ghosts in the Attic appear to have been removed. Not sure, though as the timing of this partiuclar doombuggie may have just missed them.
3. The soundtrack through the hitchinghiking ghosts is difficult to hear. I'm assuming that it was either a photographer error or a ride vehicle soundtrack error as I doubt they would pull the audio for the entire section.
4. This may have already been there, but I never noticed with all the hub-bub. In the stretching room, the lights go out, the body hangs and a person screams - - now there is a loud thump clang noise of something crashing. I watched a few other older videos of the mansion to compare, and it doesn't seem to be in those videos.
5. Donald's Rocking Chair (in vmk called Haunted Mansion Rocking Chair) was actually in two places when I was there last (August 2006). This first was in the library. There is a chair there (can't see the design) but it's not a rocker. And another further along with a Donald Duck doll in it. The area where the second rocker was is very dark, so I can't tell if it's still there.
6. The face of the clock is completely white now except for the #13. It used to have dashs for the other numbers.
Destination 09-15-2007, 08:30 PM Here is the article from <another site> they also have a video of the newly redone ride if anyone wants to check it out! ;) BTW, the video is dark so you cant really see the ride well.
The Newly Updated Haunted Mansion
The Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion has reopened. The first visible change is to the Mansion's exterior and the queue area. This area is now covered with a deep red tarp and there are fans discreetly enclosed near the tent top which keep the air circulating for those waiting. There are also lights recessed within the tenting. The Mansion now features a deeper brick coloring.
Wheelchairs are able to travel through a portion of the queue branching off once past the hearse. The entry foyer's painting appears enhanced with better tonal qualities during the transformation. The stretch room comes alive with a variety of creaks from all around and the wallpaper features richer tones. There was debate among us as to the loading area, a series of portraits with eyes that follow you are now above the Doombuggy loading area. Some in our party thought these were located elsewhere previously.
After the bar lowers on your Doombuggy you pass a series of portraits that transform dramatically with the lightning flashes outside the Mansion windows. The portions that follow the library and conservatory seem mainly unchanged but appear refreshed.
Following the conservatory is the new never-ending staircase with haunted footsteps appearing and disappearing. Next we traveled by the familiar Haunted Mansion creepy eyes wallpaper. But some of these now appear to be looking back at you. They are lit and blink as you pass.
The poor guy stuffed in the casket is still trying to get out. Creaks and chills accompany you along the hallway with the doors that seem to come alive.
Madame Leota within her crystal ball now floats around rather than remaining stationery on the table. The ballroom sequence that follows is largely unchanged but once again appears refreshed and more vibrant in color and imagery.
The attic has been the most talked about and showcases many changes. The bride carries an ax and has more dialogue. Her story of various beheaded husbands is exhibited in a variety of portraits which feature these men. Their heads mysteriously vanish leaving the bride with the headless groom.
The graveyard also remains largely unchanged but has received audio enhancement and is improved visually. Tones and shapes of the spirits are more discernable to the eye.
does anyone have any pictures of the staircase yet? I really want to see it so bad ;)
Facnyface 09-16-2007, 03:58 AM It looks a bit odd tsk tsk
I was there opening day woot lol
btw the ride was closed for 13 weeks it opened on the 13th at 7:13 a little spooky if u ask me
Cmkrebs 09-19-2007, 05:47 PM it does seem a bit more spookier in some cases. i would relly like to see a picture of the new bride along with the stair case. so yeah if you got these pictures plz plz post them! i wont be going to wdw til august 2008!
evina 09-19-2007, 07:47 PM wow, i saw the video and i noticed that the same changes were made at Disneyland for the 50th annivarsary. but there is no stairs scene there
Destination 09-19-2007, 08:11 PM I hope disneyland gets the stair case scene
Jacques 09-19-2007, 09:02 PM Disneyland doesn't really have the free space that WDW had. I don't think we'll be seeing it here.
jsmall 09-23-2007, 01:08 AM Looks really cool, I can't wait to ride it.
I visited it last weekend. The new upgrades were amazing - I'm proud to say that WDW once again has the best Haunted Mansion.
Here are the changes and my comments on them. Beware - Spoilers Ahead!
New film effect with very gradual decay on the Master Gracey portrait (in the foyer) - It's absolutely stunning, and it is no longer cheesy as it once was. Very creepy.
A completely revamped Stretching Room sound system. The Ghost Host now seems to be moving around the room as he speaks, and there also seems to be some new subwoofers - caused quite a shake at the bone collapse. Very impressive. There's also a new stretching/groaning sound as the stretching room "stretches" - again, very disquieting.
The Moving Eye Portraits (or some of them at least) are now hung behind the Doombuggy loading belt. Thank goodness they weren't simply dumped, though the moving eye effect didn't seem to be moving while I was there.
The Changing Portraits from Disneyland replace the Sinister Eleven moving eye portrait hallway - again, extremely impressive. The portraits change perfectly in-sync with the lightning effect.
The already discussed Staircase Room in the previously pitch-black "grand staircase" with a few day-glo spiders tossed in. The spiders are gone and are replaced with a magnificent set of stairs strewn around in every which way - it seems to come straight ouf of an M. C. Escher painting. Ghostly footsteps (not just audio, but visual footsteps) appear on the staircases every so often.
A brief Hallway of Eyes is also now added right after the Staircase scene. At first they seem a bit out of place, but you soon realize they are the eyes on the famed Haunted Mansion wallpaper - the eyes bleed into the wallpaper, making it a very convincing effect. Several of the eyes also look around and blink.
Madame Leota, as previously mentioned, now floats around as in the Disneyland version, adding some much needed kinetic energy to the scene.
We have graciously recieved the Constance Attic from Disneyland - the new photos are here, though they remained "headless" both times I rode. They must still be tweaking it. Constance also now moved her hands (a trait she does not posess in DLR) - I was left impressed.
Several of the pop-up ghosts were removed from the Graveyard. All of the audio has been updated and resynced, allowing the Graveyard to be used to its full potential. Some of the characters also seem to have new voices.
The entire Mansion facade itself has recieved a fresch coat of paint, and everything within has been touched up (or dusted up, whatever). Overall I was EXTREMELY impressed with this refurbishment, and I can only hope similar enhancements will be made to other attractions around WDW (Spaceship Earth anyone?).

MagicMonkeys 09-24-2007, 12:19 AM I just went there recently, and it's amazing! The picture hallway has pictures on right, lightning windows on left. Whenever the windows flash, the pictures change. Madame Leota's Head now floats in mid-air. There is a new couple on the chandeleir in the ballroom. The staircase scene is replacing the spiders. It's truly amazing.
Skip-If you look carefully on some pictures, you may make out the heads. They are still not completed with it yet.
Facnyface 09-24-2007, 02:44 AM WDW usually has better stuff then DLR becuase of the space. I'm waiting for DLR to buy out all of them places destory them and add-on. It's coming soon, I can feel it. I'm also waiting for that new villians theme parks that I heard WDI was talking about for WDW.

Are you referring to WDW and DLR at large, or MK vs DLP?

If we're talking MK vs. DLP, DLP wins hands down. It has three extra E-Tickets (Matterhorn, Indiana Jones, and Nemo) not to mention a beefed up ToonTown and better versions of Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Pirates, and Enchanted Tiki Room. Plus they have Pinocchio, Toad, and Alice!
Also, Monkeys - I saw what you were talking about, and at first I was wondering if it was my eyes just playing tricks on me (after all, I knew they were SUPPOSED to be there) but you've confirmed that they exist. Hoorah that I'm not going insane!

The new enhancements for Mansion sound awesome. I wish I could make a trip out to see them. I guess I'll just have to settle for video clips online for now.

Wow seems awesome! I like the effect of in the streching room where the Ghost Host moves around. Seems cool! I hope to go experience it soon! :)

Very astute notices Chele, but somethings I would like point out.
The thumping sound you hear in the video is not at all new, it is actually apart of the original audio, all 22:28 minutes of it. You can hear the same sound in Disneyland.
I am not sure if anyone mentioned this, but if you pay keen attention to the Ghost Host's voice in the Stretching Room, you will notice it is quite fluid now. The original audio is quite fragmented and jumps rather than floats.
I noticed the lightening effects in the hallway scene was quite rapid, not sure if it was differentm but that caught my eye.
WDW also had some new effects to the Master Gracey Portrait. He deteriorates so slow and suttle that the eerieness of the effect is icy.
Don't forget the new canopies for guests. I believe some paint has been added to grave stones and Master Gracy's Headstone has been given much more attention to;)
Everyone else hit the nail on the head with all the other effects I noticed.
cooliome101 09-25-2007, 12:14 AM i haven't seen it yet but i was told they made it scarier is this true? post reply :)

It's basicly what Skip said. He sumed it up pretty good!
i haven't seen it yet but i was told they made it scarier is this true? post reply :)
It varies from scene to scene. The Stretching Room is now decidedly scarier due to the new audio effects (much more realistic and disquieting). The first hallway is hit or miss - the changing paintings and Sinister Eleven have about the same "fright factor". The library and piano parlor are largely the same. The new staircase is more of cool, not scary. The Conservatory, Endless Hallway, and Corridor of Doors haven't changed much. The Seance Circle now has floating Leota, but like the staircase scene, that's not really frightening. The Ballroom is again, the same. The attic now has a much more menacing bride plus the vanishing head photos that may frighten some, but the popup ghosts are gone. Everything else is the same.
So really, it just matters on what scares (if anything) in the new scenes or altered ones.

Schmoofy 10-02-2007, 08:42 PM The refurbishment was an extremely nice welcome to us on Friday. After we checked in at our hotel, we headed out to check out the mansion. The stretching room is very nice now, my second favorite scene in the mansion. The moving eye portraits are barely visible, but are there on the wall in the loading area. The scene that replaced them, with the changing portraits, is well done. The grand staircase scene is amazing, the videos online do this room no just at all. The footprints stomp down, and then dematerialize slowly, an awesome effect. The candles in the room are awesome as well, but difficult to view completely unless you are stopped inside of the room. The eyes are on wallpaper before entering the next hallway are neat, I wish it was put throughout the hallway though. Leota looks much better, nothing more needs to be said. The attic is my favorite scene, especially because of Constance. The headless groom portraits and bride add a brand new effect that has never been inside of "our" mansion before. The rest of the ride is the same, except for one small detail. The ring imprint in the ground after the ride is gone. When I asked a cast member if it was still there I was told, "the ring has been reclaimed in our refurbishment". I had to ride again after hearing this. Sure enough, even with my bad eyes, Constance is wearing a wedding ring.
gpdot 10-02-2007, 09:12 PM I found it interesting that the Pirates of the Caribbean ride was changed to be more like the movie, but the Haunted Mansion ride was not changed to be like the movie (thank goodness - most likely due to each movie's popularity).
The first time on the ride I was looking at the portraits so much I almost missed the bride entirely. Very nice :)
the haunted mansion movie came out around the time of 3 great blockbusters
Pirates of the Caribbean Lord of the Rings:Return of the King and Harry Potter so with those 3 movies u can see y it didnt do to well
bandgeekpiccolo 10-29-2007, 06:04 PM so, my question remains,
Are you able to take in all of the changes in one trip through the mansion if you know what to look for? Or will I be dedicating most of my fastpasses to the haunted mansion (hah.)?
Destination 10-29-2007, 06:16 PM Hey, I have some pictures that I found on the web of the staircase scene. Im gonna try to load them in a little bit

Pretty hard to see what your looking at because it doesn't make sense lol. It's confusign. Hope you enjoy!
BellHop 11-04-2007, 07:14 PM I was skeptical about the changes, but I was surprised. The staircase scene was incredible. The bride scene, eh. They kind of messed with a classic, but it did tie in and make it seem more like a story.
The stretching room was really great. The special effects made it much more scarier than it ever was before.
Oh and the ghosts! Wow did they look incredibly realistic. The hitchhiking ghosts seemed so real! All in all, I really liked the changes
snowegoof 11-14-2007, 10:57 PM It seems pretty awesome! I am going very soon, I just want to know what the heck is a staircase scene?
virtualmagicguy 11-15-2007, 02:04 AM Whoah .. that's some scene! Very awesome work! But I still think the Disneyland version is very original ;)
Stitchco 11-16-2007, 11:19 PM I'm not sure if it was my eyes decieving me or what, but did anyone else notice that Constance holds an axe in her hands when you come face to face with her?
