This is a new thread about Facts of Walt Disney World. This is like those other thread about that parks excpet this one is about WDW. This thread is to talk about the WDW parks: Epcot, Animal Kingdom, etc. Here are some things that I found out.

Soarin' might have a name change and a video change to " Soarin' of America! "

Space Mountain, will be called " Space Mountain: Mission 2 " to help draw in more people to the park, while a near by " Universal Orlando: Harry Potter Project" opens. the ride will feature new effects with stars and other things and the cars will be changed to " sit side by side " cars like the Disneyland version.

Toy Story Mania! is to open in summer 2008 at the park but it might be called " Toy Story Midway Mania! " instead.

Star Tours 2. Is going to be a big refurbishment to the ride with new ride videos and other to help bring in more atendance to the park while the " Universal Orlando: Harry Potter Project " also opens.

Cars/ Radiator Springs. Is suppose to be a new ride like the featured " Crush's Coaster " that opened in DLP. The ride would open up when the 2nd cars movie opens.

Along with the new delvelopments of the new Indiana Jones movies, there might be a new rollercoaster Indiana Jones ride.

Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror 5. May be another upgrade to the attraction.

The Fountainview Cafe` has just reopened yesterday as an ice cream shop. There current flavor list is Vanilla, Chocolate, Chocolate Chip, Mint Chocolate Chip, Rainbow Sherbert, and No Sugar Added Butter Pecan.
Currently, they are not serving breakfast items as they have done in the past.

The Future World Canopies are to be removed in the very near future.

The East end of the Wonder parking lot at EPCOT is the temporary location for pieces of the dismantled wand.

John Lasseter is rumored to be behind the rehab of Journey Into Imagination. It is expected to occur soon, possibly after SSE.

The Oak Trees surrounding SSE are to be removed and replaced with Palm Trees. This will make the entrance plaza resemble it's 1982 look even more.

Permits have been filed for improvements on the Great Movie Ride. It is currently unclear wheather this is for an upcoming rehab.

LEDs will be put on the Hat in MGM (it was difficult to resist calling it by it's acronym).

A crane will be sent to work on the castle at MK in September to put new lights on the castle. These will be Christmas lights. It is currently unclear wheather these lights will be used only during MVMCP.

A second rehersal show of Fantasy in the Sky will be added to MK's NYE celebration on the 29th of December. This makes 3 consecutive shows using the modified FitS with perimeter launch sites.

The MK has 3 permenant firework launch sites in 2 locations. Two at the main site .7 miles north of the castle and 1 on an island in Seven Seas Lagoon. COmbined, they can launch about 3,000 shells.

I'll post more later if I feel like it.

Yes TOT 5 has been in the plannings. I spoke with Joe recently and he said big plans are in the way for DAK but everything is keept secret but there is something really big being planned in DAK. But he confirmed that BK will NEVER be built in DAK, he made it very very clear to me that BK will NEVER be built in DAK.

On the Muppet Vision ride thing, right before you go through the turnstiles or something, there is a note that says " Went out for lunch, Key under mat " with an arrow pointing to the mat or something like that, and if you pick up the map you can find an actual key on the floor. Sometimes when you go to look at it, CM's know what your looking for so something they'll say, hey can you pick up that key for me, and then you go to try to pick it up and it's glued to the ground. LOL. here is a pic I found from a different site of the key.

In the queue for Jungle Cruise, there is like a crate with a big fake spider in it or something, and at the front of the line like where the CM stands were the collect the fastpasses, there is like a little button that they push every so often that make the big fake spider and the crate like jump over or something to make it seem like the spider is gonna spill out of the box and attack you or something. Here are some pictures I found of it from a different site.

Here are some more facts!

On the HM ride, you cant step out of your car or touch the mats that they car goes on because there are sensors on the mat so if you touch it, an alarm goes off and stops the entire ride.

There are rumors about Test Track being rethemed to a more " Cars " movie theme.

When Space Mountain gets the big refurbishment it will possibly be recieving a new song and it is going to be completely rebuilt from scratch.

SM is going to have the same track just more people canride at once. And BK is Beastly Kingdom.

I hope they don't screw up any great rides. I do like the cars for Space Mountain now though.

Also the twilight zone's going under construction again? wow. Oh and I saw concept art for the Radiator springs thing. Not sure how I feel about it. Any word on the HM other than it's gonna include the Nightmare Before Christmas and Beastly Kingdom?

An indiana jones ride?!?! Star Tours 2!?! Omg I think the Harry Potter Land might have been the best thing to happen to me. Can't wait for 2010

Alot of this stuff is rumors you know. Soarin will not be over America as much as over the world and as for the cars area I belive that is in DCA, space mountain is up fo refurbishment in January of 08 to who knows when however the new name is completely rumored. The Indiana Jones thing would only replace the show most likely and not be a rollercoaster but a replica of the DLR attraction. Star tours is also a slight rumor yet is totally possible.

The other stuff above you said Destination is also somewhat true except that cars is another complete and big rumor.

Other stuff that is coming soon is...

The toys story midway which we all heard of, refurbs on the HM, Space Mountain as said above is going to be refurb in Jan. 08 to a mystery extent, and other than the stuff above that may be good or bad something terrible and gravely upsetting to me is the fact that the Tusker House Is closing for another buffet replacing donalds breakfaustarous...yay.

The Magic Kingdom parking lot is the size of Disneyland (Park Only) with 500 parking spots left over.

Also, the parking lot holds the old submarines from the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction.

At the time when Epcot was being built, it was the largest private company project ever.

WDW was originally going to be called Disneyworld.

93% of all Guests that stay at the Wilderness Lodge are repeat guests.

Cinderella's Castle was originally designed to be almost the real height of a castle, but because of Florida height regulations at the time, Walt decided to shorten it a few feet shorter. He could have made it as tall as he wanted but if he went over the certain height, he would have to put a light on top which he though would take away from the effect.

The same exact thing was the problem for Expedition Everest. Everest is 199 feet tall and if it was 200, it would have needed the light.

The river in Jungle Cruise is dyed brown for a more authentic look. If it weren't, guests could see that the river is only 3.5 to 8 feet deep.

Lol I am tired, will think of more later

Also, the parking lot holds the old submarines from the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction.

Oooo, shot and a miss on that one my friend.:wave2: Most of them were held next to the Pluto lot (CM parking) west of the MK for a while before being burried in the property's landfill at the North West end of the property.

Prior to WDW building it's own fireworks bunker on property, the explosives were stored in a former military magazine at MCO.

WDW has the equivelant of it's own government called Reedy Creek. The area is know ans Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID). Back in the late 1960s, the federal government gave RCID permission to build and operate it's own nuclear power plant and airport.

The nuclear power plant was never built but WDW does generate 25% of it's electricity.

The STOLport was built adjacent to World Drive (beginning at the TTC parking lot booths) as WDW's own airstrip. It was shutdown due to safety concerns.

Disney had serious intentions to build an international airport on property up until the early part of this decade. Then came along 9/11 and Disney decided to go with the Magical Express instead.

The town of Celebration, Florida, established in 1994, was designed and built entirely by WDI.

There once used to be a railroad ciriling the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. The only parts of this railroad visible to guests are some wooden ties and the remnants of a bridge across a creek.

There is just a plethora of information one could post about WDW secrets.

Metro Goldwyn Mayer.

GreatGatsby

When Eisner first had the park built, he entered into an agreement with Metro Goldwyn Mayer to share the name. He somehow felt the name MGM would lend more validity to the park.

Since then, MGM - which had been on the skids - rebounded and was eventually bought by Sony. Sony is a huge competitor of Disney's and simply didn't want their name on a Disney park, so there's been talk for a long time that Sony would not renew the contract agreement for the name. Looks like they didn't.

For all of you who still don't know MGM, they are the studio with the roaring lion in the circle as their logo. Best known today for the James Bond films (although those started with United Artists and may go back now that UA is splitting cfrom MGM as a separate division).

Sony also, is a movie company that produces many products, they have also made the Playstation video game devices.

They also own the companys Coumbia Pictures(Spider-Man, Men In Black, The Pink Panther(also produced by MGM) and Tristar Pictures(Hook, Jumanji, Jerry Maguire).

They also own the television channel CBS.

(NOTE to the right disney doesn't own that AK is on the border) i found this out for myself ;)

Hmm here is a a pretty interesting 1..

When you enter Disney's Pop Century Classic Years, On the right hand side you see brown buildings. There are two or three I think. Also you can see them from Hourglass Lake, across the lake. These buildings where suppose to be part pop century. If you look close it is the same strurcture, but they just painted it over brown. They are planning to tear these down though. Ill post a pic Soon! :)

Also...When you get off of space mountain you will see a pooh bear shadow.

Yep, that was supposed to be for the Golden Years (20s, 30s, and 40s).
There is a video up on [one of those online video sites] depicting the structures. It is rather spooky to see the yet to be enclosed and furnished rooms.

The foundations for all 12 buildings were poured and are visible on live local. Infortunately, only 2 of the buildings were constructed because of attendance decreases in 2001. There is still a good chance that theses will be finished a couple of years down the road. I haven't heard that they would tear them down, but who knows for sure.

Yea it was orginally going to be Phrase 2 of pop centry (similar to Saratoga Springs which had 3 phases!) but when September 11 happened they were scared of money loss so they had a major budget cut so now the cafeteria is used for cm purposes and bus driver training.

I think it is quite a distance from Classic Hall, a bit out of way. They are totaly empty rooms though, which must be kinda creepy in a im-not-in-wdw, kinda way. They could use more rooms though, since they always seemed to be full, even during off season.

-On Main Street the names in the windows are the names of those who helped build the park and more focusing on Main Street
-On all the manhole covers there is a mickey mouse on them
-In Epcot there is a talking waterfountain southeast of the fountain
-The castle is made of no stone at all
-There is an empty slab of tarmac near the Magic Kingdom which used to be a runway for direct destination flying
-On Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom when in the final set of qeue on the fast pass side you can hear a slight roaring of a fossilized dinosaur (this is true Ive tried)
-In a boutique sort of shop in fantasyland You can look through a keyhole in a dresser and see tinkerbell every minute or so which is a bright light but in the movie TInkerbell was a bright light in a dresser.
-On Splash Mountain in the steamboat scene you can see the train pull up to the frontierland station.

There is ALOT more of these I found out by myself which I found these by myself also but I need to remember them.

There are possibilities about there being a new Ratatouille Spinning Coaster at MGM.

here are some more facts that i found

The Tower of Terror ride was actually struck by lightning during construction.

Disney Imagineers have calculated that if both towers were to drop at the same time that Rock'n Roller Coaster launched it would bring down the Studio's power grid. This is prevented because the Imagineering department decided to build a power sub-station that services just this section of the park.

There is a dummy room near the top of the hotel. At night you can see a light in the window where there looks like there is a room. It's really just a light but no real room.

Room 259 in the Tower of Terror is the motor room. It is room 259 because it is 259ft above water level.

A violin sound was added for the "Tower of Terror 2" profile. You would hear this high-pitched screeching sound as the elevator made its way to the top before the final plunge. The doors would open and you could hear it in the queue outside. The violin sound is still there, however its only there for certain drop profiles.

Sparks would shoot from the Tower. The sparking would shoot down from one of the letters in HOLLYWOOD TOWER every once in a while at night. It was a nice touch. It is speculated the reason this effect was discontinued was for financial reasons as well as the potential to spark a fire in the foliage below.

Water drip: The boiler room used to have a low-level of fog on the floor as well as water dripping from the cieling in one area. I am told that this just caused mold/mildew problems, so it was cancelled.

In the 5th Dimension scene, there are enclosed areas on either side (behind glass) that used to be filled with smoke to add to the spooky effect. This was stopped because the smoke would leak out and interfere with the sensors on the ride vehicle.

There's a few facts from me.

EPCOT and the hotels do not have underground tunnels. EPCOT Cast Members get around the World Showcase by buses in the back, you can see a few usually parked right outside Italy. MK tunnels are not really tunnels underground, they are really on ground level and the park was built on top. Personal experience, I have worked at most of them.

To add on to the shop. WDW Cast Members can shop at Company D which sells Cast Member exclusives. There is also the Cast Connection which is a place for excess WDW Merchandise sold a bit cheaper than in the parks. The Imagineers have their own shop but you must be an Imagineer or be brought in by an Imagineer to get to it

Those aren't really tracks. The boats are free-floating within a canal-like flume. Pirates has a guide wheel under the boat, and the "track" you are seeing is a channel the wheel runs in. This keeps the boat from drifting.

Anyways, I was making a joke. I'll happily get technical about it, if you'd like, though. ;-)

Seems you know alot about boat rides and all, I bet you can't tell us about Kali River Rapids (that is like a college level question) <---(that is a joke incase any of you don't get it). But SplashM orginally had a wheel under it but since it's rehab a while ago it got put onto a guided rail.

You're right. I can't tell you much about Kali. Never seen it. But If it's anything like Grizzly River Rapids, it's a free floating raft as well. Splash is also a flume. Free floating boats are not on tracks. Guide rails.

And I don't get your "college level question" comment, since you didn't even ask one.

Anyways, we are getting off topic.

Yes KRR is free floating raft. Anyways back to the topic...

Space Mountain has 2 tracks both may seem different however one goes in forward mode and the other goes in reverse.

Not true. The tracks are a near-mirror of each other, so the ride is virtually identical.

It's identical as I said it's forward and revse. Yes I know the car your in is faceing forwards at all times however the tracks your on go in a different direction like if your on the right track the end is the beginning on the left track.

Well, as far as I know, forward/reverse is quite different from mirror layouts. The ride starts in the same location. One tracks goes off to the left, the other off to the right. Then they both end up at the same location.

I must add that during the big drop at Splash, the log is 'caught' by a guide rail and is sent on it's way. This makes for an easier descent back into the flume at the bottom.

Splash Mountain water STINKS so bad sometimes, I wouldnt want to get more wet. When you see people soaked its really not from when you, youself are going down. When you start the ride you pass around the briar patch, before you go up a hill. Right before the entrance to the hill your next to the big drop when people come down squiters shoot out water and it gets the people in the back in every other log SOAKED. This happens every other log. :)

There are possibilities about there being a new Ratatouille Spinning Coaster at MGM.

Disney Imagineers have calculated that if both towers were to drop at the same time that Rock'n Roller Coaster launched it would bring down the Studio's power grid. This is prevented because the Imagineering department decided to build a power sub-station that services just this section of the park.

To answer the theory of the Ratatouille coaster...

Most likely it will not happen, not very much of the story to explore, other than being chased by Skinner (Which would be an odd choice of thrill) or exploring the different foods of the restaurant (Which would be a complete waste of budget). Most likely Ratatouille would be adapted into a fancy restaurant (similar to Gusteau's). A restaurant would be the best choice if it were to happen, I might visit something like that if it would happen.

To answer the Tower of Terror and Rock'n Roller Coaster theory, I'm more scared of them both now more than ever.

However, don't be surprised if the restaurant in the French Pavilion at EPCOT gets a new name.

If there is any ride to be stuck on, I would be happy to be on that one. At least you can shoot the targets. One time I was stuck on It's a Small World for 30 minutes! Three boats in front of my boat sank! I would have to say it was the worst 30 minutes of my life! I used to enjoy the ride, but that song on repeat, will drive you crazy! Don't mistake a flume for a track. They are different. Were those two on tracks, the buoyant motion of the boats would not exist, at least not to the extent that they do.

The boats are free-floating, and the flumes (that is to say, the water containers) keep them heading in the same direction and guide them through their respective buildings.

Jacques
12-11-2007, 12:12 PM
And what you can see on the bottom of the flume is a smaller channel. Each boat usually has a guide wheel pointing downwards, and that sits in this channel. The purpose is to keep the boats from banging into the sides of the flume as it travels.

I think all the rides are on a type of track no matter what. Even the boats need to be guided by something.
The canoes are most definitely not on tracks. Nor are the rafts to Tom Sawyer's Island. (Of course, these may no longer be operating in WDW. I'm not sure.)

Well first of all be expedition everest they just opened a new restaraunt called Yack'n Yeti's ( I am not sure how to spell the name that is just a guess ). Anyways they story of the restaraunt it that a wealthy man lived in this nice huge house, and he lost a lot of money ( can't for the life of me remember how). So he decided to make a restaraunt for the tourists, so he knocked down all the walls, to make it bigger. I've heard its really cool because you can sit in a completely different room each time. For example the wealthy man had a bird room, and he used to have a bunch of birds. Unfortanately they died, so their a bunch of pictures in their. Or you can sit in this patio area, that is extrememly beautiful. It's basically modeled after expedtion everest. Don't expect what you order they make everything.. different but a lot better. ( better info about this later, in a rush )
I have also heard that they are going to put in either a muppet restaraunt or a ratioulle restaraunt at MGM.
Oh they are also testing star tours 2 in body wars.

The difference is easy. If the vehicle is attached/connected, it's a track. If it's free-floating/guided, it's a flume or guide rails.

My bad. Last time I went to WDW, it was '91.There are a lot of people who bemoan Disney's closing Mr Toad at WDW, but I'm not really one of them. I don't think those people ever rode either version at Disneyland, as I have always felt Disneyland's is better than WDW's was.

This is strengthened by how great a job they did with the Pooh attraction.

Jacques, it's everything the DLR version isn't. It's truly a treat. (Although I hear Tokyo's version beats WDW's by a mile, which is hard to imagine.)

If you haven't been in 16 years, I do suggest you hop on the next barge, float on over the Florida and check things out. Especially their Pooh attraction. (But skip their Tiki Room - it's the bottom of the barrel.)

I went to Walt Disney World during the week of Thanksgiving, and I noticed some things: (Please note that some of these statements are my opinions)

There are construction cranes over by Camp Minnie Mickey in Animal Kingdom. My guess it was for the AK Lodge Vacation Club villas, but the Lodge is a bit farther than that. Any information?

Disney has said that they would like to update Star Tours and include new scenes from Episodes I, II, and III. The Great Movie Ride cast members got new outfits, and it really does need a refurb or a new room, just my opinion.

When Disney heard that Universal grabbed rights to Harry Potter, boy wizard, my guess is that they all were thinking MGM. With the new renaming of Disney-MGM Studios to Disney's Hollywood Studios, they could do more with the name. For example: Disney's HollyDay Studios, Disney's HorrorWood Studios, etc...

I also remember reading somewhere that Disney had hired the main man behind the Adventures of Spiderman attraction at Universal's IOA. With the new 3-D Toy Story Mania attraction opening up in '08, I'm guessing they're going to put this guy to work.

The Indiana Jones rollercoaster at Disneyland would not be put into MGM for a number of reasons. One of them was some safety issues that have been popping up every now and then. And honestly, I don't think Disney would have enough room in MGM to place a rollercoaster by the Stunt Show. So for the time being, maybe put in a couple new action sequences from the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull or one of the three other movies?

The Carsland/Radiator Springs attraction is 1.1 (million or billion?) dollar project going in at California Adventure. Test Track does seem like a suitable ride to retheme, but then again, I don't think it fits the EPCOT theme. Maybe a totally new ride instead? I think that Test Track is really short for the wait times it almost always has.

Now Body Wars and The Wonders of Life pavillion.. I say demolish it. I really don't care for a ride that I get motion sickness from every time, but the rest of the attractions were cool for the kids. Ellen's Energy Adventure really, really needs an upgrade. One: it doesn't have a sponsor to help pay the bills. Two: It's too long. A fourty-five minute show is quite long.

I'm sure that this might not be or might be possible, but there is a place by Splash Mountain and the McDonald's Fries stand in Frontierland where a possible new path could be added.

There is a huge piece of property in the Disney World Resort that goes right along the Western Way road. From the January Report, a piece of concept art was released with what looked like a new Downtown area. I bet you could put it right in that area along with a new park.

The ABC Soundstage show in MGM is currently empty. There are talks about a refurb to create a show similar to American Idol, but you vote using the leftover hotseat buttons from Millionairre.

Last but not least, Disney could take a chunk out of the Backlot Tour and put in one, if not two new scenes or attractions.

That is correct the ABC soundstage is where Doug Live! was. The Who Want's To Be A Millionare building has been removed or at least everything in it taken away this was to make room for the new Toy Story Mania ride that is being built. Now as far as the ABC Soundstage when I was there in October they had walls up around the building and I believe I had heard they where adding something although right now I can't remember what it is.

I just read today that Nicholas Cage would like Disney to build a ride or attraction based on the National Treasure movies. National Treasure and Indiana Jones are closely related, so I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of attraction was put into the Studios in the future. I don't really find the Washington Monument and Mt. Rushmore to be WILD! so I don't think Disney would put it in Animal Kingdom. EPCOT.. not so sure.

The Backlot Tour is going bye bye. I'll have to go back and check my podcasts to remember what is going in. There was mention of getting those studios back up and running for productions, not for a park attraction. The Adventureland Terrace restaurant could be turned into a Pirate themed eatery. Tortuga's anyone?

I listen to "Inside the Magic" from Ricky Brigante and "The WDW Radio Show" from Lou Mongello. what others do you recommend? I also picked up the "Window to the magic" Halloween show.

Did you know Walt named them himself? He called them utilidors, a combination of the words utility corridors.

You know, I was drinking water from that fountain and got my pants scared off of me once it was talking O_O Nobody saw/heard (I think..) or ever made a mention of a talking fountain then, all they talked about was Push. I thought I was losing it, LOL. Nobody seems to have made mention of the talking Palm Tree at Animal Kingdom :)

Yeah, funny how I get caught in that every other log.

Yak and Yeti restaurant was amazing to eat at. We were there the week of Thanksgiving and I said we had to try this place out. I recommend it if you have a lot of time on your hands.
