View Full Version : Fixing the CL Program!
bluepopstar 08-13-2007, 06:00 PM Aloha!:wave2:
We've all heard that VMK will be working on fixing some things on the CL Program. I wonder what it will be like. No different? More room for other CL's? Deleting some CL's? I'm not sure what will happen! I hope Yavn talks about it in the newsletter today. Post what you think the new CL System will be like!

monkeyfunkychunky 08-13-2007, 06:02 PM Eh.. I don't really know. I certainly hope it starts everyboody off fresh, so we can still have a chance if we've been banned. I'd love that because sometimes we're banned for stuff we didn't do.
bluepopstar 08-13-2007, 06:07 PM I agree. I have never been banned, knock on wood, but I do think, if anything, VMK should look over what someone was banned for. Sometimes a whole room gets banned because of someone's mistake. Sometimes, there are false reports, because someone may have walked in at the wrong time.

KEBSD 08-13-2007, 06:12 PM Perhaps all the leaders will lose their status, because VMK might ask different questions that some leaders might not answer correctly. However I really doubt that.

VMKFREAK 08-13-2007, 06:14 PM yes i hope they do bc i have been looking foward to being a CL and do they look at your character being banned or just your ip address bc i once got my ip address ban but i am on a new character now
la4gator 08-13-2007, 06:15 PM blech. i dont care
evina 08-13-2007, 11:21 PM i really think they might allow more people to become CL but i think they might also mean the way you can become one will be different
Uncle Alaska 08-13-2007, 11:26 PM I hope they drop the program, not needed
BelieveInTink 08-14-2007, 07:43 PM My friends have seen community leaders in VMK, that weren't very nice to her, and didn't answer her questions. VMK staff should only allow the players that are willing to help others, and that want to do it for VMK not for attention.
It really bothers me that some people only do it to be noticed, and to get attention? Anyone agree with me?
bluepopstar 08-15-2007, 07:37 PM I agree with you. One time I asked a CL a question. They said: "Not now bluepopstar. I'm talking to a friend. I don't want to answer that question either." I was very upset. A week later their CL_ was taken away. CL's are supposed to be nice and helpful, also great leaders for VMK. That, is not a good example. I do hope they start over like most of you said. With an all new application, and all new people.

GreenGirlJess 08-15-2007, 08:14 PM I, however, disagree with you guys.
All the CL's I've met have been very kind. Once, my friend pressed 'ingore' for me on accident, and we had two other friends with us. We were both panicing, because we couldn't figure out how to fix it. The 1st rideathon was going on, and VMK_Red said, 'Sorry, I can't help you.' So, we decided to go to a CL and asked her. She suggested we both logged out then back in, and what do you know? It worked.
I've also had a few CL's come to my room, and one actually requested me to be my friend. He, unlike many of my other friends, hasn't deleted me.
I'm sure there are bad CL's, but not all of them are and they all do not deserve to have their CL status taken away!
mickey0794 08-15-2007, 08:18 PM once i went in a room and asked a CL what they thought something was worth and they said, dude, you're annoying, I've put u on ignore.
i was like, but..
Katiebcat 08-15-2007, 08:19 PM I agree but once in a while community leaders would want to just be with friends with no interuptions of other players to answer questions of other players.
Princessbuster 08-15-2007, 08:53 PM Some Cl just sign up to get the stuff and not help people
GreenGirlJess 08-15-2007, 08:54 PM I agree but once in a while community leaders would want to just be with friends with no interuptions of other players to answer questions of other players.
And that's why you put your room on private? Or go into a friends room?
Facnyface 08-15-2007, 08:56 PM I hope they drop the program, not needed
Exactly, it's a ''popular'' or ''click'' group in VMK. That's all it is, it's not needed. Everytime I request a leader on my mule account they will say Sorry im not accept anybody who isn't a leader or staff... That's just not right!
GVErin12 08-16-2007, 08:33 AM I agree with GreenGirlJess and Katiebcat, some times CL_'s just need to relaxe with friends. Then they can go out and help ppl.
I have never met a mean CL_ i never ask questions, i always just wait to see staff.

I agree, but too, CLs are there to help the hosts out. Sometimes they'll need help running a game or event. That's an extra priviledge they have.
You don't have to have CL_ attached to your title to 'help'. Do it regardless.
mr.blueblob 08-18-2007, 08:40 AM BTW!! heres a secret
with the past CL program they did look past bans.. one time i was talking to a staff member and i said.. i would really love to be a CL, but i have been banned.. and she said that sometimes they overlook bans :)
BelieveNTheMagic 08-18-2007, 08:42 AM BTW!! heres a secret

Um... isn't that kinda the same thing. Over looking bans. o_o
Stitch_inferno 08-18-2007, 08:53 AM yea.. some leaders arent the nicest people around.. but some are very helpful.
Rodeoman 08-18-2007, 09:28 PM Sup bluepopstar think I have seen u in game (anyways) yeah Cl's should be more nicer (not like giving free rare stuff away) oh and i was in the Esplanade and i saw this boy begging this girl to give FREE MAGIC to her i was like "Magic is rare and id think she should but her decision" but i think she left @_@ lol
ok back to main topic; i think they should change\fix it i think after they give the CL name out i think they should monitor them and if they get complaints monitor them again and see if they are doing that
Just A Opinion <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

CYANMAN
Rodeoman 08-22-2007, 01:37 AM LOL i have like ten emails LOL i use all of them
sarboo3 08-22-2007, 02:50 AM I've wanted to join the CL program since I started! But my account got messed up when I signed up for something on disney.com, and I never could log in again. So I had to start all over, and I didn't have as much experience.
Even without being a CL, I've managed to help people, and I only ignore the people who repeatedly ask for free. So far I haven't met a rude CL, but I'm sure there have been some. No one is perfect.
awsomered 08-22-2007, 03:55 AM Perhaps all the leaders will lose their status, because VMK might ask different questions that some leaders might not answer correctly. However I really doubt that.

I wouldn't want everybody to loose thier title
Grooveygrl 08-22-2007, 04:04 AM I hope they get rid of it for good. The CL Program is pointless in my opinion. Nobody really needs to be a CL just to help out.
Susystar 08-22-2007, 04:59 AM I hope lots of leaders lose their titles, So many of them are only in it for the badge.
I'm hoping the leaders already get a application again, just to make sure they are fit for the job.
lightningzoom 09-01-2007, 07:03 PM Yes, I have always wanted to become CL because I know what they have to do. They are there to help VMK and to make sure things are going right. I always help people out, and never Intentionally broke the rules. (I have gotten warned because I was trying to help someone but it came out wrong :( ) So I am really looking forward to this new opportunity. I still wonder what my friends would think if I tried and succeded. I never told them I want to be CL.
Also you kind of get a small protection.
Unless they are guests who have no idea who CLs are, rude people probably Do Not want to mess with you or scam you.
Rodeoman 09-12-2007, 11:26 PM I agree w\ lightning i try to help Amap (as much as possible)
but u never know when helping someone may turn into wrong!
just as lightningzoom said:-)
I <3 Rock n roll!

Moonypie11 09-26-2007, 03:45 PM Oh my gosh YES I agree.
Sometimes I hang around a community leader I know, whenever I can find her, and most the time she answers me...But most of them are like "Don't bother me." If somebody asks for help, they should say "Oh, hey, come to my room (insertroomnamehere) in a couple minutes and I will help you out. Im just finishing up talking to a friend." Because if they cant handle the fact that people are going to ask them for help all the time, then they dont need to be a CL. I would LOVE to be a CL. And its funny--I added this girl one time, the CL's friend I guess, I wont give names, and she deleted me. Why? Who knows. Probably because I wasn't a community leader, or didn't have a lot of rare. But I have been playing for awhile, and I'm always willing to help anybody who asks. Like yesterday, some girl was new to VMK and asked me for help as to what to do. I told her "Well, there is so much to do in VMK! Collect items, play games, chat with your friends." and she said "Where?" and I said "There is a lot, so try reading around the home page ;)" I didn't just turn around and say "Hey, I'm busy, find your own way around, ok?"
CooledCoyote 09-26-2007, 04:56 PM Exactly, it's a ''popular'' or ''click'' group in VMK. That's all it is, it's not needed. Everytime I request a leader on my mule account they will say Sorry im not accept anybody who isn't a leader or staff... That's just not right!
First off why do you want a leader on your "mule" account? I am afk in rooms right now just like everybody else, only when I come back and check my friend list I have 50 more friend requests, figure that into your equation of why I just can't add anymore friends without deleting someone. We can't keep up with players requests, how can we accomodate several mules too? I agree saying no because you are not also a leader is a poor excuse and probably just a variation on the "sorry my list is full" response. Also nobody has staff on their lists anymore.
disdreamer 09-28-2007, 05:00 PM Changing the CL program will be a good thing I feel. It will probably give everyone a chance to apply for it!
DIS
grayman 09-28-2007, 06:01 PM I have a couple of quick suggestions I think would improve the CL program for both the leaders and non-leaders.
1) Change the selection process - There are several problems with accepting applications for the position. They will be overwhelmed with applications, most of which will be from people who either don't understand or don't care what a leader is really supposed to do, but want the honor and prestige of having the title and the badge as well as the opportunity to have staff on their friends list. Instead, they should just take the time between now and when they strip the current leaders of their titles to keep a very close eye on the game logs. Watch and see which players actually take the time to answers questions or help new players understand the game. This would eliminate many of the players who would apply to be leaders, including what I feel is a lot of current leaders. Leaders and players who just go about their business and ignore newer players would not be considered for leader positions.
2) Once you have identified the people who already play the game as "community leaders," i.e., taking the time to help other players and make them feel welcome by answering their questions, it is important to get those players to agree to become leaders. I think this was the biggest flaw in the current CL program. While I do personally know several quality leaders who do live up to their title and status, I know far more players who do the exact same thing without having a different title or badge. I suspect that many of these players choose not to apply for leader status because they would rather help on their own terms. I include myself in this group. I understand that I can help players and use my knowledge of VMK to help people without having a pre-fix. In fact, you couldn't get me to be a leader, at least, not full-time. I think that everyone can agree that while being a leader does afford players with certain benefits, such as recognition and prestige, it also brings them plenty of negatives. They are constantly swarmed by players when ever they enter a room, they all have the same nickname "Hey, leader!", they are constantly inundated with friend requests from players they have never even talked to and criticized when their friends' lists are actually full. It is understandable that any leader might get burned out on such experiences and not want to participate to the highest level any more, or even that other knowledgable, experienced players might not want to subject themselves to this. I have seen leaders complain about this very thing on these forums and have talked in game with many of my friends about the same topic. This is the basis for my second suggestion: Make being a leader a "part-time" job. After you have decided which players can and should be leaders, change the manner in which the program functions. Require each leader to "work" a couple of shifts a week. During these periods, each leader would have the badge and the pre-fix, perhaps even a different title. The leaders would have a specific uniform and no friends' list while they are leaders. This would make the leaders instantly reconizable to players and eliminate the "making friends" issues. The shifts would not even have to be very long, perhaps an hour or so for each shift. I realize it would be a serious commitment, but not of more than 2-3 hours a week. During these shifts, the leaders would need to stay out of guest rooms and mini-games to "patrol" the public rooms of the game in order to find and help players with questions. All of the leaders would know going in that they have signed up for these shifts and if you missed a certain number of shifts, you would lose your spot in the program.
3) Now, since this program would require the leaders to have a specific purpose and to devote specific periods of time to actually working, they would need to be paid. I don't think they should be paid out of game, but could receive a credit stipend for each shift worked. The amount could be based on how much could reasonably be earned by an average player playing mini-games during that period. This wouldn't be a ridiculous amount, would not result in giving the leaders "free items", and would rationally compensate them for that lost time.
4) Leaders would not have any access to any of their leader tools when not working a shift. This means no title, no uniform, no badge, no contact with staff. This not only eliminates mcuh of the favoritism complaints, but allows leaders to enjoy the game and take some time off.
I think these suggestions would entice more of the responsible and knowledgeable players to consider serving as leaders, while also keeping the current leaders who already do a good job. Easing the burdens inflicted by the program would keep leaders from getting burned out on helping and abandoning their responsibilities to go play with their friends.
mickey0794 09-28-2007, 06:08 PM oh i have an idea that would fix the CL problem! it's fool proof!!!!!
DROP IT COMPLETELY
Jenngoofys 09-28-2007, 07:08 PM I agree with Gray sounds like a great plan if VMK goes for it lol. mickey0794 I think there needs to be a leader program due to the fact that there are not many staff around to help these days. Over all VMK does what it wants and we cant change that until we get to give a real opinion other than what tiki pin was our favorite in poll. VMK try polling is for real answers to real issues.

GoofyGeggy 09-28-2007, 07:19 PM I have a couple of quick suggestions I think would improve the CL program for both the leaders and non-leaders...
Thank you, Grayman, for devoting some serious thought to this, and contributing what I think are great suggestions for improving the CL_ system!
ArgoGreenDragon 09-29-2007, 12:08 AM The CL_ program has been somewhat unreliable. One started acting mature and helpful, and the rest tried their best to do the same. Over the years, it's degraded, resulting in people wanting the cool badge and CL_ in front of their names. Good luck with that...
ProfessorBob 09-29-2007, 01:54 AM The first off, let me just say finally! The CL program had some major flaws, as I should know, being a past CL. One of the major problems with the program was the fact that the VMK staff played favorites with some CL's, and others they just left in the dust. And the ones they leave in the dust are usually the ones that help people. I personally, am no longer a community leader, because I was busy with school and did not log on for 3 weeks once. When I logged on, I received a message saying I was no longer a community leader. That gives me the drift that, oh, someone should play on the computer all day instead of doing more important things, like homework or sports practice. Yet, when VMK makes quests, they tell you to go outside and be active. Does anyone else see the problem with this picture??
MLKnCookies 09-29-2007, 01:54 AM I think there is 1 community leader that should stay CL...
Cl_slinkyman!
TravisSch 09-29-2007, 03:28 AM I think there is 1 community leader that should stay CL...
Cl_slinkyman!
Ink.i is a great leader! Unfortunately, I don't think VMK is going to make special exceptions for certain leaders. If they did that, then that would really be showing favoritism. ;)
flaxygirl 09-29-2007, 03:45 AM I like greyman's ideas :) ( i would quote you but that would make me lpost a bit long ) Did you send that in?
disneyzoodude 10-18-2007, 12:46 AM I don't think it will change much for us. Maybe the current staff. Or, maybe he is going to change the application form for becoming a mod.
Whipstersh 10-18-2007, 12:53 AM I think there is 1 community leader that should stay CL...
Cl_slinkyman!
There is a few leaders I believe that should stay. Pebble and Haveamagicalday are two that I can name off the top of my head.
AcePirateDan 10-18-2007, 01:01 AM I think they will find a way to cancel it completely.
Or after a while they will "forget"
TracyBehave 10-18-2007, 01:07 AM I also say they should just drop the program. It's all just become a silly game and people just want all the cool stuff and recognition. I'm not even signing up. I've seen things multiple times about community leaders...and there are a couple things that I have seen that have made me sick.
I've been in lots of rooms for community leaders and stuff, and I have noticed that a few seem to look down on the rest of us players. I have two friends that became community leaders, and have deleted me and changed completely because of it.
I say get rid of the popularity and fancy stuff, and allow vmk to maintain itself! CL's are rare enough that when you need a question answered, usually the first to answer is that normal person that ISN'T busy talking to their new friends and ignoring you.
I'm not trying to sound sour, but I'm just putting in my 2 cents. Most leaders are very good people and to all those who are, this doesn't apply to you. Keep doing what you're doing right!
