I know one of the other Disney board members are linking their rooms through a common "hub" via the teleporters. Would there be any interest in setting something like this up for the VMK fan site.

If so, I would be very happy to purchase a room. Members would only need to purchase a set of teleporters and trade one to me. I would set it up in the hub and the member would place the other in whichever room they wanted to be the connection. The coffin teleporters work best, apparently as they take up less room.

Let me know via this thread or Private Message if this appeals to you. I don't want to purchase a room unless there is enough interest. Keep in mind, that with a hub, if even one member is online, the hub should be operational (I think that's how this works) so if you want to keep your rooms more private you may not want to link all or any of them into the network.

What a great idea! I wish that you could put a sign saying whose room you can get to via that particular teleporter.

Maybe set up a photo album in front of each with a photo and description of whose room it goes to? Just a thought.

Today I've linked rooms with one of my friends (a pin trader) and he linked with other friends. They've linked with other VMK members. Thus, there's like 20 rooms all connected by teleporters. I had fun looking into all the rooms and seeing how we're all connected!! :D

As some people know, I like this idea a lot, and tried mentioning it here before. It's an obvious idea, and lots of people have started doing it, but here were my thoughts I posted on trying to keep it organized, posted in this thread (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=578&page=1&pp=10) on this site.

I also posted the result of the network idea in this thread (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=804) on this site, and will paste a more recent update (still obsolete) below.

Having organized one of these, here are... Some suggestions

1) Do a hub set-up, NOT a room linked to a room linked to a room chain, because if any one room in the chain breaks, you lose your network. This can even happen due to a bug when 2 people use a teleporter at the same time, and then someone gets booted back into VMK and has to traverse the chain again.

(The Intercot teleporter network is a less centralized chain of rooms and is more confusing than at the Dis.)

2) Have as many people as possible own a "lobby room" that comes off the hub as possible. Because only an owner can place a personal teleporter down, that owner has to be available. If you have many lobby owners, it's easier to find someone to place the teleporter down. The Dis network only has 2 people (me and MissBelle) who can place nodes, and it makes it a pain for people wanting to join needing to find 1 of only 2 people.

3) Directories: I originally planned to do the photo labelling of personal teleporters. So far, there are 2 reasons why this is not practical (yet).

First, the photo bug so that you can't remove any pictures, which will hopefully eventually be fixed.

Second, the Maleficent room does not allow you to put pictures on the walls ABOVE the coffins, so you need to leave space between the coffins. However, I think the Haunted Mansion room (which I don't have access to yet), allows photos to be placed higher on the walls, so this room will be ideal to use as a lobby, because photo directories will be easy.

In the meantime, I maintain a text directory of the Dis network posted in a sticky thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=844922) on the Dis Boards, which also describes the reasoning and implementation of the network.

I know it's generally in poor form to post links to outside forums, but in this case, I'm just trying to be helpful and hope that someone here organizes a similar network; I wouldn't mind a personal link into the VMK Fan Site network as well.

In the long run, I'd also be interested in linking networks of networks -- Dis to VMK Fan Site. (The Intercot people weren't interested.) My only "concern" (which is no big deal) is that there are a number of Dis people who also like VMK Fan Site, and there may be redundancy in the network, which will make maintaining directories a huge pain.

I didn't know about the photo/wall bug so, for now, I'll supply a photo album, film and take pictures of members next to their teleporters.

I was thinking of using the Maleficent room due to its square configuration. However, if someone thinks one of the other available rooms might be better, let me know.

I also agree with the idea of members using a lobby for their own rooms. Keep the ideas coming and thanks everyone.

Also, I would be very happy to hear ideas for the name of our teleport room. I was thinking of something real simple like "VMK Forum Central Hub" but am open to suggestions.

Awesome Bezoar! Great ideas there. So in essense I would need 2 sets of teleporters. One from the hub to my lobby and one from my lobby to my room.
