View Full Version : Which "Route 66" - John Mayer ot Nat King Cole?
monkeyfunkychunky 07-31-2007, 03:18 AM Which Route 66 version? I'm sure many of you have heard both because they were each on the "Cars" soundtrack. But whose version do you like better? John Mayer's cover version or Nat King Cole's original? Sure, the first one is always better than the sequel, but John Mayer is a little more "in my generation" so, I'd have to say I like John Mayer's a little bit better.
Goofyono 07-31-2007, 05:33 AM Not a big fan of either
CapnOlaf 07-31-2007, 05:40 AM I'm actually a fan of the Chuck Berry version.
zhilo 07-31-2007, 06:14 AM none. but as stupid as this sounds i think the cheetah girls 1 is better
WWEDiva 07-31-2007, 06:14 AM i actually have never seen cars or heard that song.... which might give you the idea that i am music deprived but i am not really.. music is my life, but i listen to bands more like FOB,P!@TD,and MCR.... bands like that
mr.blueblob 07-31-2007, 06:23 AM I'd have to say the Junior Honors Choir's version.. lol.. i have been in a county choir for 3 years and we did that song.. but from other versions i've heard i'd have to say the cheetah girls version is the best

I agree. I love the Cheetah Girls version.I did however get really sick of the video, they played it every 15 mins on the Disney Channel when it first came out.
WWEDiva 07-31-2007, 06:54 AM i personally really dont like John Mayer so i probably wouldnt like his version and if you guys picked the cheetah girls over his version it must be pretty bad

What can I say, the world has different opinions. John's version, in my opinion, so more jazzy than Nat King Cole's. Nat King Cole wrote the song because he grew up in Chicago and moved to LA, where Route 66 begins and ends.
JazzyJelly 07-31-2007, 01:58 PM love both, its a nice song.
monkeyfunkychunky 07-31-2007, 04:59 PM Yeah, it can put you in a nice mood.

Actually, Bobby Troup wrote it. Not Nat "King" Cole.
This song has had so many versions. Chuck Berry did it.

Harry James
Al Jarreau
Louis Jordan
Manhattan Transfer
Louis Prima
The Rolling Stones
Brian Setzer Orchestra
Nancy Sinatra

And many more. Too hard to pick from the best.

WOW! I just did those two versions because they're both on the Cars soundtrack. I edited my post now, thanks. :)
