View Full Version : Do you think that vmk is gearing to aim at lower ages?
plecoguy 07-16-2007, 05:08 PM All these easy questions everywhere, yavn seeming... weirder... so much stressing of the rules...
I think that vmk is trying to aim for much younger children and throwing out the old. Clearly these must mean that whatever age group they're aiming for obviously doesn't have that much knowledge, or maybe not much know how about disney either.
spot41414 07-16-2007, 05:23 PM I can really see it happening in the near future.

PrincessKairi12 07-16-2007, 05:32 PM I chose 'Maybe' because, yea... everything with the rules is being so strictly enforced and all... Meh, seems like it's becoming that way o.o;
Neoteny 07-16-2007, 05:50 PM What about the ridiculous Fireworks goals on the Autopia quests?

literatly! 7,500 points! for the green car
GoodPolarGirl 07-16-2007, 07:00 PM I could see VMK aiming for the younger ages to play in the future. personally, i think VMK is already a perfect game for younger ages already but the only problem with it is not the game, but the people in it. VMK is now a perfect game for ages 7 and up and once they get a better helping system and more VMK staff, VMK would be a perfect game for people of all ages. :wave2:
sktrchick95 07-16-2007, 08:22 PM i could see it happening in the future... little 4 year olds playing vmk... "hi fellow vmk for ear hold.is!!" says the little four year old on main street. jk i think it could happen in the future like when we have all out grown vmk. But right now they want kids to just play vmk to have fun, make new friends, learn how to be safe on internet chat rooms, and to give us something to do on rainy days.
Stitch_inferno 07-16-2007, 08:26 PM i dont think so, because the quest can be hard and the younger kids wouldnt get the stuff easily. and they would take a big chance in loosing players. so i dont think they would be doing it anytime soon. maybe in the future though.
grayman 07-16-2007, 10:07 PM I do not think they are aiming for younger players. While they may have dumbed down some quest answers and they have been stressing safety lately, there are far too many elements of the game that are simply beyond the average young child's ability to understand. The intricacies of trading frustrate many of the teen and adult players that frequent these forums. How could anyone expect a young child to be able to understand and master these concepts? Neoteny's point about the fireworks scores is also extremely valid. Not only is fireworks extremely difficult, but Pirates and Mansion can also be frustrating at times. One of the more recent quests had a required score in Pirates of 170 points. Usually, the required score is 100 points, which only required being on the winning team. Upping the score to 170 meant that the player, even on the winning team, still had to score another 70 points. I know there are a lot of pirates experts out there, but in a game that goes quickly and only lasts 2 rounds, scoring 70 points can be a tall task no matter who you are. Asking little kids to be able to score this is even more ridiculous. I think the basic goal of the recent safety quests was just to reiterate the rules to everyone in a format that actually forces players to read them. I know we are all supposed to read the terms of use and values before we start playing, but I am guessing very few of us actually do.
It might also have something to do with the change in moderating the game that Yavn mentioned not too long ago. Perhaps if they are going to start cracking down on violations, they wanted to be sure to remind everyone of just what is and isn't allowed before they start.
VMKJen 07-16-2007, 10:15 PM Yes I actually do. Vmk is being very strict. I got banned for 1 month from vmk because OTHER people were telling me stuff.. That's not fair..
ProfessorBob 07-16-2007, 10:40 PM I chose yes because simply, if VMK gets younger visitors the more likely they would be to grow up liking Disney, therefore Disney would be getting life-long DRL or WDW goers.
Hey, it worked for me. :)
JazzyJelly 07-16-2007, 10:50 PM I think VMK is fairly schizophrenic on this...my (young) children enjoy playing VMK and they are both reasonably computer savvy for their ages, but the games are way too hard for them. The really cannot earn credits except for NPC and music games. While these are not inconsequential, these credits alone are not enough to buy the weekly items (really). So, clearly VMK is not just for younger players. Much of the play on VMK is for a more sophisticated audience.
But of course, as a multiage FREE game, its not too shabby!
I also think the recent emphasis on safety is because school-age kids are out for the Summer and more may be playing more. So, the average age on VMK may have dropped in the Summer, hence more safety concerns.
SlimShady 07-16-2007, 10:51 PM there is no doubt about it they are aiming toward younger players. The rules alone could show u that cuz they are so strict and to me it is just stupid to have that many rules in a game. They are definetly aiming toward a younger crowd, and that is what disney usually does.
lemonysnicket3 07-16-2007, 11:09 PM Well first of all a handfull of players have been targets to kill in VMK, therefore enforcing these rules will stop the death toll of VMK, if there ever is one.
VMK is not aiming twoards younger children. Pirates is annoying, the game is too stressful, it has too much of a learning difficulty, it is not G rated in ways. Taken, bay be, and your personality being baised on rare.
futureimagineer1117 07-16-2007, 11:17 PM I think that some parts of VMK are aimed towards younger children, but the youngest, 6 or 7. I think that other parts, however, are not over their heads, just more complicated.

Totally agree with all of this. I must say, though, that I'm glad this isn't the first month I first discovered VMK - it's been a boring month and if I was new to the game and hadn't made many friends yet I don't know if it would have kept my interest enough to keep playing.
What's odd to me is that this month the quests and host events are focusing on safety and everything yet there's no host pin and the prizes from the quests are boring buyables. You'd think they'd have better prizes to make people want to do the quests more and therefore get more people to learn about safety.
Grooveygrl 07-16-2007, 11:33 PM I'm not sure on this one but I voted " I could see it happening in the future. "
plecoguy 07-18-2007, 12:39 AM Note to all complaining about games:
Let's say vmk is a moldy sandwich. Instead of trying to throw it away, they round off the corners and call it edible I.E.: They do things on and off. Maybe you're trying to make it more appealingly easy, and you forget about those things.
Of course, maybe if they lower the games then they are. Down with vmk!
GryfindorGal 07-18-2007, 02:05 AM Maybe. I think they want EVERYONE on it tho. As in young and old.

What a disgusting analogy!

I don't see how comparing VMK with rotten bread is going to help the situation...
