View Full Version : Very frustrated by bug reporting

I'm getting really fed up with trying to report bugs. It is almost as annoying as the bugs themselves. Almost.

I used to use the contact us link, selecting the option I want to comment on the Game Beta. None of my messages were ever answered. I am convinced that they throw out any message sent through this.

Following the suggestion of some people on here, I used the help button and asked for a cast member. I got back the message to use contact us. Great.

Now that we're public, it doesn't seem appropriate to use the I want to comment on the Game Beta option, and there is no I want to report a bug or similar option, so I went with None of the above. After making sure that my question really didn't fit anywhere else, it let me enter it. When I hit Next, however, it gave me an error about not finding any matches in the FAQ. Trying to change the subject caused an error.

I know that bugs happen. I want to help them by providing as much details as I can so they can fix them. But how do I report a bug in the bug reporting system?

Happened to me one time when I couldn't place something in my room. They told me to use the stupid contact us section. Which in itself is a big laugh, because the "Call for help" function is suposed to be used for HELP, not a re-direction service to the contact us section, which has completely irrelavent topics.

Yes, it's unfortunate. I have submitted several types of feedback (gameplay, bugs, dictionary, etc.) over the past month myself, but I have never received even a confirmation. I can't prove that they aren't reading my suggestions, but to give one example, the fact that they haven't added "tonight" to the dictionary is beyond me. Some of us who have logged way too many hours over the past month probably have a better feel for the gameplay balance and possible improvements than even some of the developers. I have to believe they do really want our feedback, but it's unfortunate that the mechanism they have for collecting feedback is so poor. Seems to me like the main website is probably run by a different development team...the game developer's credits page is laughably short!

You may want to check with Alexander to see what his secret is. He would probably be the first to tell you that they never listen to him, but then he would have to admit that he has finally gotten some personal responses (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=948) from them as well. I don't know if this is a "squeaky wheel getting the grease" situation or not, but he appears to finally have their ear (which BTW is a good thing since he has some fabulous suggestions!).

So, in the middle of hearing nothing from any of my submissions from the web page, stumble across VMK_Red on her morning rounds, and ask what the best way to file bug reports are. Through the web page. I comment that I never hear anything when I do. She encourages me to try again every couple of days, but to remember that sometimes they don't respond. Sometimes?

Later, XtremeDude and I are trying to debug the latest problem we've encountered - he was blind to the lights on the console scoreboard. I summon help, just to get someone in to prove we aren't going nuts. The reply:

-whimper-

Alexander - how did you do it?

Oh, and the kicker is that after doing a bunch of things - he could suddenly see! So is the problem fixed? Is the glitch still there? Who knows? (I certainly don't - I don't even know if they know there is/was a glitch!)
