Hi!
I just saw a post in a thread that brought the question to my head " how long do you think VMK will be around for ?"

Sure VMK is a fun game online and stuff but i doubt it will get to 3 years. If people are saying VMK has lost its magic, then in two years there wont be any magic left.

Um, new people join VMK all the time... the "magic" is still new to them...

I think it could get to 3 years, in my opinion. Maybe more. But I think that if it went on for a while eventually Disney would start losing money, and charge people to play.

I agree with you. I do believe vmk will eventually start charging people to play. However if they do do that, they should charge new, incoming players. Instead of us, already existing players. Then this would bring us to another question. Is vmk worth our money??

vmk has addressed the whole bay be issue and dictionary dancing. Hopefully, more staff will crack down on these cases. I do agree that there should be more staff, and that there should be undercover staff. But then again, that would possibly require hiring more people. Which would again take us back to the fact: would vmk last? and would it cost money eventually?

VMK will last as long as Dinsey thinks it's making money off of it (ie: getting people into parks, buying pins for vmk codes, etc).

As soon as Disney thinks they're no longer making any profit (after expenses), then VMK will shut down.

VMK Staff are normal players but they get paid for helping the game, hosting game, spending hours on the game. Disney made VMK Quest so new players join and it enthuesizes(sp?) players to go to parks and that is how they get their money.

VMK Staff are not normal players. They are Adults that are employed with Disney and some on the VMK team are said to be from Sulake. It's there job to make sure VMK is safe and provides a fun enviroment for everyone. They also get paid for doing this as it's their job, so I wouldnt consider them: "Normal players that help"..

Normal Players that are here to help are Community Leaders- Although anyone can help, so the CL program defeats its own purpose :)

I am talking about VMK in-game Staff ;) Sure the workers at VMK Central most likely work at other places and get transferred, but thats not what I was talking about. T

o me VMK Staff are the people that work in the game- VMK Central Cast Members work at VMK Central in WDW :) Maybe some work both, but I doubt it, but I just wanted to clear that up that to me they are different :)

I would look at the types of games Disney is working on now... For instance POTCO and they are now allowing players to create free accounts on TTO. They also have a new game experience geared towards to younger crowds (looks like maybe 6-8 range). The free games do generate revenue, just not in the traditional ways. I am not sure that pay for play will come to VMK, but if it does so what? I would be happy to pay for the experience.

Definately, Staff and Hosts are paid employees. Community Leaders are regular players.
Since VMK is a running commercial for Disney Parks and films it will probably remain open, although the players may change with time. Long time players have seen it all, and can become bored with the game.
The cost of running VMK is relatively low considering it is an ongoing advertisment for the Disney brand. It can stay open for free as long as the Disney vacation and film sites remain open.
Nothing is forever. Something new always comes along. :)

I think that VMK might possibly last for another year. They've been closing down the quests at the parks, and they even said themselves that the quests weren't even going to last that long. So they must have thought VMK wouldn't last that long. That's just what I think.

It could be today or it could be 20 years from now. With Disney, there is no telling. Look at how suddenly we got the news about DLR's VMk central getting closed?
But, how does VMK make money from this?? Sure people go to the park and do quests but people dont just go to WDW just for quests, they go for fun and other stuff too.
Yes they do. There are annual pass holders that while they can go whenever they can and it doesn't cost them to get into the park, they still have to pay for parking. They still have to pay for anything they have to buy in the park. And many of them have increased the amount of times they go just to get quest items. I also know of people that have gotten annual passes just because they started playing VMK. Others have planned more trips than they originally planned just to get quest items.

There are also the items that you have to buy something to get a card. Such as the magic mirror, red penny press and wanted poster.
There was also the real pins released in December that has VMK codes in them. Those have been so popular that they have been back logged on orders for them. Just because of VMK players wanting those codes.

Also, how many people bought the Herbie dvd just to get the code? I would have normally bought a used version since I would have bought it anyways. But, because I wanted the code, I went and bought a brand new copy.

Trust me, VMK has been a profit to Disney.

who would pay to play vmk? Honestly, its a okay game, but a game like vmk is not going to make any money. The graphics aren't good, the game play is pointless really, basicly vmk is a chatroom you can walk around in with a bad dictionary. VMK will shut down if they start charging people. Thats just a fact.

Its not just the graphics, its the game play. Look at toontown, you can fight things, which is what most mmorpgs are about and that is what attracts people. Also, nobody wants to pay to play a game that you cant even say sleepy in. Believe me i would know, ive played many mmorpgs in my time.

I agree with you. I think that VMK would last maybe well over 3 years but I dunno, I think that if they do charge people to play VMK that alot of the players that just cause problems wont pay so we wouldent have anymore "bad" people in VMK anymore and that would be a plus. I estimate in atleast 4 years vmk maybe go into the 3D world but I kinda doubt it.

But who said yavn needed to run vmk? He could give it up in a few years to someone else. then he would give it to someone else and so on. VMK will not die just because certain people we think needed to make the game good are gone. No, truth is vmk will last so long you will all be surprised when you look back in 10 years and see the whole new vmk.

Sometimes it's not about profit, but for the love. You do it because you do it and the satisfaction you receive is worth more than any monetary figure.

If the magic is still there, and it will be -- it always is -- Virtual Magic Kingdom will be around for years to come.

For some, including myself, there are some who have not visited Disneyland or Disneyworld yet (there are a few) since VMK opened online. I am finally getting my chance to vacation at WDW in October after a 14 year absence and I am looking forward to taking advantage of the in-park VMK quests and cards and exclusives.

Whenever Disney corporate feels that VMK is not longer a useful tool or promotion for the overall Disney product, then we might see VMK closed.

I have a feeling though that VMK will be used as an online promotional tool for years to come as the Internet advances along, bridging the gap for those guests that visited the parks in the past, who are planning trips in the future, or who are visiting the parks now.

I play it for this very sole reason -- VMK, though virtual, gives me the satisfaction and that magical feeling inside that I am visiting an actual Disney park. I am just amazed at how the VMK staff can create such life-like, yet, virtual world of Disney.

I forsee that VMK will not just be focused on WDW and Disneyland in America, oh no. There are three other Disney-themed sites in Paris, Japan and Hong Kong, and I, for one, would love to see Disney intertwine some of the attactions, or just the little things, that connect the online guest with all the parks.

Just my 2-cents. Oh, and by the way, I am finally visiting WDW in October, in less than four months. I will finally get to share in what all of my other VMK friends have been able to do -- visit a real Disney park, share in the magic of it all, and take advantage of the in-park quests.

I wouldn't mind paying for the game. I've said it before. If it meant that the service of VMK would work better as well as weeding out those annoying people who just make the game unfun to play, then I'm all for it. I also play the game for the game itself. I don't buy tons of items to be greedy and make it harder for others to attain them. I just like having one of everything so I can enjoy it. So, I hope it is around for a while and that if I have to pay it does what I just said. I don't have high hopes for a distant future of the game based on the nature of how Disney works but for now, I'll keep on playing

That's what I think sets VMK apart from any other online multiplayer games. I also like how many options we have of costomizing our characters, and the graphics are great, in my opinion. Plus, it's Disney. I love Disney :)

I have to say that VMK was definately a lot more "magical" back when it first started. I don't feel as though I'm actually in one of the parks anymore, like I used to.

quite frankly i think disney is too much of a children's-wants runned company to shut it down with over 10000 ppl logging in daily, ( about 5000 on at a time ) i hink once it starts to break down into the 1000 ppl playing frequently they may shut down, I think ill give it.. 8 more years, 10 tops. then they will simply upgrade :) to a new virtual world

Yea i agree i think VMK will last until 2457 thats the year!!
They'll have a lot of new stuff by then!!! But 10 years tops is not positive. i say give it until everyone quits execpt 100 peeps. maybe then they will think not do it but think about closing vmk but closing it in ten years thats just wrong!! If they do shut it down.. I have the VMK mailman in my e-mail address book!! I'd stop it from shutting down if they do they might turn in into VK Virtual Kingdom No Magic Pins or the word magic :((

VMK has a big chance of staying around. I don't know if I'd be able to predict how long VMK will stay open, but my guess is over 2 years from now. I saw a couple posts on paying for VMK... I don't know, VMK sounds sure of themselves to be a free game. But I probably would pay.

I asked this question a while ago.

I think I remember them saying that VMKF will still be here.

My guess is that it will, and that it will mostly be for posting stuff about VMK back when it was open, since we can obviously no longer write about bugs, suggestions, and quests ;)

Meh you can't really judge about this since the only MMO that's ever been shut down was EverQuest, and that was only since they upgraded to EverQuest II. You guys have got to realize that the internet isn't really all that old, it was invented in 1981 and MMOs weren't picked up on until the 90s that makes the oldest MMO around maybe 17, and since VMK isn't an MMO of the traditional fashion it could very well never die. (to help answer questions about cash I made this educational program/q&a session)

It also generates a thorough flow of cash by encouraging people to play.

How?

Simple, ever heard of Club Live? No, that's okay basically it's MSN's way of making their search browser more popular.

(MSN has a browser???) but if they don't make money then what's the point?

Yet they do make money by choosing to ADVERTISE

ADVERTISE???

Oh boy... Okay been to a place called VMK Fansite?

Yes.

Well they have advertisements on every page, which the company that made those advertisements pay them to put up.

OH KEWL!!!

What about Earth and Beyond? Motorcity Online? Every heard of Myst Live?

But that's beside the point; as Jackthorn said, VMK is a far cry from those games. I've said it before and I'm sure I'll have occasion to say it again: Immerse Environments are hot right now. Loads of companies, especially those whose target audience is younger, are creating games like VMK. Well, I use the word 'like' very loosely; none of them come close to touching what Disney has done. VMK is by far the best of the current crop of branded online environments, and Disney knows it. Why would they throw away something like that, and leave the market open for their competitors' far weaker products?

GeminiVMK
07-22-2007, 01:54 PM
Back to before...

If VMK would soon want you to pay, there would be a couple things they would have to do.

They would have to fix all the bugs and stuff. And it would only be a couple dollar charge. If it would be over 5 bucks a month, I'll find another MMO.

WDW and DLR are not going anywhere, why would VMK. I think it will be around for many years to come, sure at one point VMK may have lost some of it's magic but it seems like every day 5000-6000 people are logged on around peak hours and earlier in the day than ever before, a year ago the average was more around 3000 and mainly around new quest or host events. I think the staff has been working very hard and that they have done a great job making VMK better. There is only so much they can do, the additions of New Orleans Square and Fantasyland Courtyard, Pirate Treasure Room, new costumes like pirate were all great ideas and I think make the game more enjoyable, in the future we can hope for more games, new magic, new costumes, new NPC's who knows but I think VMK is here to stay.

MyBirdHat
07-27-2007, 12:12 AM
it doesn't really make much sense why CLs can only be ppl who have NEVER been banned. bc sometimes if one person in a room shares info or something, the whole room has to pay for it by getting banned along with the person. so i think anybody should be a CL if they've been on vmk for more than four months.

Hi!
I just saw a post in a thread that brought the question to my head " how long do you think VMK will be around for ?"

Sure VMK is a fun game online and stuff but i doubt it will get to 3 years. If people are saying VMK has lost its magic, then in two years there wont be any magic left.

HOw Long Do YOu Think VMK Will Be Around FOr?
VMK is already almost the their 3rd year and it will keep going

VMK will last as long as Dinsey thinks it's making money off of it (ie: getting people into parks, buying pins for vmk codes, etc).

As soon as Disney thinks they're no longer making any profit (after expenses), then VMK will shut down.

vmk is now no longer in parks, so they don't make as much money. they won't just shut down once they don't mkae enough money. they'll only shut down when the interest dies down almost completely and it's not worth having for a few ppl. it will be a sad day when vmk shuts down, but that probably won't be for a loooong time

Crazy.Maddie

It's the players, your own fault, imo vmk is getting even better than it was a year ago. Sure the spinning is annoying but we'll get used to it. I say for about 5 more years it'll be open. Its been open for about three years.

I say 3 years top, sadly. It's starting to go down hill a little in my opinion, the items, in my opinion are looking worse that they use to, and some changes don't make too much sense, like the new way of buying stuff, it's more complicated than the original.

I reckon about 2-4 years before all the people who aren't spamming, rude noobs will be gone. Around the same time, the staff will slowly become too "busy" to help with the game, and slowly but surely the game will burn down to having no updates, then finally the server will break up.

I think VMK will definitely start charging people to play. Disney owns Club Penguin now, which when free, only has limited access. Either they'll start paying to play at all, or they'll set something up like what Club Penguin has, where you have to pay to have all features available to you.

I really love this game, so I want it to be around for a long time. What I think they should do is not give a monthly fee if they make you pay to play, but a certain amount of money per account or character. SO it's just one payment. How much will it cost? I dunno. Hopefully not more than 50 bucks.

EDIT:
They need to do something new about VMK in the parks. To keep more people coming in VMK to keep it alive. Plus if they do make players pay one fee, or monthly, they stay profitable, maybe more, I dunno, so VMK will have an extra large boost in it's life span. But if VMK is gone, I have one other MMO I really trust and love.

It will make it as far as Disney can pay for it.
Guest's come every day, and quit because they had no fun and everyone was mean to them. People quit for ToonTown and POTC Online, RuneScape, or because they dont want to play any games on the computer. Which Disney likes when they play games like ToonTown, like when I quit and played ToonTown for like 2 months, see that gives Disney 20$ and I still came back to play VMK and will play POTC Online for about a year. But VMK, Disney doesn't care too much about, it brings no income to Disney. So why should they care?
Acesilverace, Disney Theme Parks wont shut down. Disney has made billions of dollars, and yes I mean billions with 10 zeros. They wont shut down, why would they?

vmk from what i have seen so far is strictly promotions for the Walt Disney parks and serve only to promote attractions and other events of the month. Just like the recent Haunted Mansion Conservatory guest room. It has been made over with christmas lights and presents as well as a Happy Holidays wreath lol (set up as a funeral wreath nonetheless). And what happens to be going on at Walt Disney park in Anaheim no less than the chefs going hog wild with a gingerbread box and Jack popping out of it not to mention hidden mickey on the box. The Conservatory room was strictly made to promote their recent attraction at Walt Disney park. So, vmk will last as long as it promotes everything Disney. I see it this way, as long as WDW is around I think vmk will be around. Walt Disney parks make quite a bit of money and this possibly adds quite a bit to the bank fold at WDW. Even without charging they still make away with lots of money so I say vmk will be around until the end of WDW parks. Either way vmk is property of WDW and they shall do with it as they wish regardless of what we think. Although, I myself hope it goes on for quite a long time. some may think the magic is gone, but that is the way Disney has been since the industry opened in the 50s. Is the best still yet to come? That is what Disney wants you to ponder. Happy Holidays to all. :)

Two years at the most is my guess. But I don't even want to think about leaving you guys!

it's really impossible to tell. I dont see how their funding could go down since it's Disney, and well they're rich..

It may close within 5 years, but I doubt it.

If VMK is making a profit, then it'll be open. Currently, it's profit rest on movie rewards ($20 per 100 points is about $120 for inferno), since they closed the Disney parks' promotional cards.

They are bringing in quite some money with the Pirate Pin Box Sets also ;)

I'm not really sure. But time will go quicker if you're not counting down. I'm just gonna have fun. I want the forum to stay up even when VMK closes because then we could all still stay in contact.

I think vmk will be around, for 10 years but im sure they will charge you after three years bc it takes alot of money to make a website and to pay vmk staff..

Neopets has over 50 trillion players. You really except them to shut down?

and vmk has over 10,000 players i think vmk may shut down in about when yavn leaves or disney is retired

Disney? Retire? Those 2 words will never be put into the same sentence.

Um, new people join VMK all the time... the "magic" is still new to them...

I think it could get to 3 years, in my opinion. Maybe more. But I think that if it went on for a while eventually Disney would start losing money, and charge people to play.

i joined not to long ago but i hope it's around for a long time

Since obviously everyone is going to quit because they don't release something new every week...

Something is going to come out. It doesn't necessarily have to be today.

The one thing that always get me is, if their version of a permanent ban is 10 years, then does that mean it wil be gone by then?

I'm sure this has been posted, but this always ruins any of my guesses.

I predict around 2011-2012. I'm guessing on the last few days or so all bans will stop so the players could all say goodbye. I hope it lasts long :(

I agree with you. I do believe vmk will eventually start charging people to play. However if they do do that, they should charge new, incoming players. Instead of us, already existing players. Then this would bring us to another question. Is vmk worth our money??

~Rabbit:pinkbun:

ok well i think they should charge all the players unless the player have beta testing here from day 1 status like me and some other people because basically we are the pioneers and founders of vmk i showed the game to atleast 30 new people and they showed it to their friends and families and it will keep on going on like that spreading like a virus so i give it 4 years till its down or charging for the record the new thing where they put new magic in every week is really dumb if you think about it everything wont be rare anymore inferno is NO GOOD ANYMORE the have it on disney movie rewards

3 to 4. If they were going to shut it down anyways, why did they start it?
New players still think VMK has magic since it is still very new to them.

Or maybe we should ONLY charge the Day 1 people, they have been here longer than anyone else - maybe they should be charged before everyone else

I personally think everyone should be charged together or not at all. VMK would get more people to pay like this, and it could be cheaper to everyone. Instead of $10 a month per person of a select group, why not $1 a month for everyone? Seems a bit more fair to me, and could possibly be more in VMK's interests. I would certainly play for $1 a month, but I'm sort of leaning to saying I wouldn't for $10.

then if VMK becomes a pay to play online game then most people outside the US cant play like me maybe because they cant find US Dollars here or have no way to pay it too VMK OR... it may take more money to ship money?? LOL idk

It would probably be via credit card in an online transaction. That wouldn't require mailing or postage.
