Under utilities, you have a program called grab, not a simple keyboard command like windows 0_o

Actually there is a keyboard command ;)
Alt/Option+Shift+3 is the whole screen
Alt/Option+Shift+4 makes a cross-hair appear and you select the area of the screen

After you take the screenshot, it shows up on your desktop as Picture 1 (or 2, 3 etc.. depends on how many you have already there)

I wish I had photoshop on my Mac, I have it only on my slow PC.. it's such a burden to use...

I think you are mistakened between the Alt and Command key.

If you press the Control ("ctrl") key along with any of those keyboard methods mentioned above(except with http://img516.**************/img516/5581/blackapplepg4.gif key) it is copied into your clipboard instead of making a picture file.

If you also click Command(http://img516.**************/img516/5581/blackapplepg4.gif Key)+Shift+4+SpaceBar you can take a picture of an entire window. (You can push Space Bar after you have let go of the other keys)
