smrtfriendship 06-22-2007, 07:16 PM If you want something simple, there are some laptops such as Compaq brands, that sell for 500-800 dollars. They may not be the fastest ones out there, but at least you can do the basic stuff such as school work and internet. If you're not much of a computer gamin' person and you're using it only for internet and schoolwork, then go for that.
If you want fast computers, they range from 900 dollars and up. It's expensive, but they are pretty fast.
Rainy_days 06-22-2007, 07:19 PM Is there any reason why you want a laptop? If your trying to save money, desktops are generally cheaper.
Zebraa 06-22-2007, 08:45 PM If I were on a tight budget [and I didn't want a Mac XD] I would get a desktop, not a laptop. The average price of a laptop is $1000, and you get get a desktop for under $500. Also, I would recommend HP (but most are [slightly] over $500).
PaperClip 06-22-2007, 09:01 PM I would go with HP or Compaq. Dells aren't made very well. You can break a Dell almost instantly (if you try hard enough).
TravisSch 06-22-2007, 09:09 PM I think Dell has Dimension desktops starting around $300-$400. Of course, the cheap computers usually has slow processors (like Intel Celeron, AMD Sempron). If you want a faster processor, I would go with an Intel Pentium or Core, or AMD Turion. :)
Dudejoejoe 06-23-2007, 12:06 AM Compaq! I'm on mine now, cheap, and gets the job done!
PrincessKala 06-23-2007, 06:06 AM My Laptop is a Compaq. It's pretty good. It's not like slow or anything. It barely freezes up if it does. Don't know how expensive it is, I got it for Christmas! I'm currently on it. It's very good too.

AvastKrazy 06-23-2007, 01:42 PM ok i need a laptop/desktop that
1.Doesn't freeze up when im watching a video and playing VMK at the same time.
2.Can hold alot of stuff.
3.Is pretty fast.
I need to by a laptop/desktop soon after my bother leaves to collage
falloutswimmr 06-23-2007, 02:14 PM Ok so my opinion is wait until the start of school!
Deals always always come out at their best right before everyone is about to be sent off to college! so wait until then to find the best deal possible.. you will save a lot of money and may even recieve an upgrade or package!
Next, consider a Dell
We have had two dell laptops 1 in the past and 1 currently... the only reason we got another one was because the old one was 4 or 5 years old and we needed a new model!
Dells rarely freeze up on me.. only if im watching a show on disney channel, playing vmk, watching movie trailers, and listening to iTunes at the same time.. it will sometimes lag.. lol but hey go figure..
Dells are able to hold a ton of memory, and you can get anywhere from very small to larger sizes/screens.
Dells are also durable and hold up for quite a while (you can brake any laptop if you try hard enough so don''t worry about those comments lol)..
I thought i would share this review with you.. It is on the Inspiron 1501.. an affordablea laptop for home and media..

Title: I am extremely happy with this laptop Date: May 16, 2007
Pros
The screen is so clear and bright..makes movie watching a joy. Up and running out of the box. It even logged onto my wireless network effortlessly. Had no problems conecting to my networked printer. The location of all the ports are very workable. Not one awkward location. Everything flows very smoothly. The extra memory is a plus. I wasn't sure about Vista but I am getting used to it and it does have some very nice features that I find to be a plus. Once you learn all the tricks to using the touch pad it is quite easy. I found the battery life to be very efficient. This laptop is light weight which makes it easy to carry around. This is a great buy. I love it!!
Cons
The sound could be a little louder. To watch a movie the volume needs to be turned all the way up. I would suggest speakers for movie watching or gaming.
hope i helped
but hey your decision in the end :)
best wishes on your search for a new electronic friend

EW! Dell -_- I would advise you not to look at Dell. Here are a few other choices :P
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Usage&v1=Everyday+computing&series_name=C500T_series - I would get the Power Pack added
If you are looking for Windows XP instead of Vista, here's one. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Usage&v1=Everyday+computing&series_name=V6000TX_series
If you still aren't wanting an HP/Compaq, here's an alternative: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?seg=HHO&poid=371266
AvastKrazy 06-23-2007, 03:26 PM i am looking for a vista one
if u want my budget its between $300-$600 and a Desktop/Laptop or Tablet also my mom has an Acer and its horrible slow
Mizz.V 06-23-2007, 03:30 PM You do know that you need to PAY for internet?
VMKJen 06-23-2007, 03:31 PM HP's are the best laptops. I have 1. It works really well on vmk.
oatman 06-26-2007, 03:50 AM What exactly is your price range.... lol Your depands are pretty high. Just the fact that it is a laptop will boost the price 300 dollars. What you need is at least an intel centrino processor of 1.7 GHz. Also, i recommend at least 512MB of RAM. Computers like this can cost about 500-600. Although, if you want vista basic then that will raise the price to around 700. If you want one that can require your graphic demands for Windows Aero then you will have to pay 800-900 dollars. I would highly recommand a desktop cause you can save more. HP is probaly the best brand to get as well.
