I'm looking at getting a new laptop this month probably, and i was wondering what laptops you have (if you use one). I'm looking at the Dell Inspiron E1705. It have a 17.1 inch wide glossy screen. My friend has this laptop and i was wondering if any of you have it like it or have a different laptop that you use and recommend.

Dell? Blek. Try HP. Prices are better and they are a lot more reliable.

I don't know about HP. We have a dell desktop computer and it works great. I just looked at the HP computers and the end prices after you get all the features like Virus blockers and such its about the same price and the Dell Inspiron. But thats why i'm getting peoples opinions because i never thought about looking at HP because i forgot about them i've only looked at Dell. I'm just trying to get the best laptop at the best prices because i'm mostly going to use it for school and i'm going to get wireless internet. Gee with the new laptop with internet and the tv for DVDs i'm looking at i'll never need to leave my room to share the computer lol..j/k.

I have a Toshiba 1.73GHZ dual and I absolutely love it. I did a lot of research before telling hubby which one I wanted and I read a lot of bad things about HP laptops....IE...the fans are very noisy when running and that the laptop (which should be able to sit on your lap) gets way too hot to be able to do that. My computer has done beautifully with vmk and many other programs that I use. I would highly recommend it. It wasnt terribly expensive around a grand and no upgrade was needed for anything. Hope this helps.

Its the Toshiba Satellite A205-S4577.

Vista is wonderful.....it takes a bit to get used to but...after a bit its really a great system.

I used to have a Dell Inspiron (different version though). I liked it a lot, very good laptop. Right now I have a HP and to me they are the same, though this one has Vista (bleck).

If you're going for a PC (go mac!) I wouldn't recommend a Dell. They break easily and the exterior materials aren't so good "/ My family used to have a Dell (1 or 2, I forgot) and it broke (the outside). I would recommend HP.

I have had lots of bad experiences with Dell. Their customer support representatives aren't that "nice", rebates are hard to get them to send back, products don't last all THAT long and so on. I have had five Dells in the past. All but one crashed out that same year. -_- Three out of the five were laptops. The vast majority of the rest of my computers are HP/Compaq. I have NEVER had any problems with them. If you ask me, Gateway is way better than Dell. I have had way better luck with some of their products. But, HP still beats the heck out of any other brand, if you ask me.

HP and Dell both have about the same prices, BUT HP has a better history. Currently, I am using a BASIC computer from HP, and I have customized it to 1.8GHz Sempron, 40GB hard drive, 1GB of ram, 14.1 screen, CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive and so on. I paid $200 for the base (1.8ghz, 40gb, 256mb RAM, 14.1 inch screen and CD-RW/DVD-ROM), and now it is worth about $250-300. This has been the best computer I have ever owned. The fastest, and most reliable.

Try Bestbuy.com or ask a geek squad guy. Personally, I own two HPs, a Fujijitsu and a Compaq. At the store, we demoed an HP and a Dell. HP beat the poo out of dell. Trust me, Dell can't make computers for their lives. On the other hand, they make pretty great computer acceosseries like mouses, keyboards, and printers.

For me, it's either a Dell or a Mac. Never had a problem with my old Dell - just be careful. People say they break easy, they don't. I've never had to have my Dell fixed.

Mac: Just got a MacBook, love the thing to death. Has a lot of nice programs, and runs really fast.

I have a Dell, HP, Toshiba, MacBook.

My Dell desktop drives me crazy, but not because of any hardware issues, just windows is always crashing! The computer itself it great and I think their notebooks are similar. Customer care wasn't pleasant when I called but I managed to get everything sorted out even though.

The HP desktop is about 6 years old and still running great (besides the normal slow down of age). It had stopped working 3 times, but I just messed around with the insides (taking RAM/Hard Drive in and out) and then it worked. Never dealt with customer care.

Toshiba laptop isn't anything special. I like the included software (but too much of it!). I got it for $250, so I can't really complain.

MacBook is new (actually got it today :)) so I won't give my opinion on it until I fully use it.

I have a Compaq Presario V6000Z customizable Notebook PC and I'm very happy with it! It's durable and easy to use.Not to mention internet and games work 10 times better! I also have a dell.It worked very well when it was new, but as it got just a little older it slowed down badly.Things didn't work right and it would sometimes just crash.

I would not reccomend going to Best Buy. Everyone says that the Geek Squad is a nice service. Nope. It is just like my post about Dell. I have had bad experiences with them. I would reccomend FireDog from Circuit City.

Good laptops= Dell, Lenovo ^^, IBM, and Toshiba

^^= I use it
For windows laptop makers i hate: HP, Compaq, ACER IS HORRIBLE!, and that is all I can think of atm...

Do not get a mac
HP imo is a wanna-be computer maker, I have a dell desktop and it is GREAT! Also a Lenovo laptop, running Vista, which ROCKS!
HPs are not that fast, and my friend had a Compaq that crashed 24/7 Acer... don't get me started

As far as tablets go, Fujitsu is good

Acer's are Dell ;) As far as the Dell line goes, it is Dell, Alienware, Acer and one other, that I can't think of off the top of my head.

HPs and Compaqs are the same. Fujutsu is a subdivision of HP. It isn't just HPs that slow down. In fact, it has nothing to do with the brand name. What does matter is the amount of RAM, and the Processor speed. (1.4GHz Celeron and 256MB RAM is gonna slow down quick. 1.4 GHz Celeron and 1GB of RAM isn't gonna slow down as quick. (I just made those stats up)). It just matters what hardware you get in it.

Thanks for pointing that out... I have seen problems on the Acer line as my friends had a bad crash... but never any with a dell, oh and now I remember the absolute worst: Gateway
