View Full Version : Words We Need: A Dictionary Booster
GraspingClaw 06-10-2007, 02:49 PM For anyone who has been paying the slightest bit of attention to this thread, you should have come to the exciting realization that every single word that was added to the VMK dictionary on July 26th, 2007 was from this very post! Yavn was kind enough to listen to me, and all of the users who suggested words on this thread, and used our wish list as a springboard to a more complete vocabulary.
In other words, don't give up now! We've made an excellent first step, but I know there are still a lot of words out there that need to be added. If you have a good suggestion for the Dictionary, whether it's an entirely new word or just the plural or past tense of words we do have (such as "Candles" or "Sank"), please post it here and I will continue to edit and update the list of "Words We Need". Now that we know someone's paying attention, we can only hope that future additions will come straight from this thread again.. ;)
To date, here are the words we have successfully added to the VMK dictionary:

The reason I listed the words above as words "we" added is because I have first-hand knowledge that our original list was reviewed by a staff member on VMK and used as the sole inspiration for the big addition we got on July 26, 2007. Unless I experience the same thing again, I can't really take credit for the words that get added, regardless of whether they happened to be on our wish list.
Below is a list of words that used to be on our list and have since been added to the VMK dictionary, although quite possibly through other means:
assistant, audition, auditioning, bowl, brer, cheetah, ditto, flawless, flawlessly, fourth, frown, frowning, gasp, gasping, menu, penguin, poet, poetry, poets, twilight, wand, won, zone,

GraspingClaw 06-13-2007, 07:11 AM My Word: shan't
Oh, very nice!
As in, "I shan't.. tell my aunt.. about the ants.. shall I?"
Can anyone name that movie?
abbycatkid 06-13-2007, 12:28 PM I can!! It's from the old Parent Trap, GraspingClaw! lol
sunnyskye 06-13-2007, 02:04 PM You can say proof. I saw two people fighting about a week ago and one boy said something like "You don't have any proof"
wombat 06-13-2007, 02:53 PM Here's a word that you can't say "Turret". I submitted it to VMK when the turret chairs came out and the walls with turrets were released. How can you have a piece of furniture that you can not say the name???? Just my two cents.
Wombat
soccerkidtlk 06-13-2007, 03:01 PM well they took beach and beaches for a reason so i dont think they will bring those to back. But yes they do need some new words.
alubadubdub 06-13-2007, 03:04 PM I find myself always wanting to say "Yum" and "Yummy" for some reason. I wish they could add that to the dictionary.
GraspingClaw 06-13-2007, 05:54 PM I can!! It's from the old Parent Trap, GraspingClaw! lol
Ding ding! Gold star coming your way. :D
You can say proof. I saw two people fighting about a week ago and one boy said something like "You don't have any proof"
Ah, right you are. Not sure how I missed those, but they do have all versions of that word. Words have been updated.
snowegoof 06-13-2007, 06:02 PM Man. i am tired of saying boy when i really mean man.
ppockets 06-13-2007, 06:03 PM Nice suggestions.. although words slike ain't shuoldn't be added as they are encouraging improper engish. Beach- NEVER will be added back, unless vmk decides to start banning the people who misuse the words rather then removing the words. It was used in replacement of a cuss word, and many people would use it excessively.
Mike1087 06-13-2007, 06:13 PM You don't have to add these, but I've always wanted to say numbers. How many games do you know of (that you can chat in) where you can't say numbers? I'm sure it's all for safety, but if someone really wanted to say their phone number, they could using "on, too, tree". I think the filter system needs some work, even if it is for our safety. I forget who said it, but I agree with whoever said punish the bad, not the good. :twocents:
alubadubdub 06-13-2007, 07:10 PM Also you can say "Ya'll" in the game which has the same meaning as "Y'all"
abbycatkid 06-13-2007, 08:36 PM Ding ding! Gold star coming your way. :D
I wish.. LOL :D

GraspingClaw 06-14-2007, 05:01 AM Nice suggestions.. although words slike ain't shuoldn't be added as they are encouraging improper engish.
VMK's job certainly isn't to enforce "proper" English, whatever that is, because language is alive and constantly being changed and amended. Don't get me wrong, I can be a huge stickler for grammar (people using "your" when it should be "you're" annoys me to no end) but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a little slang. It's completely appropriate to use it in a relaxed conversation or as a joke..as long as you realize there is a "proper" version to be used as well. I firmly stand behind the addition of "ain't".
Beach- NEVER will be added back, unless vmk decides to start banning the people who misuse the words rather then removing the words. It was used in replacement of a cuss word, and many people would use it excessively.
Let me state, again, that I realize some of these words have been removed for being misused by certain people. If you'll read my original introduction to this thread, you'll see that I'm not confused as to why they were taken away. However, I do not believe it is the correct way to deal with people who abuse these normally harmless words, as the masses shouldn't be punished for the transgressions of a few offenders.
To everyone who views these posts, PLEASE - let's not make this a thread about why certain words were taken out. I'm just listing words I think should be added or re-added and VMK can obviously do whatever it likes.

I hear you, Mike. Numbers would be very convenient to use and I wish we lived in a world where there was a little more trust given and a little more personal responsibility taken. However, I can't realistically ever see VMK adding digits, because they are just too worried about how easy it would be to swap potentially dangerous info. As you pointed out, there are very common "dances" for all these numbers, and ones that the staff themselves have been known to use, but if they keep the numbers blocked they can at least say they tried to prevent the exchange of personal information, and I don't believe this stance will ever change. Sorry.
Also you can say "Ya'll" in the game which has the same meaning as "Y'all"
Yup, you're right, we can say "Ya'll", but that really isn't the accurate way of spelling it because the apostrophe should replace the missing letters of the first word; in this case being "ou" of the word "you". The way VMK spelled it is wrong because there's nothing to substitue the apostrophe for in between "a" and "ll" of the word "all". Does that make sense? Told ya I could be a stickler..
Lightning
Excellent suggestion. Zeus would be proud. Words have been updated.

Please read the posts in the thread before posting! And again, NO MORE TALK about why certain words were removed. I think we're all very familiar with the reasons, we just don't all happen to agree with them. I'm hoping VMK realizes they should be taking out the people who misuse the words, and not the words themselves. Let's stick to suggestions from now on. Thank you.
warner 06-14-2007, 05:43 PM You should be able to say Chests. As in Treasure Chests.
TeddyYeti 06-14-2007, 11:00 PM Accumulate= I don't know what it means but it seems to be helpful in business.
Beautiful= All i need are those beautiful little chairs of yours.
bff= Whenever I see Ranch and dizpinfriend they are always like "be if if".
lemonysnicket3 06-14-2007, 11:04 PM avalible= To say stuff like "Is the club33 pin still avalible?"
Orangemarker 06-14-2007, 11:16 PM I always hate not using 's at the end of a player's username. It usually ends up with me talking with really bad grammar.
Ex: IceMarker('s) chair for sale!
GraspingClaw 06-14-2007, 11:22 PM Ain't, Aint=Encouraging improper grammar. Astro, did you even read the posts right before your's? I'm guessing you didn't. And since when did VMK take on the role of English teacher? Adding a word to the dictionary isn't going to "encourage" anything, it's simply going to give us the option of using it. How one chooses to speak is solely up the individual. It's not as if they would add "ain't" and remove "isn't", so your right to continue speaking in a proper, formal, and boring way at all times would not be jeopardized. Contrary to popular belief, "ain't" IS in the dictionary (a little thing called Websters--ever hear of it?). To quote their online site:
"Ain't is used in both speech and writing to catch attention and to gain emphasis. It is used especially in journalistic prose as part of a consistently informal style. This informal ain't is commonly distinguished from habitual ain't by its frequent occurrence in fixed constructions and phrases (<Say it ain't so!> <You ain't seen nothin' yet!> <Two out of the three ain't bad.> <If it ain't broke, don't fix it.>) In fiction ain't is used for purposes of characterization; in familiar correspondence it tends to be the mark of a warm personal friendship. It is also used for metrical reasons in popular songs."
In conclusion, it's slang. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with using slang in relaxed conversation, especially if you've also been taught the proper alternative, which is the responsibility of parents and teachers and certainly not a Virtual Magic Kingdom. Isn't anyone going to show "ain't" a little love?
Beach, Beaches=We all know why... Then why do you feel the need to say anything about it? This is another great reason why you should actually read a few posts before authoring your own. I've already pointed out that I'm well aware of the reason behind it's removal and that I don't agree with it. This thread is here for people to suggest new words, not to try and convince me to take others off the list.
Called, Call, Calling, Caller, Calls=Calling people in real life. There's always a way to give out numbers. There's always a way to do anything. It's called dictionary dancing. If someone was dead-set on offering personal information, they could find a way. How is adding a very common and helpful word, such as "call" going to make anyone more prone to trying to share their phone number? Blocked numbers are the only obstacle we need and that obstacle is already in place.
Cya=Encouraging improper grammar Wrong, it's internet jargon; the same as brb, afk, and lol. Do you also have a problem with those being in the dictionary? Look, I love grammar as much as anyone, but get off the "proper" high horse.
Whom=I know this would be a great word, but it could be used for "Womb," adding to the baby problem in VMK. Y'know, you must be in a pilates class, because you're really stretching.
You should be able to say Chests. As in Treasure Chests.
You can actually say "treasurechest" and "treasurechests" in VMK right now; you just have to leave out the space. I'm pretty sure that's as close as they're going to allow. But thanks for the suggestion. :)
Accumulate= I don't know what it means but it seems to be helpful in business.
Beautiful= All i need are those beautiful little chairs of yours.
bff= Whenever I see Ranch and dizpinfriend they are always like "be if if".
Well, you can already say "beautiful" as well as "beautifully", but "accumulate" is a good one. I've added it and all it's alternative versions. "Bff" wouldn't be bad either.. that way I'd finally have a way to address my texting friend, Jill. ;)
avalible= To say stuff like "Is the club33 pin still avalible?"
"Available" is in the current dictionary, you're just misspelling it. However, when I went to check, I realized "availability" isn't in there, so I'm going to add that to our list. Thanks for the suggestion. Words have been updated.
TeddyYeti 06-14-2007, 11:46 PM Blot, I'm sure a big boy can figure what raps can lead to. If not, I'll pm you.

Ah, see, I was taking offense to someone having a problem with "rap" as a music genre, not what that particular word could be turned into with some evil dancing. *Sigh*.. I guess you're right. People would be that foolish. It's unfortunate.
And nah, I don't want "pwned" added. That's my word, yo.
P.S. Is "oober" anything like "über"?
AvasSoccer 06-15-2007, 12:25 AM i think they sould add " Tummy " , " Stomach " , " Chap " , " Ello " ,
" Poppit " , " Ya " , " Um "

Hmm, "Hedgehog", not sure if VMK doesn't have it. Oh and also the word..."Sonic " match those two up correctly and you get a character name XD.....egad! "XD" I'm pretty sure "XD" isn't in the VMK Dictionary.

Maribeth 06-15-2007, 12:46 PM no, but you can say dead guy's treasurechest ;)
We need xD and to be able to say things three times. Who puts only two periods in their message? Well, now it's a habit to only put two periods or exclamation marks.. MS Word is always correcting me!!
Also, if they're going to block numbers, at least let us say the number "one." I doubt anyones phone number is 111-111-1111. And they can't even say it that often. If people are going to say the number one for something bad, they're going to say it no matter what.

theastroA 06-15-2007, 01:05 PM Astro, did you even read the posts right before your's?
Then why do you feel the need to say anything about it? This is another great reason why you should actually read a few posts before authoring your own. I've already pointed out that I'm well aware of the reason behind it's removal and that I don't agree with it. This thread is here for people to suggest new words, not to try and convince me to take others off the list.
Wrong, it's internet jargon; the same as brb, afk, and lol. Do you also have a problem with those being in the dictionary? Look, I love grammar as much as anyone, but get off the "proper" high horse.
Y'know, you must be in a pilates class, because you're really stretching.
Yes, I did read the other posts. I know I wrote a couple of things that might've not made much sense, but I was just thinking like the Staff would, or who ever makes the dictionary. They think of all the possibilities of the word and consider how valuable to the dictionary it is. Like "Cya." You don't need it. You could say "See you." "Ya" would be a nice word to add so we could say "See ya." I see your point, but VMK really isn't going to add a word that isn't going to make a difference. I don't like the dictionary much, either, and would like some words to be added. I know VMK isn't all about grammar, but it would help. It's encouraging becuase it's giving them the option, and it's easier to write because it's shorter. Or, they do it so they can look cool (though I doubt it). I've seen people in real life write papers during class with abbreviations of words. "Tho, dem, lol, cya," I'm serious. It's their own fault, but VMK could help a little by not giving them the option to say it. Like in California (I'm pretty sure it's California), they banned junk food from schools so the kids wouldn't have the option to eat junk food all the time. Yes, it's their fault if they eat it, but taking away that option makes it that much easier for them to choose, and it might show them new food that's healthy for them that they like.
I probably had a couple of grammar errors in there, but at least I'm trying instead of taking the easy way out and saying "i c were u r comn from."
Maribeth 06-15-2007, 01:21 PM If they aren't going to add a word that "doesn't make a difference," then why we can we absurd things like "northing" and "afaik" and "bumm"?
Chat speak is meant for the internet, and when it gets to be a habit to write like that during formal papers and projects, then it is up to the parents and teachers of the student to interfere. Banning all chat speak from VMK would make no sense at all. VMK is on the internet, isn't it? So why shouldn't we have the option to use chat speak? "Ya" isn't a word, it's just short for you. Does that mean we shouldn't be able to say it?
And really, ain't is no shorter than isn't. People would mostly use ain't to personify, like show how they would be saying a certain phrase.
Which sounds funnier, if you're trying to be funny?
I've never seen a fish that big before!
Well, I ain't never seen no fish that big before!
Sure, we say ain't, but (maybe I speak for myself here) we wouldn't type it into everyday conversation on VMK.
I have the option to write this whole post a lot shorter and faster, by using abbreviations, and incorrect grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I choose not to, however, because I like to at least sound intelligent. If people choose to show how unintelligent they are by their lack of grammar skills, then that is their choice and you should at least accept it as their choice. It does not mean you have to partake in the chat speak.

I have no clue... Typos, maybe?
I know chat speak is meant for the internet, but things that aren't but one or two letters shorter than the word don't make any sense. "Wat" is a word that we shouldn't have, it's one letter than the word it's supposed to be short for! I'm not saying ban all chat speak, that would make a lot of people mad, but adding more words like "Wat" doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I know "Ya" isn't a word, and I know that it's probably not coming back to the dictionary. I probably used it once or twice when we did have it.
No, "Ain't" isn't any shorter than "Isn't," but it means the same thing isn't does, so why add another word that means the same thing as another word, isn't any shorter, and might even annoy some people? I know a few people that are annoyed when people say "Ain't."
I can and do accept that it is their choice to write like that, it just we have enough abbreviations on VMK already, and some we don't really need at all.
We all like to be lazy sometimes, but when it gets to the point that we are automaticly doing it in papers for school, work, or anything important that you need to write for, then it's a problem. VMK could help stop that if they quit adding silly abbreviations to the dictionary.
bopper 06-15-2007, 06:53 PM If they aren't going to add a word that "doesn't make a difference," then why we can we absurd things like "northing" and "afaik" and "bumm"?

Because I think that CYA stands for something inappropriate and I don't think that belongs in VMK.

GraspingClaw 06-16-2007, 02:52 AM And duck, I like ducks :)
"Duck" and "Ducks" are already in the dictionary.
Also, if they're going to block numbers, at least let us say the number "one." I doubt anyones phone number is 111-111-1111. And they can't even say it that often. If people are going to say the number one for something bad, they're going to say it no matter what.
Also, the word won. I'm not sure, perhaps they've brought it back (I know they added ate since I had left). There's no difference between "on" or "I" and "won" except the spelling.
I agree with this. And while I can understand why they need block most numbers, "one" is an extremely necessary word in many conversations. I don’t know anyone in the game, including the staff, who doesn’t use “I” or “on” as a substitute. So why not just add the real thing? The other digits would be nice in a perfect world, but don't get used nearly as often. I will add “one” to my list, and if you noticed, "won" was already on there. ;)
No, "Ain't" isn't any shorter than "Isn't," but it means the same thing isn't does, so why add another word that means the same thing as another word, isn't any shorter, and might even annoy some people? I know a few people that are annoyed when people say "Ain't."
That's just it, though; "isn't" and "ain't" really aren't the same thing. "Ain't" can be used in different ways to establish different styles of conversation. The use of "ain't" can possibly imply unintelligence, but it can also be used to consciously imply humor or be utilized to emphasize certain statements. Trust me, I don't want "ain't" added so I don't have to type "isn't" anymore; I just want the option to be a little more relaxed and creative with my conversations from time to time. And that's not a bad thing.
I think we should be able to say, "yesterday".. :)
We can.

You talk about finding thread topics, but it's obvious that you haven't even read this thread. If you had, you'd see that the link to MisterToad's VMK dictionary is on my original post and has been for quite some time.
This thread is not about wondering what words are in the dictionary and it's not about shooting down others' ideas; it's simply a place to suggest words that we don't currently have in our virtual vocabulary, but should. If you don't like the list or some of it's additions, that's fine and you're entitled to your opinion, but why bother posting here? If you have some POSITIVE ideas, then please feel free to suggest them; otherwise, quit spamming.
By the way, what are "fake" words? A word is a word is a word. Whether it's internet jargon, or common slang, everything on my list is a "word" (with the exception of quotation marks) and I will repeat that there is nothing wrong with slang or jargon. Are you telling me you've never used "lol" or "afk" on the game? How about "gonna" or even "BlingBling!"? Everyone I've ever met in life have used at least some abbreviations and/or slang and I guarantee you're not the exception. If you're not a fan of these words, don't use them (if by some chance they happen to get added) but why try to keep other people from using them? It's a waste of time and it's not welcome. Thank you.

"Ya" has been on the list since Day 1. Please check the list before posting. :)
Don't think they'd add that. We can already say "yea" and "yeah" so why would we need to say "ya"?
Well, "ya" is short for "you", whereas "yea" and "yeah" are ways to agree or celebrate; so it's not the same thing. Also, VMK used to have the word "ya" in the dictionary. For some reason they went through a phase of not allowing players to say the word "Yavn"; they deleted his title and also the words "ya" and "vn" (which was short for "very nice"), so people could not use them to dance with. They eventually returned "Yavn" to the dictionary, but have yet to bring back "ya". I see no reason why they shouldn't fix this.

GraspingClaw 07-04-2007, 02:16 AM How about they add kk, ssh, booting, booted, hand, arm, leg, Marlin, Dory, Remy, and Linguini.
"Booted", "Hand", and "Arm" are already in the VMK dictionary. "Booting" is already on our wish list. Please check these lists before suggesting. I'd be glad to add the others.
cream

Sure, why not? Well, I can think of a couple reasons. But hopefully they won't.. (Edit: I decided to go with "IceCream", instead. Seems a little more reaslistic to me, and really, why else do we need the word?)

GraspingClaw 07-04-2007, 02:37 AM Is K good? It's short for ok, although it's only a two letter word...

We'll finally be able to appropriately describe the Brass Monkey. Except we can't say "Brass". Hmm, I'll add that, too.
Wicked
Annie
Broadway
Phantom
Opera
I wish we could make better musicals, and of course we need those words! VMK Broadway shall reign!
To be honest, I can't see them adding a name unless it's the name of a Disney character or a staff member, so I'm not going to add "Annie".
In the meantime, "Opera" is already in the VMK dictionary. "Phantom" is also already in the VMK dictionary. (I should know, I got it added :)) And while you can't say "Broadway" yet, you can say "Broad" and "way". PLEASE check the current list of words before suggesting! It's really not that the difficult, I promise.

GraspingClaw 07-04-2007, 04:01 AM Experimental and Prototype...so we can say what Epcot means. :)
Good call, Bell.face. There are several variations on "Experiment" in our dictionary, but no "Experimental" yet. I'll throw 'em both up on the big board.

:D Kosher...it might be to religious (some religions eat kosher meat)
"Tradition" is a great one, I've been meaning to add that. Does "Fiddler" refer to the Pig or the Roof? The Roof would be Kosher. ;) "Supercali.." would be a great challenge for the more adventurous speller. Again, "Coming" is already on the Wish List..and "Come" was never removed from the VMK Dictionary. I can't see them ever adding "Phone" -- they're too afraid of what it could lead to. But I'll definitely add "Grammar".
Cant you already say gizmo in vmk? i tihnk you can..
Yup, you're right. But you can't say "Gizmos". I'll fix that.

sktrchick95 07-11-2007, 10:44 PM Yes, I did read the other posts.
:offtopic: no they didn't ban junk food from schools in California unless they banned it right after shcool ended b/c my school served pizza every Tuesday. If they did ban junk food from schools in California i would be dead. im not sayin' that i eat it 24/7 but... never mind
i just don't get why we can't say the names of foods. Like i can say "sorry i gotta go eat dinner bbl" my friend will ask what im having for dinner just b/c they are curious ill have to say "drat, vmk won't let me say it"
(GraspingClaw, while reading the list i came upon the word Grace. Grace is also a name not just a word, so i think that should be removed from the list)

oogieboogieman 07-14-2007, 01:51 AM So where is the list of words that may never be mentioned, i'm totally for having G-rated words but come on, i wanted to change my room name to "Fortress of Solitude" but Solitude is not acceptable, why is it a trademark thing!?!...and Star Wars names, there's StarTours and StarWars Weekends and i have seen Mr. Mouse with lightsaber anyway it's just frustrating at times not to have seemingly harmsless words when i see so many that should be banned.
SweetNSourr 07-14-2007, 05:33 AM I think we should be allowed to Do this SsSsSs after words or .. right right righ right over and over again! i don't get why we can't do that when writing :(
InvisibleSmile 07-14-2007, 06:03 AM ok ok.. we should totally have Chouette or Zut.
They are both french (lol i know language nerd, right?) but chouette means Cool, Super, Awesome... you knw fun words like that and Zut, means darn and its just a fun word to say :)

SweetAdelline 07-18-2007, 07:56 AM I may have been mistaken, but I don't think you can say literally. I could have typed it wrong tonight and I didn't double check. And also, Har. As in, "Har har, old friend. Har har indeed." Just one example of many possibilities that would make my VMK life more meaningful. Or something..

GraspingClaw 07-21-2007, 07:12 PM Thanks for the replies, everyone! Words have been updated, and I threw a bunch more of my own ideas on there as well. This thing's getting pretty lengthy!
Well, if you read the new newsletter last night, you'll see that Yavn specifically addressed our concerns with the dictionary. (The inclusion of the phrase "major adjustments" has me particularly excited!) I've already posted this in another thread of mine, but for those of you who don't know, Yavn wrote to me a couple weeks ago via PM on this site, and when I wrote back to him, I brought up my issue with our suffering vocabulary and linked him to this very thread. As you'll read below, he addressed this thread and the issue, as a precursor to what he wrote in the latest update. It looks like what we're doing here might have a big effect on the game very soon! So cross your fingers and keep those suggestions rolling in! :)
This is a segment of that correspondence with Yavn, which took place between July 9th and July 10th. I'm in purple and he's in green:
Yavn,
I'm sure you guys are hard at work on something great, as I'm always very pleased by the new artwork/lands, but you know what I really and truly wish you guys worked on more? The Dictionary.
I'm not sure if you've caught my thread "Words We Need: A Dictionary Booster", http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116836, but this is just a small sample of the many words we should be able to say. I know some of them are "controversial" because they have the potential to be used inappropriately, but wouldn't it be better to punish the offender, as opposed to the masses? Even if we don't see eye to eye on that, there are a LOT of completely harmless and helpful words that could and should be added. (Cartoon, Whom, They've, Twice, etc.) I know we have an option to suggest a word in Contact Us, but I think we both know it doesn't work that well. If it did, words would be constantly added, as I know there are many great suggestions out there. Frankly, even if it did work better, it would take a very long time to get the list of words we should have. We're in need of a big ol' booster pack, and that thread I linked you to is a great place to start.
- Claw
Claw,
I'll have a look at the dictionary and try to add as many as we can. At the end of the day it's a no win since many good words do get abused. But I hear you, it's time for more to be added.
Yavn
Keep hope alive!
SweetAdelline 07-22-2007, 05:46 PM A few days ago I decided that while on the game I would write down every word I wanted to say but couldn't. The number of words surprised me, and I just realized that there simply are not near enough words in the dictionary for us. And since we know now that Yavn is viewing this thread, lets bring in more suggestions than ever! (This list contains only the word, and not the variations. I am assuming, Claw, that you will add these for me. :D )

We already have it on our dictionary, you've just misspelled it. Try "likely". (You can also say "likelier" and "likeliest", if you're interested.)
Oh and you can say Ya'll. You have it spelt wrong
Actually, no -- VMK has it spelled wrong. It should be spelled "Y'all" because the apostrophe should take the place of the missing letters (o & u). I'm just asking them to correct their mistake.

Yes, Thank you Yavn!
I think we should also thank YOU GraspingClaw not only for your efforts in getting our dictionary expanded, and for the new words we can all enjoy, but also for not being afraid to ruffle a few feathers and speak up and speak out about things that will make the game better for everyone.
Some players come down on other players who speak out, offer constructive criticism, or push for changes to improve the game. I think we should all take note that when done the right way, we each have the power to make changes that improve the game for everyone. This thread and the new words added to the dictionary are proof of that.
The only way those in charge of VMK will know what improvements are important to the players is if the players speak up.
I find all of this very encouraging. I just may start speaking up more myself (and I'll use some of the new words!;)).
A huge thumbs up and Thank You to GraspingClaw for talking, and to Yavn for listening and taking action!!
Lets keep this going, and keep working together as a community on this and in other areas to make VMK even better!

Unfortunately, they'll never let "Fingers" through the door. You'd think "Thousand" would be okay, but they've made it pretty clear that they're number-intolerant. However, I will throw "Midfielder" and "Lemonade" up there. Thanks for suggesting.

GraspingClaw 08-02-2007, 11:15 PM We should add Cheese, soap, milk, and Jack.
"Cheese" is already on the list. I can't see them adding "milk" considering what the "bay.be" population would do with it, and I'm sorry to say but there's no way we'll ever get "Jack" by itself. I'll try "JackSparrow" and see if we have any luck with that. I'll also add "soap".
Grass.
Ya know, I have been needing to use that word.
Hmm.. could be considered potentially dangerous, but I'll throw it on there.
I Think They Should Add " Hard " :)
Sorry, that's another "no way" when it comes to VMK's standards. Too easy to misuse. It's not that I don't want it added, it's just that I know they'd never consider it. Thanks for suggesting, though. :)

I think I suggested that word before you did with Contact Us... yep. But I didn't suggest "Hedgehog".:)
GraspingClaw 08-03-2007, 04:23 AM I think I suggested that word before you did with Contact Us... yep. But I didn't suggest "Hedgehog".:)
The credit goes to PirateMario. Without suggesting "Sonic" or "Hedgehog", I wouldn't have added them to the list, and if I wouldn't have added them to the list, Yavn wouldn't have added them to the dictionary. We did it! Power to the people! :D
piratewithskill 08-03-2007, 06:11 AM For anyone who has been paying the slightest bit of attention to this thread, you should have come to the exciting realization that every single word that was recently added to the VMK dictionary on July 26th, 2007 was from this very post!
Now that we know he's paying attention, I wouldn't be too surprised if future additions come straight from this thread again.. ;)

Alienboy 08-03-2007, 07:07 PM How do you know all these words are in the dictionary? Did Yavn send a list or did you try them all?
Jezibabe 08-03-2007, 07:41 PM We still can't say whistles or whistling :(
GraspingClaw 08-03-2007, 08:30 PM Well arent you the little obsessive compulsive one! LOL Thats really cool though.
Hey, whatever gets results.
gear, gears
Done.
How do you know all these words are in the dictionary? Did Yavn send a list or did you try them all?
On the bottom of the first post of this thread is a link to MisterToad's Dictionary thread. Don't ask how, but he has compiled a list of every single word we're able to say on VMK. And a couple weeks ago, the big update we got from VMK was taken directly from this thread. :)
We still can't say whistles or whistling :(
I know.. I'm hoping he visits again soon and includes them in the next one.
Whipstersh 08-03-2007, 09:52 PM "whisper, whispers, whispering, whispered" I have been wanting to use these words alot lately, to refer to saying something quietly.
TikiRoom 08-03-2007, 10:25 PM Well, how about
Shush
Instead of Shh
GraspingClaw 08-04-2007, 01:09 AM "whisper, whispers, whispering, whispered" I have been wanting to use these words alot lately, to refer to saying something quietly.
Good suggestions; consider them added.
Well, how about
Shush
Instead of Shh
Yeah, that could definitely work.
Words have been updated!
Samantha1037 08-04-2007, 07:01 AM I really want to say drats lol they have drat in there but u cant say drats oh and u cant say secons either only second like in the game Hounted Mnasion u tell them how many seconds there? well i also want them to add banana ans strawberry bc wats wrong with those?
Reebee 08-04-2007, 12:49 PM I think it would be the bees knees if they would add the words bee and bees.;)
And I know it isn't the proper spelling, but hunny would go along well with the bees while making pooh fans happy.
-CL_Reebee <----(clearly this would also make an ideal shortened nickname for me in the game)
GraspingClaw 08-04-2007, 03:07 PM I think it would be the bees knees if they would add the words bee and bees.;)
And I know it isn't the proper spelling, but hunny would go along well with the bees while making pooh fans happy.
How about tut-tut, so we can properly distract the bees whilst we steal a small smackerel to satisfy the rumbly in our tumbly?
Yeah, I'm adding all of those.
-CL_Reebee <----(clearly this would also make an ideal shortened nickname for me in the game)
And you don't need a shortened nickname. You have a shortened nickname. The greatest shortened nickname the virtual world has ever seen. If I hear you suggesting that even one person calls you "Bee", believe me..the pixels are gonna fly.
monkeyfunkychunky 08-04-2007, 07:55 PM Forecourt. I don't think it should be necessary to dictionary dance a place that's in VMK. It won't do any harm adding it, either, because there's no bad ways it could be used. Only the proper way.
Narnialucygirl 08-04-2007, 08:03 PM Nice suggestions.. although words slike ain't shuoldn't be added as they are encouraging improper engish. Beach- NEVER will be added back, unless vmk decides to start banning the people who misuse the words rather then removing the words. It was used in replacement of a cuss word, and many people would use it excessively.
ummm just saying ain't is in the dictionary it might not be proper english but its a word
PrincessSofia 08-04-2007, 10:43 PM We need the word "hard"!
Alienboy 08-04-2007, 11:26 PM On the bottom of the first post of this thread is a link to MisterToad's Dictionary thread. Don't ask how, but he has compiled a list of every single word we're able to say on VMK. And a couple weeks ago, the big update we got from VMK was taken directly from this thread. :)
Yeah I saw the link, I think, actually pretty sure, how MisterToad got the list but yeah all good:pirate:
TikiRoom 08-05-2007, 10:25 PM We need the word "signatures"
Did you know you can't say it? Amazing, I know. I tried:
Does nobody read signatures anymore?
So, yeah. But I couldn't say it so...
JustOh 08-05-2007, 10:27 PM Spree, sprees :D
MsBored 08-08-2007, 12:26 AM i tried suggesting the word coming to the vmk dictionary so if more people keep trying to suggest because they see the word on this thread i'll be so happy!
Penguinz 08-13-2007, 12:26 AM I think we should be able to say the names of the characters in disney movies, such as Mary Poppins.
Glitterhorse 08-13-2007, 12:38 AM I have a few!
Glitter
Sigh, sighs, sighed
Poke, pokes, poked

PepsiOwns 08-13-2007, 12:41 AM You can say sigh..and yawn..

GraspingClaw 08-17-2007, 04:08 PM I think we should be able to say the names of the characters in disney movies, such as Mary Poppins.
You can. We got it added about a month ago. Granted, it's without the space, but MaryPoppins is as close as we're going to get.
I have a few!
Glitter
Sigh, sighs, sighed
Poke, pokes, poked
&&Horse
We can already say sigh. I'll add the rest.
