View Full Version : Macbook
Thenishall 06-09-2007, 02:49 PM Ah yes, the Mac that I used to be ranting about. I now have caved in, and decided to buy a Macbook. The one with 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB memory,
120GB hard drive1, Double-layer SuperDrive.
I was wondering if your Macbook ran fast, and if you've had any problems with it, what problems? Also, does VMK work well on it?
I cave in too much.
Thanks,
Shall
PaperClip 06-10-2007, 07:07 PM VMK does work good on there. I wouldn't say well, because it doesn't load near as fast as XP. Looks like you bought yourself a good computer ;)
neodude237 06-10-2007, 10:00 PM My friend has one, and he claims shockwave is NOT compatible with intel macs, and you must get a program called Rosetta to run VMK and other shockwave programs, which yes, lags. I do not reccomend macbooks for vmk... Vista is better ^^
Proof of mac intel not running shockwave straight from Adobe: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=82216d24&sliceId=2

Uhm, I know Shockwave is compatible with the Macs because I know many VMK players that use a Mac....
Thanks Clip ;)
Any more comments?
Zebraa 06-11-2007, 03:44 PM I LOVE my Macbook. VMK is actually pretty good on mine. Sometimes, when you're typing, the words come slower than your fingers, which can get annoying. Also, VMK doesn't load very fast, it takes like, 5 minutes for me. My Macbook is super fast though, I've had no problems, except with Java. I've tried to install Java sooo many times but none of them work. I called apple and they said it was a Java problem, not an apple problem :P It works on my friend's macbook though.

Rosetta is not a program itself, it's a mode on Safari. I run Safari on Rosetta, and it's the exact same thing, except it works with VMK.
Thenishall 06-11-2007, 03:49 PM Thanks Zebraa. Also, how are the keys in general on the Macbook? I checked all the computers out yesterday - the keys seemed weird.
Zebraa 06-11-2007, 03:53 PM I like the keys, since they are flat. Really easy to type on. If you're using a PC right now, then it takes awhile to adjust on this keyboard, because some buttons are different (like the apple button). There's also an extra enter button next to the arrow keys. I don't know if PC's have that. They're also spaced differently.
Thenishall 06-11-2007, 04:14 PM Thanks again Zebraa :)
PaperClip 06-11-2007, 04:17 PM I know that on SOME of the Macbooks, the keys are kinda rounded near the edges. That takes a while to get used to ;)
goblinguy 06-11-2007, 04:21 PM What are you gonna be doing with your mac book :D ?
Thenishall 06-11-2007, 04:38 PM Ok, thanks Clip..
Goblin - I'm going to probably end up video taping something, then I want to share it with my friends, so I'll be using iDVD, to make the DVD. And then the rest is probably just going to be making a podcast perhaps, and VMK.

Sorry for the bad quality, the pics are taken on my trashy digital camera x.x

If you're not a big gamer (outside of vmk), a Mac is amazing. I want to study film or music so I mix songs and make music videos/movies :)
PurpleMonkey 06-11-2007, 08:07 PM ^^ Blackbook, nice :)
I am planning on buying a (white) MacBook w/ free iPod :) I hear it is a great computer and I have used them in plenty of Apple Stores. I don't know if shockwave is a universal application.. but if it isn't then it should slow down VMK a bit, but it would still be playable. At least until a universal version comes out.
BTW - Rosetta is software that translates code written for PowerPC (older macs), so it can work on the newer Intel Macs. "Universal" programs don't need to be transcoded, so there is no performance hit.
Thenishall 06-11-2007, 09:15 PM Zebraa, do you know if Firefox is downloadable on the Macbook?
Thanks for the pics, can't wait till I get it.

Yes it is. Don't ask me how I know, I just do. I think it is a universal app. as well.
Edit: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Shows it is downloadable for Windows, Mac, and Linux

Np.
I just stick to Safari. One internet browser is enough for me, and I love Safari :)
