I didn't understand Yavn's newsletter very well about the quest going bye-bye:wave2:. So will Innoventions at disneyland still be letting you make a VMK-person born in park?

Thanks

Yavn didn't mention the VMK terminals at Innoventions; he only said that there would be no more quests at Disneyland. I suppose we can continue to hope that new players will have the opportunity to be "born in park" in California.

Do they still hand out vmk cards inside of Innoventions? last year I was walking up the stairs and a castmember was handing out vmk cards to all the guest. I was cool to get a card and not be on the quest

Word on the street from some reliable CM's was that they will be removing the terminals in @ 1 month after they close the VMK kiosk outside of Innoventions at DLR.

On a side note, I wrote into VMK, and received the following response to them ending the game. What really bites was after I received the initial response, I clarified myself that as a passholder I was not planning a trip, rather the argument of the additional funds that Disney collects from passholder like myself on additional items that I would have not otherwise bought. Well to my surprize I received the exact same "canned" response, including typos. Obviously, they do not care to explain themselves, and the closing is a done deal.

But what I don't get is that the CM's manning the kiosk are still as stingy as ever with the cards. I mean give us a break. You won't have to be interacting with us in a few days, just relax and loosen up on the cards!!!

Here is a copy of the "canned" response received twice regarding to completely different emails to VMK contact us. Let's hope City Hall Guest Services is a little more receptive tonight!

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to voice your concerns about VMK.

We understand and appreciate how you feel. But as Yavn mentioned in the Newsletter, there was never a plan to run in-Park Quest at Disneyland forever.

We?re flattered that you were coming to Disneyland for VMK, but you certainly shouldn?t change your vacation plans just because VMK is no longer in the Park. There?s lot of great stuff to see and do at Disneyland ? including the new Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, which is a brand new must-see attraction!

Thanks for writing and keep watching the Newsletter for more info on VMK.

>Well, thank you for not answering my email VMK. I failed to mention that my family are annual passholders to Disneyland, and that we had been to WDW two times in the last several years, however, we would not be able to visit Florida due to budget issues. That being said, yes I did read the newsletter, however, what I do not understand is what is the signficant difference in that WDW will retain the in park quests and be able to receive the prize cards, when DLR is now excluded? If it is not good enough for DLR, then why is it good enough for WDW? On a side question, how will we be able to complete our collection of the newly released and previously delayed limited edition foil edge cards?

Does anyone know? I'm wondering, I know the one in WDW is an actually building, not sure about DLR.

Well, DLR will most likely replace their booth with... nothing.

The two game rooms inside Innoventions may just house other games. The rooms were there before VMK.

In Disneyland the outside Kieosk will be gone and inside the building the first floor with the "cave" and the Cactus room will all be gone as it will be gutted to make way for a new "show" the top or second floor will still be Innoventions and the building still will rotate and they may keep a "few" computers for VMK so they can have kids make accounts or play and sell the NEW PIN BOXED SETS to us all addicts of our virtual Happiest Place On Earth.
That is the news from the park as of today

Sad end to a happy beginning....:wave2:

Is this just speculation, or do you have a source for this information? It would be helpful to know whether people will still be able to make "Born in Park" characters at Disneyland.

According to a very helpful CM today, he would actually like to take a sledgehammer to the kiosk. He was actually very frustrated and angry that they were getting rid of it as he has enjoyed working there. A little off topic, but he also said that Disneyland had nothing to do with VMK leaving DLR. He said that it was all decided by VMK and that the CMs were kept in the dark about almost everything VMK related.

Neoteny, I was also told that there would be a couple of computers left in Innoventions which could be used to make new accounts. Whether this is actually true or not I'm not sure but it apparently is what the CMs have been told to tell us.

While I believe the part about the Cast Members not knowing anything, I strongly doubt that the removal of the VMK Central kiosk from Disneyland was VMK's decision. VMK would have nothing to gain and much to lose from decreasing its in-park exposure. Also, VMK introduced new Disneyland quests only two weeks before the sudden announcement that the quests would be ending there. The discontinuation of Disneyland VMK quests was almost certainly Disneyland's decision, and I doubt that VMK is any happier about it than we are.

Well, I think its great that you contacted VMK, way to be proactive. Hmm, seems like it would be good to aim higher at Disney. Not too responsive were they? Well, kudos for trying and thanks for letting us know how it went.

My understanding (and this isn't written in stone, of course) is that once the Pixar Midway at DCA is open next year that the VMK computers will be there. Innoventions is allegedly closing for about 6 months to re-imagineer a new attraction.

That makes sense. Your explanation some-what answers my question, "Why would yavn go and make a new quest, and then a month later say the quests are leaving?"

Microsoft just inked a deal with Disney and will be taking over the entire first floor of Innoventions, where they will showcase technology that actually inspires some interest and awe, instead of reminding you of your last trip to Best Buy. Apparently, they're planning to remake the revolving platform lobbies into a “House of Tomorrow” exhibit, so looks like good things could be on the horizon. Construction is scheduled to start next month, with a grand opening around Thanksgiving of this year.
