View Full Version : Attention Beginning Pin Traders:How To Pin Trade~In A Park!
MagicMonkeys 05-02-2007, 12:17 AM I just thought that it might be needed,so here it is!
This trading sequence is easy to go through so have fun with it!
______________________________
1.Find a CM.
Finding a cast member is pretty much the only way to trade pins. Even if you see a Guest with a pin you would like, don't trade with them!Trading with guests can be serious.
______________________________
2.Finding a pin.
Here is the tricky part for me. Looking for a pin the CM has that you want! Look closely before you choose a pin. If you look at certain pins, they may have a little mickey on them. This means they cannot be bought in stores!(At least, usually)
______________________________
3.Completing the trade.
CM's will almost trade for anything. In my pin trading experience, any pin I wanted to trade with a CM they accepted. This is another theory of my Don't trade with guests. Make sure you take off the back of the pin, give it to the CM,then getting the pin of your choice.
______________________________
4.Saving your pins.
Remember, saving pins you want is very important! In my experiences,I always keep no-traders on one lanyard, and yes-traders on the other. Try collecting certain kinds!
______________________________
5.Sorting your pins.
If you collect a certain kind of pin, like me with Stitch,I suggest keeping those on a seperate lanyard. Always bring these on trips because you'll never know when you will get another!
______________________________
6.Retrading your pins.
Sometimes, people retrade some pins for better pins. If you'd like too, this is just optional.
______________________________
**7.Buying pins to trade.**
To start out,you need to buy a lanyard. After you get that, you need to buy pins to trade! I always go to an outlet store and buy the cheap ones for $3.99 or so.

Thanks for reading my guide and I hope that you learned something!
Thanks for reading!
AlexKZ 05-02-2007, 01:14 AM Great guide, but there are a few flaws. The little mickey doesn't mean you can't buy it in stores, because some you can, most however you can't. The little mickey ussually represents it a castmember pin, besides the buyable ones. Also how you said CM will take almost anything, it should be will take anything. CM have to trade pins asked for, that's why pins they don't want to trade are not with them. Overall great guide.

Thenishall 05-02-2007, 01:22 AM I've never done this before.
So you're saying after I hand in my VMK quests I can say, "Hey I'll trade you my x for your y"?
Sweet, if so.
Neoteny 05-02-2007, 01:33 AM Sometimes you can find bulk lots of pins on eBay for only about dollar a pin. Sure, most (if not all) of these pins are garbage which nobody wants, but you can trade them to Cast Members for the good stuff and end up saving a lot of money. Cast Members are not permitted to say no to a one-for-one trade request.
VanillaWillow 05-02-2007, 11:27 AM Coolness , at WDW and DLR? Or just one?

At both!
(It's clear we're talking about real pins here, right? Not VMK?)
VanillaWillow 05-02-2007, 07:34 PM Yep, it's clear. But it didn't say if it was at one or the other or both.

But-- If you have a pin and so does the cast member, you can't trade that pin.
EX: Let's say you have a goofy pin. So does the cast member. You want to trade Goofy for Minnie but you can't, because the cast members don't carry around 2 of the same pins.
They also have deals sometimes at parking. They will hand out cards and you can redeem them for 2 pins. They are common, but it's a great way to get you started!
BooBear05 05-02-2007, 07:39 PM One thing, though. If you're buying pins from a source other than Disney, make sure they are DISNEY pins! CM's do not have to accept the cheaper pins, only the Disney pins.
Happy Trading!
Schmoofy 05-02-2007, 07:54 PM Usually you can find really cheap ones at the Disney store, too, to trade for some CM pins. Nice guide!

That's a good point which I had forgotten. Still, it probably won't come up that often, and when it does, just trade Goofy to a different Cast Member for, say, Dumbo, and then go back to the first Cast Member and trade DUmbo for Minnie.
One thing, though. If you're buying pins from a source other than Disney, make sure they are DISNEY pins! CM's do not have to accept the cheaper pins, only the Disney pins.

That's also a very good point: Counterfeiting is not appreciated.
MagicMonkeys 05-03-2007, 01:13 AM True. It is a Disney Outlet store,so why would it be non-disney pins? Happy Trading!
Thenishall 05-03-2007, 02:19 AM I'll make sure to trade with a CM the next time I go! :)
MagicMonkeys 05-15-2007, 08:12 PM Thanks all for the comments!
fantasyphillip 05-15-2007, 08:14 PM where do you buy the landyeard and the pins?

Usually at Disney Stores.

Yes, we always buy pins in bulk. The CM's actually ARE allowed to say no to a trade though. If the pin is not actually a Disney trading pin, such as one pin I got a few trips ago that said "Peeping Beauty" on it. If you get a fake pin from a CM, you usually explain to the CM you are trading with that you got it from another staff, as said above. Sometimes they will seek out the CM, sometimes they will just shrug and believe you.

Yes, what I meant was that they're not allowed to turn down legitimate Disney pins which they don't already have on their lanyards.
