View Full Version : Project Tomorrow: Changes to Spaceship Earth (a cleaned-up thread)
figmentisback 04-12-2007, 05:05 AM The new post show exhibit will be called: Project Tomorrow: Inventing the World of Tomorrow. this exhibit uses games and such to educate people about what Siemens does and such...
A copy of the exhibit is also being installed at Innoventions in Disneyland.
The exhibits include but are not limited to:
An illuminated globe measuring 20 feet in diameter that will offer an ever-changing collage of inspirational images that invite guests to imagine the wonders of tomorrow.
Body Builder, a 3-D game that enables users to assemble a digital human body, simulating the Siemens technology developed to perform remote surgeries.
Super Driver, a driving simulation video game that showcases motor vehicle accident and avoidance systems developed by Siemens.
Those exhibits should be ready late this month for testing in the new post show at epcot, with 3 more coming online as they are ready.
GreatGatsby 04-12-2007, 10:23 PM Not a rumor anymore. Here you go, kids:Epcot's 'Spaceship Earth' to Feature Re-Imagined Time-Travel Adventure and New Finale Presented by Siemens
At Epcot, a re-imagined Spaceship Earth will combine the magic of the iconic attraction's time-travel adventure into the past with a new finale, presented by Siemens, which lets Guests imagine their futures.
Enhancements to the time-travel attraction will encompass changes to each of the ride scenes. New show scenes will be added to the attraction's story along with new lighting effects, costumes, set decoration, narration and musical score. The time travel adventure will be enhanced through new, interactive touch screens installed aboard each "time machine" that will enable guests to create their own visions of the future and see themselves in that future.
As Guests disembark the time travel experience, they are invited to visit Project Tomorrow: Inventing the World of Tomorrow presented by Siemens, where interactive exhibits bring to life the ideas and technologies Siemens is developing to help make the world a better place for the future.
The space is filled with fun, interactive games and displays that showcase innovative technologies. Here guests step into the world of tomorrow and glimpse the future of medicine, transportation and responsible energy management across the globe.
Opening to Epcot guests later this month, the first completed phases of Project Tomorrow will include an illuminated globe — measuring 20 feet in diameter — that will offer an ever-changing collage of inspirational images that invite guests to imagine the wonders of tomorrow; Body Builder, a 3-D game that enables users to assemble a digital human body; and, Super Driver, a driving simulation video game that showcases motor vehicle accident and avoidance systems developed by Siemens.
With phased renovations occurring through the year, Spaceship Earth's makeover is scheduled to be fully completed in early 2008.
Neoteny 04-12-2007, 11:29 PM But what about the wand?
GreatGatsby 04-19-2007, 03:57 AM Just a further note: the Orlando Sentinal has reported (quoting the usual unnamed sources) that the hand/wand structure will not be removed or changed.
Oh well.

Well, that's unfortunate. Got my hopes up there. :(
JeannieV 04-19-2007, 09:07 PM This thread is about new changes to the ball inside and out. First off, I LOVE this ride. I will be happy to play around after the ride as well.
Second, as for the hand, it cost mucho dinero to put it up in 2000 so thay had to use it furthure so they made the Hand and Wand. Many guest complain, but it is all about the almighty buck. When they feel it can be taken down, I am sure it will be, but not until every penny has been squeezed out of it, it stays. Of course, Guest Feedback is a big source of Disney changes and WE HAVE SEEN COMPLAINING guest get their way despite Disney/company policy. It never hurts to voice your opinion.
It may be an eye sore or not, but hey. It's a trivial thing to worry about when it comes to the wide scope of EPCOT. I would like to see Mickey ears on top for a year as well. ;) But, I too hope to see it back to normal in my lifetime.
Back to the inside, that is great. I really love educational games and future projects. I remember when a picture frame with digitally changing pictures seemed like such a fun and futuristic idea. ;)

Destination 05-01-2007, 03:22 PM that globe picture is cool!
Neoteny 05-01-2007, 03:32 PM Why do they insist on calling these exhibitions visions of "tomorrow," when it's clear that they are being used right now? Tomorrowland and Epcot's Future World should be about the possibilities of the future, not about advertising the latest gadgets available today.

I saw this image and totally rofl. You're right, it could be much worse!!!
Marysol 05-03-2007, 09:41 PM I personally like the wand, and glove it gives it a glow. I've been dieing to here about these updates and am so happy so see it come out finnaly.
Thark 05-06-2007, 01:51 AM The Wand is sort of..how can I put it..permanent. Through many inside disney sources the wand is permanent. Very unfortunate. Funny Story though, last year during the hurricanes, there was a countless number of Cast Members voting and wishing one of the hurricanes would blow down the hand and wand. Too bad they didn't :(...

Didn't The Magic Kingdom used to have a submarine lagoon?

Did you make that Neotony? Well that is really funny :).
KingdomsKeeper 05-06-2007, 12:02 PM I know a change they made to Spaceship Earth is that they took the Main Street Movie Theater ticket lady and put her inside Spaceship Earth. The Movie Theater is now VMK Central! - woot -
prisoner 05-06-2007, 12:42 PM I think the saddest thing about these changes to Spaceship Earth is that it will be closed the entire month of October. Why is this sad? Because it means that it will be closed for the 25th anniversary month of the opening of EPCOT Center.
Pretty pathetic to celebrate your 25th anniversary by having your iconic symbol be closed.
Neoteny 05-06-2007, 03:37 PM Did you make that Neotony? Well that is really funny :).
Nope, found it on Yesterland.
warner 05-06-2007, 06:52 PM These new things sound amazing! Oh, Neoteny, the big round ball with the pirate hat is freaky. I just hope you don't add Jack Sparrow's face on it. O_o

Yup, a relative that went on the ride said she was very disappointed in it
The hand and wand are coming down, at least according to a cast member that I talked to two weeks ago.

I'm going to wait for a more reliable source before I get my hopes up.

O.o A Cast Member shouting to everyone who came in the park that it is coming down is not a relible source? I would think that he would be corrected by other cast members.

Sorry, I just want something more official than the shoutings of a random Cast Member. Maybe a press release or other sort of official announcement?

Cast members are usually the last to know about changes...
(the leave a legacy cast members didn't even know their sales location was being removed even though the permits were filed, and many fansites knew it...)
Cast members will go by rumors they hear backstage, or stuff said by bus drivers who are notorious for their rumors... however sometimes their are good bus drivers who know more than they should.. and tell.
We would know if the wand is coming down since it is a structure and disney has to file a permit for that one...
StitchMad 05-25-2007, 08:07 AM Interesting. Thanks for the info. That body builder thing looks fun!!
What don't you guys like with the wand? I love it.
