Oh dear...luckily, my state didn't require shots when I entered the 7th grade...however, I went on exchange to Germany last year, and I had to get a ton of shots. The shots themselves don't really hurt a TON (I mean, sure they DO hurt, but its not like the worst pain in the world or whatever), its the thought of a needle getting poked into me that makes me not like them, so just try not to think about the shots. If you have an Ipod, or a portable CD player, I would suggest playing you favorite song, closing your eyes, and squeezing something in your hand. Also, don't have your doctor tell you when he's going to poke you- that way, all of the sudden you will feel a pinch, and it will be done. Good luck, lol :)

Even though I didn't get shots in 7th garde... I have had shots before. The needle isn't too big, and it doesn't really hurt.

And... erm... since when did getting your ears piearced hurt?

u get one shot thats it and it doesnt hurt try getting a shot every month! :)

I HATE shots!! They pierce your skin and it hurts so bad. One time before when I was getting surgery, they had to give me a shot in my right arm and then they put a TUBE in my arm! OMG it was so much pain, I remember tears trickeling down my face, and even the doctor started tearing because she saw me in pain.

Remember when you get a shot you get a reward, but since we are big they will not give us nothing not even a cute sticker for example a sticker of mickey or minnie mouse :)

Like i said i Hate shots! i remember getting my ears piearced at age 10 (or was it 9?) I had it on for like 2 weeks and it got infected! OMG i cried a lot and i had A LOT of Pain!

Right... and sometimes it's better to just look away... think of something happy... and normally the slightest pain you feel is like someone pinching you... At least that's what it is like for me

One of my odd qualities: I like to watch when the blood goes through the tube, when they are drawing blood from me. LOL. It doesn't hurt, to me. I've been in 7th grade, and it doesn't really hurt. Just stay calm, relax, and look away if you have to.

hum... well when I last got one done the nurse was SO NICE! She said on teh count of ten she would do teh shot and she did it on the count of 9 so that helped a bit! When she counted ot 9 I was thinking about how I was going to escape on the count of 10! lol well any one have any answers like how many it is? I am sorry CuteHailey!

TRUST ME. Even when it does go through your skin, it just feels like a sting for a bit. Just make a fist, and sometimes...Looking at it helps. It's odd, but it does.

if ya dont want shots to hurt do this.

1.Do not i repeat Do not drink water!
2.if they dont find any vains they're gonna have to do one on your hand( next to you knuckles) or on your finger.I had a finger shot last week and it didnt hurt! :)

I have heard so many things but you think they would like do the first one then VERY QUICKLY after they would do teh other so it is like Bang,Bang? that is so nasty to watch the blood eww!

Oh, oh, I forgot, my mom bribes me. When I see the doctor pull out the needle I start crying. Then my mom says "If you get the shot, we'll go to McDonalds! :) I know you want to go to McDonalds! :)" Haha, it works. :D

Bribes have already been made, right after the shots it's the mall for me! But i will be shopping with a hurting arm!

Okay folks, quit making the girl freak out...

For one, unless it's an IV (the needle that they leave in your vein), please feel free to drink all the water you want (except it may make you want to go to the bathroom or wet yourself)...

Two...if you relax, it won't hurt as much, because most likey, the needle will have to be in your muscle rather than the fat layer under the skin and if you tense up the fluid that has to be injected will stimulate the nerve endings under the skin...

Three...the needle maybe an inch long because it has to be in the muscle layer...hopefully, you will just have to get one shot...

Four...I've never heard of anyone getting a shot on their finger...they may be pulling your finger on that one...maybe they were getting a tiny poke to get a tiny drop of blood to sample for testing sugar on a diabetic glucose meter...the finger/hand is much more sensitive than the arm...

So, just relax, count and name all the counter curses you want to cast on the nurse/medical assistant and it should be over very quickly...

Ask them to put the cold stuff on. It makes the spot cold and numb (not painfully, but just not feeling) and it feels MUCH better. I get a flu shot every year plus other shots sometimes, and it has been helping :) You'll be fine! If they don't have the cold stuff, try grabbing something and squeezing it tight. When something hurts or is difficult to stay still, I hold onto my arm or shirt REAL tight xD It helps me concentrate and get through things :) Hope I helped!

I saw this thread and it hit home BIG TIME.

I've got a major phobia of needles...and I'm <a little older than a teen>

Here's what I do to get through injections and/or having blood drawn.

1. If you ask nicely, the doctor IS CAPABLE of injecting you in the back of the arm...meaning you NEVER have to see the needle! :)

2. Until recently (here, anyway) they had a product that would completely numb your skin up. You could be stuck with a fork and not feel it. See if they have any numbing cream to put on your arm with a cotton ball for awhile.

3. Talk to someone while they're doing it-mom, doctor, nurse, whoever. Talk a mile a minute, about anything-even if you're just listing the numbers in Spanish or what you had for lunch! chances are by the time you're done, it will be.

4. Close your eyes. If you don't ever see the needle, you don't know.

5. DON'T let them give you warning, it makes you more scared. I mean, know they're in the room and stuff but after the alcohol swab, don't have them count- I've had them do it that way before and they were done already by the time I asked if they were going to ever do it. LOL

I know you'll be fine. Coming from a girl who at 15 had such a panic attack when she had to have a simple tetanus shot and had the doctor and nurses pretend they couldn't find her file so they wouldn't have to deal with her, trust me, you'll do great. :) Oh yeah. Those same nurses were making fun of me.

Yeah I hate Shots too. Once I had kicked the doctor and ran out of the office. They had to hold me down to give me the shot.That was when i was like 3 though.I live in Florida also and have just started Middle School but I think i get the shots in 7th grade

I went to middle school in Upstate New York, and spent High School in Florida. I had to get a total of three shots...

1 in 6th grade
2 in 7th grade (BTW I also had to get a mandatory physical for school in that grade)

heh, I got two shots the other day; tenent and meningitust. It didn't hurt at all, just remember you will want them when your in a situation, like you step on something rusty--tenent will keep you okay from getting an infection. The other I got because I don't want to get it before I go to college ;) lol

If you didnt go already, ask them for the numbing spray. It makes things a lot easier :D

I'm glad you're feeling better, I was scared when I was going to get my shots about 3 months ago. I only needed one shot, the tetnus booster shot. The nurse like 'pinched' my skin on my arm where she was going to give me the shot and it didn't hurt at all. It only hurt a bit afterwards when I tried to move my arm. I think getting my ears pierced hurt more, trust me it won't be that bad. ;) Good luck.

I survived!!! I just came back from my shots 5 minutes ago and things went pretty bad!

I walked in bawling and bawling and sister had to get 3 shots and a thing were her finger bleed (I can not say the word) She went first and I stood out side waiting not able to look. When it was my turn I was like, no no no plesae no! And my mom looked at me and said stop now get up there! The mean nurse did the shots pretty quick and it hurt a bit for a second (I had to get two done). Then I hoped down and things started to get really blurry! I could not see. My mom said that I was white and so the nurse put sniffing stuff infront of my nose so I wouldn't faint. Then, the nurse started asking were i lived and how old I was to make sure I had not fainted! She did that for like 5 minutes and they kept saying are you ok? She brught me water and I started to see better but I was still dizzy and not feeling right. After 5 more minutes I could see and was still green! That was a bad day!

Oh please! I've fainted before and it's not that bad :) And anyways, I also have had to get LOTS of blood tests and if shots are anythnig like them, it doesn't hurt at all :)
