Tornados dont last long though. Just make sure that you arent staying at Fort Wilderness. comic_dreams 04-20-2007, 05:00 AM Neoteny speaks the truth. ;) Facnyface 04-20-2007, 05:10 AM I survived all 4 in 04. I was in the middle of the worst ((Charley)) so nothing to fear. Next time I'll be sure and get it on video HD style. But we'll see. Caterpillar AEIOU 04-20-2007, 05:32 AM With Hurricanes, you always have warnings. Most of the time, at least a week ahead of time. Disney really prepares for them. If you are there during one, the parks may close, but they will make up for it in some way.( If you are staying at a Disney resort) Most of the time, they will let most of the Cast members stay home with their families, so all 4 of the parks may not open. Sometimes, only 1 park will open, so they only people that are guaranteed admission at those staying at a Disney resort, or the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd. Just be prepared, make sure you bring extra money incase you wind up stranded, incase the airports close. Have fun, because most of the time, a lot of people cancel trips, and the crowds are really light, and the weather REALLY cools off! Neoteny 04-20-2007, 05:45 AM Oh, yeah, when my house was destroyed by Hurricane Isabel in 2003, it was a lot of fun. I was only homeless for about two months after that. Don't get me started on FEMA. If only I had lived at Walt Disney World instead! April 04-20-2007, 12:01 PM Some hurricanes are bad here. Charley was just scary since it occured at night. The others weren't as bad for me, cause you could see them. But yeah, they can last hours, and then even after they're done..they have to clean up debris. I'm glad WDW is really well-built otherwise it'd be gone by now. x_x Accountant 04-20-2007, 02:48 PM My one and only hurricane to be in was August 2004- Hurricane Charley. I can tell you we had notice the hurricane was coming the night before it came. Disney did open the parks that morning until 1PM the first part of the hurricane came at about 6 and the second about 8PM. We got to go in the park for free too. )THey didnt charge your ticket but you had to put it through the turn thing) The hurricane was scarry but less than an earthquake. Thats because we had time to get our family all together in one place. With an earthquake some were at work, school and home in the hurricane we all sat in one hotel room watching news. I only wish I would have had a map of Florida because we didnt understand where they talked about most of the time. The next day after the hurricane was my day to fly home. The airport and streets were a mess. Most flights were cancelled and most electricity out including the airport. But the airport had emergency dim lights. I was on one of the few that got to leave. we had lots and lots of standing and sitting on the floor at the airport and we could see tiles falling all over from the soaked ceiling. I would not want to repeat the hurricane but Disney was awesome place to be if I had to be there for it. Also you are very safe there too. Its a bummer to lose park time. But you know there is a bigger chance no hurricane will come when you are there too. I have been there in August before and never a hurricane. Cakee 04-20-2007, 03:05 PM Aww man, I'm going too in July/August, so you're not the only one! Well, Neoteny's right.. it really is better than not going at all. wombat 04-20-2007, 04:47 PM Maybe one of you WDW/Orlando area folks can put this all in perspective. How long have you been around there years wise and how many years did you have a hurricane hit? Wombat futuremartymcfly 04-20-2007, 07:11 PM The chances of hurricane hitting aren't THAT great, so don't get all panicky just yet. Eviie 04-20-2007, 07:27 PM Hurricanes can last for DAYS! Tornados dont last long though. Just make sure that you arent staying at Fort Wilderness. Hurricanes don't last for days. I live in FL. They last for a couple of hours. And those couple of hours afterwards is really ugly but it doesn't last for days. The hurricanes end in 6 hours or so. I've survived every hurricane (Obviously) they are fine. I went through the worst one in FL, Wilma! WafflePrincess 04-20-2007, 07:39 PM Hurricanes don't last for days. I live in FL. They last for a couple of hours. And those couple of hours afterwards is really ugly but it doesn't last for days. The hurricanes end in 6 hours or so. I've survived every hurricane (Obviously) they are fine. I went through the worst one in FL, Wilma! Hurricane Frances lasted about a day. It depends on where you are in Florida, how strong it is, and how big it is. I live in the WDW area and Charley has been our worse. Last Hurricane season they predicted like 5 hurricanes to come, and nothing happened. So don't panic yet, nothing might happen when you come. Skaterooni 04-20-2007, 08:56 PM Oh man. I'm going in september. I hope this hurricane season is like it was this past year, with only 1 or 2 Oranges 04-20-2007, 08:57 PM It's a rare occurence for a hurricane to cause damage to Central Florida. I wouldn't fret too much - most of them steer towards the panhandle and all Disney has to deal with is the fringe bands. It'll rain, and then two hours later the sun will be shining. In the ten years I've lived in Florida, the most "damage" we've ever experienced from a hurricane was a power outage for about thirty minutes. Annaso 04-20-2007, 09:00 PM In the ten years I've lived in Florida, the most "damage" we've ever experienced from a hurricane was a power outage for about thirty minutes. Then consider yourself lucky that you don't live in my neighborhood. Power outages can last for up to two weeks here when a heavy hurricane hits! As for your trip, like Oranges said, don't worry. Hurricanes don't usually do too much damage in that area! Dudejoejoe 04-20-2007, 09:14 PM Erm...Who said there would even BE a hurricane when you're down there. WafflePrincess 04-20-2007, 09:18 PM It's a rare occurence for a hurricane to cause damage to Central Florida. In the ten years I've lived in Florida, the most "damage" we've ever experienced from a hurricane was a power outage for about thirty minutes. That's another good point. Usually when hurricanes hit Central Florida, they have lost most of their strength. Yeah, we lose power, most people do, but nothing to bad. Hotels have back-up generators so they usually don't lose power as fast, so you will likely be better during a hurricane than most locals. Miketic 04-21-2007, 04:59 AM This all depends on when the hurrincane is coming, how the strenght of the hurricane, and where it would be going. I've live in Florida my entire life, my family almost experience hurrican Andrew in 1992, and we survived four hurricanes in a row in 04 with minor damages... Facnyface 04-21-2007, 05:31 AM The heavyest damage we got was our carport and window being taken out. And no power outages here the ulity company is very good im surpirse I like them better than my old ones. suitealex 04-23-2007, 12:34 AM The heavyest damage we got was our carport and window being taken out. Oranges 04-23-2007, 12:42 AM hmm would we get are money back anyway? No, because a hurricane strong enough to close down Disney World is an extremely rare occurence. If it does happen (which, it probably will not), you won't get your money back, but they'll reschedule a trip for you. Note: They'll pay for you to stay over in a hotel, but they won't pay airfare to get you back. Jurassic park fan 04-24-2007, 01:44 AM I survived all 4 in 04. I was in the middle of the worst ((Charley)) so nothing to fear. Next time I'll be sure and get it on video HD style. But we'll see. Yes, I survived all 4 also. Don't worry, there are only 150 mile per hour winds and large, sharp objects flying around at high speeds. ... Definetly not a good time to go. Smack dab in the middle of hurricane season. |
