View Full Version : No links to ebay please
GreatGatsby 09-21-2005, 04:31 AM Do not post links to eBay or any other auction site in your messages.
This is just part of the general rule against posting outside links, and the main reasons are as follows:
No Advertising
No Non-G Rated Posts
We, the moderating staff of the VMK Forums, cannot determine that a link to an eBay item has not been posted by the seller, and we cannot guaratee such links continue to ensure our "kids-appropriate" content of this site.
Members may post information about a VMK-related auction (such as "I just saw a Hippo Rug sell on auctiontown for $1000"), but may not post an actual link.
DarthTimmy 09-21-2005, 04:36 AM Thanks for letting everyone know GreatGatsby. I know there have been many e-bay threads that are not allowed.
toonysean 09-24-2005, 05:37 PM why have them putting ebay links?
nausicaa 09-30-2005, 01:47 AM I really have no clue, but I think they want to promote buying something or something like that. Personally, maybe there are circumstances in which they are allowed, but maybe that's wrong.
Horizons 09-30-2005, 02:34 AM I just posted this ebay link because it was funny. Someone was selling the vmk flyer because it had a code for 50 credits on it. This is funny because, It's a multi use code you can get here on the fan site for free. I thought I was just posting something funny, not doing anything wrong....
Alinator 09-30-2005, 07:53 PM why have them putting ebay links?
I assume you are asking why we can't post eBay links?
It goes against VMK house rules. You can read about those here:

WDWFutureGirl 11-22-2005, 03:29 AM Hi everyone.
Over the past couple of days we've needed to remove a few threads linking to eBay.
Please do not set up any more of these kinds of threads.
Thanks.
The Great Gatsby is really..welll great..ty for the info Gatsby
SweepHunter 11-22-2005, 05:06 AM Please understand that some people using this site are minors and underage. Their parents give the kids permission to be on this site but may not want their kids in other sites like Ebay or game sites. I met a kid at VMK whose mother does not allow him at this site.
Click here if you really need to see the link. (http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/help/index?name=HouseRulesPage)
Batleth 11-22-2005, 10:23 AM We are expanding this to several host sites as well. Many users are starting to display links to host sites that are not G-rated. These posts, links, or threads will be removed from these forums. If you are not sure whether something is G-rated or not, ask one of mods/admins before posting it.
JustBlase 11-22-2005, 10:26 AM why Are they putting links to ebay? I dont understand......
Batleth 11-22-2005, 10:28 AM why Are they putting links to ebay? I dont understand......Some people are selling items for VMK on ebay. This is nothing but a scam since you have to pay real money for a virtual item.
SweepHunter 11-22-2005, 11:09 AM why Are they putting links to ebay? I dont understand......
Some do it to show stuff they have for sale.
Some do it to show something they think is interesting on Ebay such as this dude who sold toast that had the image of some famous person or thing.
Some, I know from experience at my site, do it just to drive moderators and site owners up the wall.
This is a kids site and kids should not be in Ebay. Based on my experience with pin buying I should not be there either, lol:wave2:

Off-topic,but You colltect Disney pins SweepHunter? I have a collection going as well. And as for the ebay vmk cards, ppl are now selling space mounain room codes and the codes you get from magazines and cereal boxes. Disney needs to do something to control these ppl.

Disney has security personnel who monitor online auction sites for various things like fake merchandise, and selling disney property. It has been a couple of years but I used to talk to cast and learn things from them. Disney omnipresent almost like God, everywhere watching you. This is one reason I no longer make mules for example. I never sold pins on any Disney property either not even in the ladies room for example.
As for the selling the free codes you can contact Ebay and tell them what is going on. Ebay also has a department dedicated to fighting scams and fake ebay emails. You can complain to Ebay if an auction is dangerous or a scam.
Yes I am slightly paranoid but normal for our times.
AGgal 11-27-2005, 04:50 PM yea all of you memebers

TinkMagic 12-19-2005, 07:27 PM But..What's eBay???
No offense, but this is a perfect example as to why. ;)
Also, this is a G rated site.
TinkerBall1 12-21-2005, 06:41 AM But..What's eBay???
You don't know what ebay is are you kidding me. Also people selling vmk stuff on ebay is not a scam I bought a wanted poster code on their for $1.00 free shipping because they e-mailed it to me and boom the code worked and I got my wanted poster.
LadyFire 12-21-2005, 03:54 PM people selling vmk stuff on ebay is not a scam I bought a wanted poster code on their for $1.00 free shipping because they e-mailed it to me and boom the code worked and I got my wanted poster. The code worked and that is great! But that does not always happen. I have actually witnessed a white snowman code card for sell, and the seller is claiming that while it does not indicate in the name or photo, it is the Gold one. The main scam is this, they are making you pay for something that they did not pay for so they get 100% profit at Disney's loss. You can try to argue that they paid for the trip to the park, but what you pay for are the attractions, and VMK related items are just a bonus. Disney has offered you a free way to enjoy the magic of Disney by creating VMK and the virtual items that are used in-game. That is their way of (marketing too) saying "thanks" for being a Disney fan. Then some shady folks decide to profit off of Disney by selling the items. THAT is the scam. At the bottom of the code cards, it clearly states, "Virtual prizes may not be sold or transferred and have no cash value"
Chaelle 04-13-2006, 02:54 AM why Are they putting links to ebay? I dont understand......
Maybe because someone is selling their items on E-bay. My sister and I saw inferno up there (I don't want to tell you the price... oh the pain, it hurt my eyes)
But..What's eBay???
A place where people auction there stuff off the internet. It's addicting, I strongly encourage you not to try it.

spot41414 04-13-2006, 03:03 AM Many people have been putting links to Ebay to show that people are paying alot for VMK items.

Schmoofy 04-13-2006, 03:09 AM Many people have been putting links to Ebay to show that people are paying alot for VMK items. Yes, that's out of hand. It angers me more that a forum member is selling his VMK items on ebay from here. I am not sure if anything can be done, but the ebay link thing is enough.
GBShorts 04-13-2006, 03:54 AM Yes, that's out of hand. It angers me more that a forum member is selling his VMK items on ebay from here. I am not sure if anything can be done, but the ebay link thing is enough.
I do believe the VMK values state that you may not sell items or accounts lest it be deleted.
figmentisback 04-13-2006, 07:39 PM at the bottom of the new WDW quest, it states:
"Quest cards may not be solf or transfered and have no Cash value"
take this and read into it... VMK is free.. nothing in vmk has a cash value.. thus it is against VMK rules to sell vmk stuff... now if you happen to sell a mickey hat... and accidently throw in a vmk card.. free.. that might also ber against rules.. but not as bad.. lol (reads into VMK rules to much)
cratle 05-10-2006, 01:14 AM I see an Ebay link, I just hope it goes away right now.

EDIT: Its been deleted.
Chaelle 05-10-2006, 01:17 AM I do believe the VMK values state that you may not sell items or accounts lest it be deleted.
Wait, they will delete the account?! I'm never going to sell my character but is it true? I better look...

Goldhunt 05-10-2006, 01:29 AM ooo! I'm sorry I must have had two posts with E-bay links. But thanks for lettin us know I will let others know who posts links to E-bay in the future.
warioguy 05-10-2006, 01:32 AM I do believe the VMK values state that you may not sell items or accounts lest it be deleted.
Yes it is true. Not only does it say so on the bottom of WDW Quest Cards (or at least thats what I hear), but it also clearly states this in the VMK House Rules...
9. Don't buy or sell accounts or items. We reserve the right to cancel any player account that was bought or sold, or player accounts that have bought or sold items.
While many people on some sites *coughebaycough* tend to ignore this rule, that doesn't make it any less real. Please people, do not sell VMK items on eBay.
Although I'm not sure if selling the cards is allowed or not...anyone want to clarify this?
Now, I'm making myself sick from the long speech full of this "proper grammer" stuff I hear so much about. I must rest. lol
GreatGatsby 05-10-2006, 07:12 PM This was a long-dead thread, but recent events have brought it back, so we thought some further words were needed.
Let us remind all of you about this rule and clarify some of the reasons why we have it.
Do not post links to eBay or any other auction site in your messages.
This is just part of the general rule against posting outside links, and the main reasons are as follows:

We, the moderating staff of the VMK Forums, cannot determine that a link to an eBay item has not been posted by the seller, and we cannot guaratee such links continue to ensure our "kids-appropriate" content of this site.
Our disallowing eBay links has nothing whatsoever to do with the VMK policy against selling VMK items. That's Disney's policy, and not ours. In fact, members may post messages announcing that they saw a Dancing Inferno pin selling on eBay for $300 - that information is VMK-related in a "hokey smokes!" sort of way. Membes just may not post an actual link.
We hope this clears up our stance.

Schmoofy 05-10-2006, 07:16 PM So basically, people can make a thread about how badly people are breaking rules by selling these objects, and their prices, but no links can be put down? And before something gets posted, the name of the site, such as saying it's sold on eBay, is allowed?
GreatGatsby 05-10-2006, 07:23 PM So basically, people can make a thread about how badly people are breaking rules by selling these objects, and their prices, but no links can be put down? And before something gets posted, the name of the site, such as saying it's sold on eBay, is allowed?Essentially correct. Almost everyone on the net knows what eBay is, just as they know Amazon and Google, so discussing their existance does not break any rules. If, however, someone posts the name of a site that is notorious or questionable for some reason, moderators - as always - have the right and duty to remove that name.
When someone posts links, however, they have crossed the line from the universally known to the very specific, and that's point the moderators have placed the barrier.
If you have any questions about a site name or other related matter, please PM a moderator before posting.
MagicalGlow 05-10-2006, 07:31 PM tyvm GreatGatsby :)
rapby60 05-10-2006, 07:34 PM thx for the update but really dont understand why ebay is here....
TracyBehave 05-10-2006, 08:01 PM >.@ Wow, this is actually pretty sad. And yes selling VMK items for real money should be frowned upon. And I think I understand why vmkforums is banning this.
GreatGatsby 05-10-2006, 08:14 PM Disney's policies have been supported here on other issues, such as discussion of ways to obtain prizes by hacking, and I don't really know why this should be any different.Allow me to point out a vital difference between VMK and the VMK Forums: Disney does not run this site.
What they set as rules for their game are separate from what we set as rules here. Some of the rules we have set happen to correspond to their rules because those rules simply make sense.
We do not give out VMK items, therefore we have no opinion on the selling of those items. VMK materials are sold under the table whether we say so or not. And our disallowing discussions on it will not impede it from happening.
If a member wishes to break a VMK rule - especially the ones surrounding selling items for material gain - the penalty for being caught is on their own shoulders.
We will, however, not allow the items to be sold through us or on this site. That is another reason the links are not allowed.

silentkidDoubtful. This discussion is specific to VMK-related items. Anything else is off topic and could be considered spam depending on what it is. Furthermore, the rules about appropriate topics and G-rated still apply. It might be best if you found another outlet for those kinds of posts.
Thanks.
