View Full Version : Heads Up.
Mr.Lunatix 06-27-2005, 06:17 AM Just to give you guys a heads up.
And not to start any drama.
BUT I spoke with several people in VMK staff, and they that they are not even sure if Launch is tomorrow.
So don't wake up to early, to be the first to be dissapointed if nothing comes out tomorrow. But the other lands are in testing, with a server for VMK Devs. So it will be potentially bug free when it premieres. But Were still not sure if is coming out.

Nice. Any word yet about those of us with Beta accounts? Resets? Anything wacky like that?
FlyThenFall 06-27-2005, 06:18 AM Oh well. I'll be on VMK at 7:00 AM tomorrow anyways...I can't sleep longer than 6:30 nowadays (and its summer, ::gasp::) Thanks for the warning so I don't get my hopes up tomorrow!
Microbless, they're not going to do wipes. I believe Yavn has confirmed this many times over.
Lexweb 06-27-2005, 06:18 AM Well hopefully it is bug free and they release it tomorrow. So everything is completed, it is just testing?
Im still waking up early in hopes it is running.
Mr.Lunatix 06-27-2005, 06:19 AM There will be no Reset, when ever VMK is launched for non beta release, whenever that may be.
microbless 06-27-2005, 06:20 AM There will be no Reset, when ever VMK is launched for non beta release, whenever that may be.
Well that's good. Will there be a charge/fees/etc. once this thing goes "live"?
They previously said that they would NOT reset accounts. But personally, I wish VMK didn't open until later. There are still tonnes of bugs that still need to get worked out and I really hope that VMK will not open up until everything is in ship-shape. Well, expect no drama from me! Thanks for this topic, because I know the second I come here tommorow, there's going to be chaos here. At least now, there's going to be less chaos.
PS: As you can tell, my incoherrent ramblings is a sign I should go to sleep. :D
Mr.Lunatix 06-27-2005, 06:22 AM Nope its all Free. Well the accounts I mean ;)
GBShorts 06-27-2005, 06:22 AM No his goal is to be free too.
This isn't a funny trick. (I'm not saying it is-I'm saying it would stink if this was the case)
But oh well. We can still play, folks!
Foustketeer 06-27-2005, 06:23 AM Well that's good. Will there be a charge/fees/etc. once this thing goes "live"?
I am pretty sure that they have said that this will be free of charge!

OT, you friended my girlie! She is Macrobless in VMK. I got her hooked on it. She actually got a lap-top w/ wireless connection so we can both play at the same time. The only reason I hope it doesn't open tomorrow is we are both starting a new job... and we have thought about all weekend is "The VMK Launch" Lol... you can see where our priorities lie. :D
figmentisback 06-27-2005, 06:28 AM There is a chance some things might happen.. and chance most things wont..
Who knows if they will flip the switch.. We have no idea untill tomorrow.. remember this is new for disney so you have to expect problems and learning from them...

Oh yeah I beleive it. I actually WORK testing video games. Bugs are nothing new to me. :D
GBShorts 06-27-2005, 06:34 AM The only differences once it's open will be more lands and ways to win stuff..
yes those are big, but we can live awhile longer. :)
Foustketeer 06-27-2005, 06:37 AM I can't say I will be disappointed if it doesn't Launch tomorrow but I mean the only really new thing is gonna by a new land and maybe some other stuff!
Lexweb 06-27-2005, 06:37 AM The only differences once it's open will be more lands and ways to win stuff..

ROFL!!
or a sweater with a deer on it.
I admit, I'd be disappointed too but it will make it much easier for me to get out and go to my eye appointment and buy groceries (like CEREAL) if there's nothing new going on in the game.
Foustketeer 06-27-2005, 06:43 AM Yea...now that I know my dad is staying home I need to check early and see anything new is up. He tells me I spend too much time on the game.
dizneydesi 06-27-2005, 06:44 AM But personally, I wish VMK didn't open until later. i couldn't agree more about fixing the bugs and having everything in better order. at least i can rest easier now that i know itis still beta. beta to get things in order than have chaos reign!

So true. I can imagine my 1st day of work and instead of testing I'm on VMK all day checking out the new lands! Lol... that'd be awesome. Or better yet, I call out sick for my 1st day so me and my girl can go to the park and take the insider tour. he he he :D
Foustketeer 06-27-2005, 06:47 AM Now...that wouldn't be very good for a first day. What kinda impression would you be making that way? I would do it too!! :D
Wynsome 06-27-2005, 06:49 AM beta to get things in order than have chaos reign!Cheesy puns are the best!
When I wake tomorrow, I will be surprised either way. I was not really expecting it to open, but with all the rumours I had/have a small glimmer of hope. I even registerred (finally) just in case it happens.
shiregirl 06-27-2005, 06:52 AM Mr.Lunatix, I'm glad you posted this. I would not be suprised if launch didn't happen tomorrow, and if it doesn't, I hope everyone takes it well. And, if it does, then Yippy-Skippy!! :D
FlyThenFall 06-27-2005, 06:59 AM And, if it does, then Yippy-Skippy!! :D
Shiregirl, I heart you for saying that. I haven't heard anyone except Miss Piggy of the Muppet Babies say that in a long time. :D Anyways, we're all keeping our fingers crossed for tomorrow. (They might do the release in the afternoon too, just like on the Beta opening!)
PixelProphet 06-27-2005, 07:46 AM i really wish it or hope it too, be the second best birthday present *wink* shiregirl
ccpone 06-27-2005, 09:42 AM ... BUT I spoke with several people in VMK staff, and they that they are not even sure if Launch is tomorrow.
Am I the only person who finds it odd that the VMK Cast Members don't even know if and when the launch is scheduled, less than 12 hours before the rest of us seem to think it is?
Wouldn't you think that they would have been told by now? I mean, I know that VMK doesn't exactly compare with the Happiest Celebration on Earth, but it IS Disney; there HAS to be some sort of scheduled launch date... that the CMs should be informed about at some point... say, 12 hours before it's supposed to happen.
Miss MeowsALot 06-27-2005, 12:10 PM Thanks for the heads up MrLunaxtix. I wont be mad if it doesn't open. Anyway I hope it opens beta is so out. jk lol

It does not surprise me--one thing that I haved learned about Disney over the years, they like to keep things under the lid-------------
Miss MeowsALot 06-27-2005, 12:38 PM Well, The didn't to hot a job of it. lol If we all know and everyone else knows then they did keep it "undrt the lid" lol
prisoner 06-27-2005, 12:52 PM It does not surprise me--one thing that I haved learned about Disney over the years, they like to keep things under the lid-------------
This is a polite way of saying that they don't communicate with each other very well. :)
It doesn't surprise me either that (a) it might not open today or (b) that "insiders" don't know. For starters, its software, and programmers have a habit of optimistic release schedules (I know - I do it all the time). Second is that there are a lot of people involved, some of whom definately don't talk to each other - do the programmers talk to the in-park people? Do the in-game cast members? I doubt there is much communication going on here, and thats pretty typical for Disney.
Finally, I'd like to echo what was said a couple of times - its not like "going live" will mean all that much. We might get a new land and a new game, but its not like they haven't been giving us new stuff (Kelloggs-land, the in-park stuff) as we went through Beta. And once its live, its not like it will become static (we hope!). VMK is an evolving system, and it will continue to evolve - thinking of today as "something special" misses a bit of the point, imho.
"Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." -- Walter Elias Disney
PixelProphet 06-27-2005, 03:45 PM according to yavn, beta is offically over, anyone that creats an account today on will not have a Day 1 badge, however the new lands will be open for the holidays. More Magic and costumes as well as other 'goodies' are on the way.
GBShorts 06-27-2005, 03:54 PM holidays?
which holidays? That's not very specific. :)
GBShorts 06-27-2005, 03:57 PM WHAT HOLIDAYS??
ahem.
Fourth of July?
Thanksgiving?
Christmas?
Hanukkah?
Festivus?
tina_als_girl 06-27-2005, 04:10 PM Well, I think someone said fall or winter, so I'd guess he meant before the Christmas holidays. Most people don't use the term "the holidays" before Fourth of July....
Joy
FlyThenFall 06-27-2005, 04:15 PM Ah, Festivus for the Restuvus! :p Oh well, I have learned yet again not to trust Disney on release dates...I thought Light Magic was supposed to come back five years ago! Wha' Hoppen?
microbless 06-27-2005, 04:23 PM Ah, Festivus for the Restuvus! :p Oh well, I have learned yet again not to trust Disney on release dates...I thought Light Magic was supposed to come back five years ago! Wha' Hoppen?
Wow... Light Magic dude? That just brought back a bunch of memories I tried to repress! :D
FlyThenFall 06-27-2005, 04:27 PM I thought it would...muhahahaha! Anyways also remember...Submarines announce by 2000 and Main Street Electrical Parade "glowing away FOREVER." Yeah, Disney has a history.
dewdrop 06-27-2005, 04:31 PM What I was told by progameer types and on the VMK tour (if it is in the script, I suspect that it the official company line) is that the new lands will debut in December.
Never looked so forward to the holidays...

Who hasn't heard of Disney "Soft Openings"? I can think of many a ride in the parks that has opened long before it's official history book date... The cast was trained to operate it, the public was let to ride it, and come opening day, nothing happens that is any diffrent then the day before when the ride ran and the public rode on it....
Think of VMK as the same way, today is just another day that this ride is open, we just happen to put a plaque on the wall that said it opened today for history's sake.
Lexweb 06-27-2005, 05:48 PM WHAT HOLIDAYS??
ahem.
Fourth of July?
Thanksgiving?
Christmas?
Hanukkah?
Festivus?
Isn't festivus that made up holiday by Jerry Stiller on seinfield? The one where they habg up a giant metal pole instead of a christmas tree? LOL :D
GBShorts 06-27-2005, 05:49 PM Isn't festivus that made up holiday by Jerry Stiller on seinfield? The one where they habg up a giant metal pole instead of a christmas tree? LOL :D
Yep, my husband and his buddies had one in college :)
prisoner 06-27-2005, 05:56 PM Who hasn't heard of Disney "Soft Openings"?
A great point.
The big difference is that most attractions don't continuously evolve. So their opening day really marks the ending. With VMK, the opening day is more of a beginning.
GreatGatsby 06-27-2005, 06:15 PM Submarines announce by 2000
For the record, any Cast Member who was at DLR when the submarines were removed can tell you there was never a plan to bring them back. Paul Pressler hated the attraction and ripped it out the moment he had the power to do so.
So now they are spending a huge amount of money to put ot back in.
Penny wise and pound foolish.

Now that I think about it more - this is just like Disneyland itself. Different kind of virtual visitors, however.
MissAmber 06-27-2005, 06:24 PM Good to know. I currently logged out of VMK because I got in a little fight with someone. They kept saying that Tomorrowland was opening later today and Yavn told him. Yavn wouldn't go around saying "It's not opening for a few months" and then go tell someone something different.
captain_dl 06-27-2005, 06:38 PM WHAT HOLIDAYS??

Fourth of July?

LOL --- That was always one of my favorite shows!
It's a Festivus miracle! :D
Mr.Lunatix 06-27-2005, 06:42 PM Yes, I think from now on we are only going to post news that is official VMK news, lol for the lazy people who don't want to look at www.vmk.com :D However I am really pleased with this Wallpaper thing. Sorry about the expectations at Launch, at least we got a really cool Badge :D
Bruen 06-27-2005, 06:49 PM Why does everyone think than in order for beta to be over something amazing has to happen. Beta is an official testing phase. Disney decided Beta is over. This does not mean anything new will happen right now. It does not mean bugs don't exist, they *always* do.
Does no one understand the concept of beta? The concept of "expansions"? Has anyone played any other online games aside from Disney. Sigh.
GoldenHeart 06-27-2005, 08:33 PM  VERY late post! because it is that day and vmk is open! we each got a reward for being on vmk since day one!
