I think, we'll pass on this. Java applets tend to create lag for many users. We've already got the news, announcements, and stickies for important stuff.

Not that many vB sites have vBshout on them.

I think he's referring to vbShout or a similar modification that puts a compact shoutbox at either the top of the forums or the bottoms. Registered members can "shout" on the shoutbox having a full range of features (bold, underlined, smileys, color, etc.). Naturally administrators/other staff members can control what goes on within the shoutbox.

I personally think vbShout is far more suited for smaller communities so the shoutbox isn't overflowed and spammed. But I have seen it work on some larger sites.

I will put it this way, IF IT CAN be modified or personalized by any other member of this site other than YOU (the owner of the UP), then it is NOT allowed. Our shout out boxes are covered by our dictionary, yet others would not be and we could not control the G-rated content of your UP nor could we watch out for all the spam. Make sense?
