Dark Days Ahead

Winter is finally over and spring break is looming just around the corner – but something else is looming on the horizon, something dark and it's on the way to VMK! (Now don't skip to the good stuff yet – we're serving up some tasty info you'll want to eat up before getting to dessert!)

How to Clear a Room

Silly me, last week I forgot to tell you about one of the coolest features in the new build – the Clear Room button! Now you can send every single item you've got in a room back into your inventory with the click of a button.

Just one click of that red button – and everything in your room is placed back into inventory!

No more removing items one by one – you've got to happy about that – I know I am! Now we just need a way to sell back items in bulk!

Last Chance For EPCOT Questing

Alright, this is the last week to grab that EPCOT Guest room – in fact, you have until the end of the week to complete the 4 EPCOT Quests.

Tomorrowland Quests

Another reminder for all you Questers out there – we're getting reading to re-launch the in-game Tomorrowland Quests. If you want to get another star for your Diving, Driving and Flying Pins you'll need to make sure you've completed the current in–game Quests. (Don't worry if you don't complete the Quests, you'll still be able to win the pins, but you'll only be able to get a 2nd star.)

Also many of you have noticed that both the Disneyland and Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland Quests have been removed from the VMK website – don't worry, they'll both be back very shortly with a brand new Quest reward – the Red Inner–Space Suit Magic Spell. (Yes, this will be coming to the Magic Kingdom too!)

Ride On!

So did you like the little image of the strange critters last week? As many of you guessed the creatures are from none other than Alice In Wonderland (and of course, the Alice In Wonderland attraction in Disneyland). But what does Alice In Wonderland have to do with VMK? Well, Alice will help kick off something brand new for VMK – Dark Ride Attractions!

The Alice dark ride – coming soon to VMK!

That's right, the Alice In Wonderland attraction (as well as one more ride… but you will have to wait to see which one!) has been lovingly recreated in VMK! (How awesome is that?!) Now, to give you an idea of how much detail went into this wonderful new addition, over 120 new furniture items have been created – just for Alice!

How do the new rides work? Well, when they open take a walk over to the brand new Fantasyland Courtyard and enter through the turnstile, pay your credits (sorry they're not free – but you may win something very cool for just riding… more on that next week!) and hop on!

The team really pulled out the stops to make the VMK versions of these attractions as faithful as possible to the Park versions. We also added some new functionality to the game to help make the current ride system work better. The main change is a new animation system that allows items (like furniture) to animate when a player passes by the object. And just like the real Park attractions – our dark ride tracks do not allow players to hop off the ride until it comes to an end!

I don't know about you ride builders out there, but every time we have a Ride-A-Thon we have to block both sides of every piece of track. One more really cool feature is the new track system can support both Fantasyland Dark Ride vehicle types, how exactly does that work? Well, the track you use to launch the ride is associated with a vehicle type – so if you place an Alice Track starter – you'll get an Alice In Wonderland Caterpillar Vehicle. Place the starter from the other ride and… well you'll see!

Hair-raising New Style


Since we're on the topic of new stuff, how about a new hairstyle for boys and girls! In honor of the new Alice in Wonderland attraction we present Alice In Wonderland hair for girls! And for the guys, a cool new surfer do – perfect if you are a fan of Troy from High School Musical.

There is a new room in that picture so, either it's a quest or you buy it.

Curiouser and curiouser...

This is so exciting. i am really happy VMK is finally focusing on DISNEY itself. alice is a disney classic, and now they are adding all these amazing items to VMK from the movie, which will be soo cool! I am really thrilled for this new Dark Ride. finally, vmk, you have made me happy. :]

So from what I can tell, the ride movers thing is a catepillar, like in the ride at DLR! It is going to be a new room in Fantasyland but they are going to put the ride tracks on sale as well. Don't know if they will put out a room because then some people can exactly copy the ride they made. It would also be a lot of rooms to go on sale. They might just do one room that is Alice specific.They said it is just like the ride at DLR, so they would have at least 8-12 rooms in the ride. I think the riddle thing means there will be a winner everyday and you get one chance to pull the sword out of the stone. Maybe more than one, but not many. I think the one a day thing will be like the NPC's which are every 12 hours. The room pictured is the one where the queen is playing croquet because I caopied and pasted it into a word file, then stretched it. The Tulgey Wood animals won't be in every ride room (duh). You can paste it into word too to see more detail. Just my two cents.

Now just to find out what that Sword in the Stone is.

This is really amazing. Yavn and the Team have done some amazing things with VMK. The clear room button is great. The dark ride looks amazing. VMK is always changing and adding great new features. Great news and I can't wait to see this new stuff in the game!

A friend of mine had theorized Haunted Mansion some time ago. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks, VMK team for all your hard work! I'm excited for the dark ride(s). The new system where rooms and items are loaded as needed makes even more sense now. Think about it- right now, everytime you load VMK, you are loading all sorts of things you probably aren't going to see or use such as the Club 33 room and furniture. Imagine how much bigger the initial loading will take when a dark ride with 120+ new items is also loaded! If you want to ride the Alice ride, it is there to load. If you're just getting on for a quick trade with a friend, you won't load what you don't need.

Although Yavn doesn't specifically say when the mysterious second ride is coming, it almost sounds like it is coming at the same time as the Alice ride. I wonder if this second ride is connected with next month's mysterious theme, hence the secrecy about its title.

Also based on the parks, the sword in the stone is in front of the carousal. So maybe, we might be getting a carasoul as part of the new fantasyland hub!

It's been a while since I watched Alice in Wonderland, but if I remember correctly, she is playing croquet and using a flamingo as a mallet.

I am very impressed with this newsletter. Not only do all of the new additions sound great, but they are actually going to implement the room clearing feature that our members have been suggesting for months.

If I had to guess what the other dark ride would be, I'd have to say Snow White (since the girls have the hair style) or Peter Pan (with the new Tinkerbell movie coming out later this year).

The Carrousell added to Fantasyland? Of course. Didn't you notice the Sword in the Stone? They are both in the center hub at Disneyland's Fantasyland.

That's what's confusing me! Hopfully it's at least both, like maybe the public ride leads to a shop to buy these pieces, since there will be a lot of ride pieces and items in this set. If it's only for us to ride for fun, this whole thing is going to become a flop

The newsletter said that you go to the courtyard and you enter through the turnstile to ride it. They have the ride pieces to buy for yourself along with 120 alice themed things but the actual dark ride Alice attraction you ride in a public vmk room but most likely the room is not seen on the overall room map like the courtyard will be......

the clear all is very nice. no more clicking on and removing fifty crates. and YES! for dark rides. ive been hoping for a while they would make some really good rides in the game (ones very similar to the real things). And im hoping for mr toads as well, which is in fantasyland. but alice is awesome too. i just hope if all those new items do end up being released (not too sure that they will be though) that they arent the standard 300-500 credits a piece.

I'm really hoping the ride they are talking about is a staff one to give us an idea of how everything works, and it also would give us another public ride room. With the "example" of a ride given, i hope they also sell all these items so we can make our own rides and participate in a possible ride competition sometime may..meaning we start april. Who knows, maybe these 120+ items will go in a new shop....will the coffin teleporter in the Emporium finally be used?

I am hoping that it will be a new way to award prizes, so the hosts can get out of the boring "teleporter" games. They will put on the homepage: "New Holiday Pin for riding on Alice ride, today only!", Or something like that. You go through the turnstiles, pay your 50 credits or whatever, have a fun ride, and get your items! Notice how he said they made tracks so you can't get off until the end. Now the hosts don't have to sit for 3 hours, watching a boring teleporter game. That way, hosts can go back to games, quests, trade rooms, and yard sales; like they used to do back in the old days.

I don't necessarily think that this is stuff we can buy and build ourselves. He said nothing about 'Dark' guest rooms and stuff we can buy. Everybody is really jumping to conclusions here.

The 120 new items are easily spread out through the new rooms, I think. Plus, I don't think VMK public rooms have the same "item" limit as guest rooms.

Comes down to "legendary" ride vehicles:
Alice was a given, Small World is a boat ride, Pirates and Mansion (Doom buggies!) already have their own VMK representation, and Roger Rabbit was in Toontown--

So, that leaves Pan ships, Snow White mine-carts, or Toad cars.
My bet's on Toad, but wouldn't mind the ships (seeing as they've already designed them for the Dream Pirate chairs)...

Now the hosts don't have to sit for 3 hours, watching a boring teleporter game. That way, hosts can go back to games, quests, trade rooms, and yard sales; like they used to do back in the old days.

I don't necessarily think that this is stuff we can buy and build ourselves. He said nothing about 'Dark' guest rooms and stuff we can buy. Everybody is really jumping to conclusions here.

I don't know about you ride builders out there, but every time we have a Ride-A-Thon we have to block both sides of every piece of track. One more really cool feature is the new track system can support both Fantasyland Dark Ride vehicle types, how exactly does that work? Well, the track you use to launch the ride is associated with a vehicle type – so if you place an Alice Track starter – you'll get an Alice In Wonderland Caterpillar Vehicle. Place the starter from the other ride and… well you'll see!

Ok, this confuses me. I only see about 8 items. I don't even see how there are 120 items in that room. Isn't the limit like, 100?

The ride will likely be several rooms long. We've only been shown one small piece.

It counts as a dark ride. It's dark, there are black lights, what more do you need? :)


Okay, maybe we should get a ride like that too, Maybe get some animated Heffalumps and Woozels to go along with it, that would be cool.

well they didn't make 120 new pieces to go with the log rides they should do that so we can have virtual splash mountain and maybe 120 new pieces for space mountain and everest too and just like the queen of hearts an everest yeti to go along with it :) that would be cool

Alice was a given, Small World is a boat ride, Pirates and Mansion (Doom buggies!) already have their own VMK representation, and Roger Rabbit was in Toontown--

So, that leaves Pan ships, Snow White mine-carts, or Toad cars.
My bet's on Toad, but wouldn't mind the ships (seeing as they've already designed them for the Dream Pirate chairs)...

ok well being a WDW person ive never been on this ride. but its about time we are getting ridaeable rides! ever since i first saw the matterhorn ive been wanting those! now all we need are splash mountain, space mountain, and pirates! no i would pay big credits to ride those

Wow! Fantasy land and.. and.. sword in the Stone! I love that new dark ride! Me thinks I will like next month! (the first month I actually likeed for a looong time..)

I'll come right out and say it - I'm disappointed.

I know they put a lot of work into this, and it sure looks like everything is pretty awesome, but I can't help but wonder how long until the novelty of the new ride wears off and people start going "what's next". We'll start complaining about it the same way we complain about the Jungle Cruise "ride".

On the other hand - if they created "Alice's Croquet Game" that handed out credits for a relatively simple, if fun, game, and then gave us all these new items to work with ourselves - that would be awesome!

But instead, they're making people expect to get prizes from riding - so now people who built rides in their own room will have to do this. (On the other hand, they're also charging people to ride. So maybe it will be ok for room builders to do this too, when they give us the tools to do so.)

It also sets up problems for the future - instead of creating broad themes and lands for us to play in and build on, now they're pre-packaging our creations. Instead of creating games for us to play inspired by those themes, that will change every time we play, they're pre-packaging unchanging rides. And they're going to have to keep pre-packaging more and more rides because we're going to keep demanding "something new" (a call which already has started).

I hope I'm wrong. I hope this is just a way that we can get new and better tools that we can use to build awesome rooms, games, and quests. We'll see.

Well, in Disneyland in Fantasyland there is a Sword in the Stone show where people from the audience try to pull the sword out.. and that picture looks just like the one in Disneyland...

The "Sword in the Stone" show at Disneyland is a lot of fun. And some lucky kid gets to be King (or Queen) of Disneyland for the day!

Maybe instead of paying, we could have tickets, and use our E tickets for some rides and our D tickets for other rides....

Yeah I know. There's so much in park stuff that no one will trade and they just laugh at you when you say you can't go to the park.

Woah, some pretty cool stuff to com back to. Well actually, I'm not back yet, I just found a computer. At WDW, they have that Sword in the Stone and a CM talks about it and you can take pictures of people trying to pull it out. ^^

So this is what they were working on. 120 items is a lot and it looks like fun. And it seems like you'll be able it buy the items and ride the ride. And another useful tool is added. ;)
