Ok well my family, friends, and I are all going to Disneyland soon. But I have a problem, my parents want me to go on CALIFORNIA SCREAMIN'!!! I'm not good at roller coasters at all, and this ride looks to scary. I need help to choose, to go or not to go on California Screamin'.:music-smi :dancing_gir-smilie: :jack:

Well, just remember that you may be making it seem more scary than it really is. The worse you can do is go on and not like it. It's not like a scary movie that will give you nightmares, you can just close you eyes and hold on. Then you get off and you'll be fine. ;)

Ok I am not trying to force you to go on it, but you should try to face your fears! Remember on the Tower of Terror when you almost cried and you wanted to leave, but you went on anyways and you loved it! I think you should give the ride a try! If you dont like it then you never have to go on it again! At least you could say you tried it!

That's how I was with Rock'n'Roller Coaster. I was pretty much fine, because I couldn't see the ride, until we were in the loading gates, and I started to cry once I heard people screaming.

The people in front of us, a mom and daughter, told us that the daughter had done the same thing her first time.

Now like, three years later, I loveeeeeee that ride!

In other words, try and it might be your favorite ride!

California Screamin' is awesome. Best ride EVER! But, if you don't want to go on it, tell them you don't want to. I'm sure they'll understand. You'd miss all the excitement of Disneyland for a silly ride?

What is this "Screaming California" by which you speak?

It's a roller coaster in Disney's California Adventure. It's pretty good from the videos I saw.

California Screamin' is a fun ride, but if you're too scared, just don't go on. There are plenty of other fun things to do at Disneyland! You can always come back someday when you're older and try again.

I think your idea is a good idea!! Guitargirl you should just say something you love over and over again. Just do something to take your mind off of the fear like listen to your iPod or think happy thoughts! Remember I will be there with you!! If you get scared I will be right by your side!

haha.. but then if you ride with your eyes open, you can see the ground and stuff.. idk if that made sense or not. I just don't like knowing how high up I am >.<

California Screamin' is definitely the biggest thrill ride in the resort in terms of forces, inversions (the only one), and speed but its more tame compared to the extreme roller coasters you'll find a typical theme parks. What also helps heighten the experience (and often provides a pleasing distraction from feeling all the forces) is a synchronized on-board music soundtrack that's pretty good.

Here's a few things that I do while riding California Screamin' at certain notable points on the ride:

1 accelerated launch (lean head back for the accelerated launch or else you'll hit your head)
3 large drops- I always intentionally lean forward against the shoulder restraints to minimize the forces you feel on your upper body.

1 right after the accelerated launch and incline
1 right after the slow incline (this one is the biggest drop), after this drop, lean back for the loop/inversion
1 right after the inversion/loop (this one is more likely to catch you by surprise)
1 inversion/upside down loop
this is one part where you definitely want to face forward and lean back. Do not look to the sides. I always lean back so that the strongest forces would be felt on my lower body rather than my head. If you lean forward during this loop the forces will your body to crouch into the vehicle and the full effect of the forces will be acting on your head, not a great feeling for those that might not like inversions.
And I do agree with some of the previous posters that you definitely do not want to close your eyes for any thrill attractions. What you visually will distract your concentration on the forces acting upon you because if you close your eyes, your mind and body will so focused on the forces you're feeling, that these forces will seem "magnified" than if you had your eyes open

I personally think that post has made it sound scary Map. lol. :)
Thread Starter: If I was you, I would feel bad with myself if I didn't fight my fears on rides I didn't want to go on. My parents used to just tell me "You'll be fine, close your eyes if you don't like it". And that's what I did. Now I love all rides everywhere, and I put my arms up on them all. If you don't try it, how do you know you don't like it? Try it dude, it's a little roller coaster, and it's Disney, what could possibly go wrong with Disney?!

Funny I do EXACTLY the opposite of what you do NaviMap and well now I know why I have nightmares every time I go on California Screamin' :).

I would be forced to go on it and try to get on it ASAP to get it over with.
I've been through this lots of times with many rides.

Ah, here's where I have to disagree with you. If you're looking forward, you miss out on the fun of watching the whole world turn upside down! I love looking to the right through the loop (especially when sitting in the left seat, so I can see my riding partner in front of the rotating world)!

That clearly depends on if you get motion sickness or not. :)

You couldn't get me on CA Screamin' for 50 bucks.

maybe for a hundred. ;D

I love looking to the right through the loop (especially when sitting in the left seat, so I can see my riding partner in front of the rotating world)!I posted the ways to minimize any ackward forces that would act on one's body which can cause a stir for riders prone to headaches, motion sickness, dizziness, etc.
