View Full Version : Soda & Caffeine= Nasty
DinoVan 03-24-2007, 06:55 PM soda, is nasty. it may taste good but read this and think about it.
it has anti-freeze in it, stuff you put in your car!
it puts holes in your stomach lineing too.
what happens when you drink soda
20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat.
40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.
60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.

theastroA 03-24-2007, 07:01 PM I can't have caffeine, I get really sick and won't be able to go to sleep that night. And I don't drink much soda anyway. Maybe one or two during a party, and it can't have caffeine! I wonder if the caffeine-free soda does something simliar to what you just said...
futuremartymcfly 03-24-2007, 07:02 PM Well, a quick comment.
This is what happens with anything that contains sugar or caffeine, so make sure you don't think your safe just by avoiding Sodas.
Candy, Cake, Cookies all have high amounts of sugar that are pretty excessive, and lead to more fat then is needed.
Most fat you produce is good fat as it stores energy, and if you have a high metabolism rate that energy comes out quickly.
However, low metabolism leads to mass storage of fat that is much harder to burn.

granacci 03-25-2007, 01:15 AM Caffeine isn't all bad. Studies have shown that Caffeine increases ones alertness and decreases tension. Caffeine has also been shown to Increase your reaction time to do something when compared with someone who didn't drink a Caffeinated beverage. Its down side is people can become dependent on it, so just take it in moderation. :)
Irishchick 03-25-2007, 02:13 AM Not to be mean but i really think you are over reacting WAY too much. I seriously doubt that pop has anti-freeze in it. That's just dumb, what are companies trying to do, poison us? I don't think so. Ya that's great that you try to avoid pop, but you're acting like if you drink it you're going to die. Enjoy life and have a Coke! :)
Penguinz 03-25-2007, 02:14 AM Soda is disgusting, I only drink it once and awhile.
I perfer milk and apple juice.

Q: What causes pimples?
A: Fundamentally, this is how a pimple occurs. When things are going well, the sebum smoothly leaves the pore and imperceptibly melts on the skin's surface, helping to keep the skin surface moist and smooth. When things aren't going well, as when the pore becomes plugged with sebum (oil) and dead skin cells and bacteria run amok, a blemish is the outcome. Surplus sebum is generated primarily by hormonal activity (stress, the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, birth control pills, or certain medications such as corticosteriods and lithium can act as a trigger). When too much oil is produced, it can become mixed with dead skin cells from the skin's surface, with poorly sloughed skin cells from the pore's lining, and with small pieces of hair debris from the follicle. This combination of sebum, dead skin cells, and small pieces of hair can clog the pathway out of the hair follicle/oil gland, creating quite a backup. Now, you've got problems.
When your body produces too much oil, and dead skin cells on the surface of the skin or inside the pore aren't shed normally, they can join together in blocking the exit from a pore. All this excess oil and dead skin cells solidify as a soft, white substance that plugs the pore. If the surface of the pore is covered by skin, it is called a whitehead. If the pore is open, without any skin covering, the top of the plug is exposed to air and darkens, causing a blackhead.
Whiteheads and blackheads become pimples when bacteria begins growing inside the plug, causing irritation and inflammation. This inflammation and excess oil causes the wall of the oil gland to rupture, spilling the contents (oil, cell debris, bacteria, and all) into the surrounding skin tissue. The body's immune system then responds to the inflamed area to help with repair (and causing swelling), and you now have a pimple.
Gentle cleansing is the first place to start. Once you stop using drying, irritating, pore-clogging soaps or bar cleansers, and you realize how nice your skin feels when it is no longer dry and irritated, you will never go back to the old way again.
Nowhere in there does it say that Junk food causes zits. Info provided by: http://www.askjanice.com/letters/causeofpimples.asp

CaptianNemo 03-27-2007, 10:01 PM soda, is nasty. it may taste good but read this and think about it.

Anti freeze? no
What you understand is this Rumor..
“The polyethylene glycol in soft drinks is also used as anti-freeze in automobiles and as an oil solvent“
Truth..
This rumor confuses polyethylene glycol with ethylene glycol, a different substance that is used as anti-freeze. Polyethylene glycol is not an added ingredient in soft drinks, but it is safe and suitable for use in foods and beverages, according to the U.S. FDA and other regulatory authorities.
