SSweet 03-09-2007, 01:49 PM Im going to see the farewell preformance :( THEY are replacing the show with the Little Mermaid on Broadway. That cant be as good as Beauty and The Beast
jsmall 03-09-2007, 05:43 PM Oh that stinks our school did Beauty and the Beast Two years ago. I hope i get the chance to see the broadway performance before it leaves.
JeannieV 03-09-2007, 06:09 PM This is very sad news. I hope they keep up a traveling company for the show.
AwesomeTom 03-10-2007, 01:29 AM I am actually going to see Beauty and the Beast this April during our vacation. I am very excited, but am devestated it is ending. Such a classic should live in our hearts forever. But if it is like "Grease", it will be back one day, and we'll have Jean working her way to be Belle (Haha!).
camara 03-10-2007, 01:31 AM Wow, the broadway version is leaving!?
DerekJ 03-10-2007, 02:22 AM Well, the opinion of the NYC theater-fan community was that the original production had been around a few years past its freshness date:
There was the joke when "Lestat" was playing:
"Did you see the vampire musical?"
"No, but I saw the Disney one with zombies in it..." :FLipToungeSmilie:
catgurlars 03-14-2007, 03:59 PM That's right folks. Beauty and the Beast is closing in July and The Little Mermaid is coming in August. I am hoping to see the closing show of Beauty and the Beast, and shall be posting a review.
Also, The Pirate Queen just opened up March 6th 2007 with previews and will have it's opening night on Thursday, April 5, 2007. Stephanie J. Block plays the title character (Wicked-Workshops,National tour; Boy from Oz)
Legally Blonde the musical will open up next month with previews. Laura Bell Bundie plays Elle Woods (Wicked Glinda Standby-2004)
Frenchie Davis leaves Rent after her four year run in the ensemble, and soloist #1.
Wicked welcomes Julia Murney, Kendra Kassebaum and Sebatian Arcelus (sp) to take over the roles as Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero.
The Producers closes in April. There are rumors that the original cast will close the show.
Lea Salonga Joins Les Miserables as Fantine, and replaces Daphne Ruben-Vega.
Bob Martin left The Drowsy Chaperone March 11th.
The Apple Tree, starred Kristin Chenoweth, closed on March 11th because it was a limited engagement.
As for my Broadway experiences this year, I saw Rent in January. It was awesome. I saw The Drowsy Chaperone March 4th, and I'm seeing A Chorus Line, the revival tomorrow night with a friend. I hope i have a full cast! It will be my 18th Broadway show.
Please post comments and your thoughts and maybe share some other Broadway info with us ;-)

I did not know THIS was becoming a musical. Funny...
... and we'll have Jean working her way to be Belle (Haha!).
You can count on it!

i was so sad when i first heard about that a while ago.. i've seen the show 3 times now(2 on broadway, and 1 in the west end) and i must say, it is an amazing show.. i'm curious to how they're going to pull off little mermaid, but they should have gotten another theater.. this is too good of a show to close.. :/
Lea Salonga Joins Les Miserables as Fantine, and replaces Daphne Ruben-Vega.
I was so hoping more of the original cast members were going to come back for this one.. but, they didnt when it closed last time, why now? i so hope i get to see lea this time around..
and i can't believe Daphne was Fantine.. if her true voice was how she was as mimi, then i dont even want to image her singing 'i dreamed a dream'..
SSweet 03-14-2007, 11:56 PM Alexa Vega is in HairSpray! When is she leaving? I hope to see her! OMg im going to see a farewell preformance. I love the show so much!

Yeah, people didn't like her as Fantine. I was going to see Lea's 2nd performance with my school, but my teacher gave my class the option to go to six plags. And a since the kids in my class are immature they chose six flags..ugh. I actually liked Daphne as Mimi. But at the 10th reunion, her voice sounded dried out. Jamie Lee Kirshner is like x1000 better lol.
And also, Beauty and the Beast opened up in 1994. It's been 13 years. Otherwise every Broadway site would have a notice for a 10 reunion performance.

oh, i agree.. for mimi, she was pretty perfect (plus its that whole original cast thing - you usually cant beat them..) but Fantine? i didn't see her, but she has that, gosh i dont even know how to explain it.. raspy squeeky voice? i never liked mimi's songs much (especially out tonight, ugh..), but she was good at the part..
DsnyManiac 03-17-2007, 04:03 AM I knoooow!

By the way, even though this is kind of off topic, but I saw A Chorus Line on Thursday night with a friend, and it was amazing. Too bad I couldn't Stage Door =(.
catgurlars 04-22-2007, 06:56 PM Okay, guys- more Broadway updates:
The Pirate Queen opened up April 5th and according to most people and reviews, it stinks. Looks like I'm not seeing it.
Legally Blonde is opening up on April 29th. So far, it got good reviews in San Fran. I hope it does well so my mom will want to take me.
The Producers closes today, 4-22-07 after running for 6 years.
Daniel Radcliff comes to the US in spring 2008 to be in the British play, Equus, which is closing on the West End June 9th.
