View Full Version : Shorter Wait Between Posts
PaperClip 03-12-2007, 11:49 PM I think that we should get a shorter wait between posts. I know it is there to help prevent spam, but I just think one minute is too long. I have been exploring other sites, and this is by far the one with the longest wait time. I know this is the biggest VMK Fan site on the web, but hey, the second biggest one has quite a few members and posts as well. BUT, they have a wait of 20 seconds. The largest one I have seen so far, is 30 seconds, then 60. Perhaps a donation for a shorter time might come into play.
Just my idea.
Neoteny - You would just love this, wouldn't you?
Goofyono 03-12-2007, 11:50 PM I nvr knew that... so does that mean If you post something then wait a minute and nobody posts... you can post again and that wouldn't be double posting?

No, no, no. After your last post, you have to wait 60 seconds. Then you can post again. Just to cut down on spam.
Goofyono 03-12-2007, 11:53 PM No, no, no. After your last post, you have to wait 60 seconds. Then you can post again. Just to cut down on spam.
oo... I also don't like when you search something and it says " The Process takes 15 seconds pease wait 1 second " or something like that
PaperClip 03-12-2007, 11:54 PM oo... I also don't like when you search something and it says " The Process takes 15 seconds pease wait 1 second " or something like that
I don't use the search that often. I usually just scroll through the categories or forums etc.
TopazR 03-12-2007, 11:59 PM Hmmm... seems to me if you're posting so frequently that 60 seconds between posts is too long, then the posts can't have much substance. I don't know of many people who can read a thread, formulate a response, and then type it out in less than 60 seconds.
Just in case anyone is questioning our use of the term "posts of substance", let's look at what the Site Guidelines For ToonTownCentral.com and VMKForums.com (http://www.disneysonlineworlds.com/index.php/Policies_and_Disclaimers#Site_Guidelines_For_ToonT ownCentral.com_and_VMKForums.com) says about spamming (http://www.disneysonlineworlds.com/index.php/Site_Guidelines:Spamming).
"Spam" refers to posting identical and/or irrelevant messages to one thread or many different threads that has nothing to do with the intended subject that disrupts a thread or fills the message board with clutter.
Mass PMing people you don't know or who haven't invited you to PM them, boosting post count, excessive bumping of threads (you are allowed one bump per thread every twenty-four (24) hours!), one or two letter replies (i.e. ok, LOL, Yes, agreed, nods) and excessive use of smileys as a response are all considered "spam".
This applies to all forums, threads, posts, private messages, userpages, profiles, avatars and signatures.
Neoteny 03-13-2007, 12:00 AM I have often run into the "please wait n more seconds" message, as I'm sure surprises nobody. But I don't mind it so much. I think the forced wait does more good than harm, and I'm willing to wait another few seconds to get my latest two cents in. (Hmm... two cents times 13,137 posts equals... wow, I've donated a lot of "money" to this site!)

I am one of them then. Usually I will get it, and have to wait about 10-45 seconds.
Neoteny-Doesn't surprise me.

I can lol ...
Wendot 03-13-2007, 12:04 AM I have seen many posts lacking any substance that came in a post/minute spree from different users. I'm glad we have the time limit between posts. It shouldn't be a person's objective to see their name as the "last poster" on every single thread in a row.

I am extremely impatient, and quick the post button like every four seconds if it tells me to wait ;) Usually my weait is anywhere from 5-40, like yours, and mine have substance, but I'm good at getting my point across.
Hahaha.. neotony, sometimes I just click on the look at posts thing on you because you make me laugh so hard (I get bored with all the Rpgs, and currently can't go to any guests room or do any trades thanks to the increase of brokwn computers, yeah, now my dad's computer broke too -_-)

That isn't my objective, I am just trying to post, and express my opinion etc.
Not to brag or boast, but it doesn't help that I am one of those that types very fast.
Wendot 03-13-2007, 12:12 AM Not to brag or boast, but it doesn't help that I am one of those that types very fast.
It is bragging if you need to add a disclaimer. Having a high WPM typing speed is completely unrelated to the rate of posting. The time it takes to think about WHAT to post and HOW to phrase a post is independent of typing speed.
-rcv- 03-13-2007, 12:15 AM I can lol ...
TopazR's post should have read:
"...people who can read a thread, formulate a(n) intellient, meaningful response, that makes a worthwhile contribution to the site..."

I know, I know. Most of the time, I have it prewritten in my mind, then type it out.
Goofyono 03-13-2007, 12:26 AM You know what.. I think it's no big deal actually. I mean you only wait like what 5 seconds, let's just drop it lol
Neoteny 03-13-2007, 12:27 AM I've been told to wait 59 seconds a few times... when I've accidentally double-clicked the Post button.

Go get some fresh air for that one minute lol
Evil Kid Bugs 03-13-2007, 12:35 AM As you lie upon death's bed
Waiting for the reaper's touch
Muse upon the life you've led
And wish you didn't post so much
What should you have done instead
Of writing posts to fill a gulch
No matter what, you'll still be dead
And likely just end up as mulch

Anyway, I'm fine with the wait between posts. It gives me a chance to go read other posts instead of posting consecutively every couple of seconds. :)
GBShorts 03-13-2007, 01:03 AM You're forgetting this is also an issue in PM's.
I get that ALL the time where someone has asked me one question and i have a few word answer...then get another one fired back to me again and have to make another post right away.
snowegoof 03-13-2007, 03:09 AM Ah!!! EKB!! You dont suppose his dark poetry could be spam? i dont think deeply so i cant understand it x_x
magicgirldude 03-13-2007, 04:55 PM I don't mind the wait in posts. But the wait in PM's sometimes gets annoying, especially if I'm talking to more than one person. But maybe it's there to help with flood control on the boards.

I agree with this one. This is the only case where it is annoying. But I do deal with it.
DarthMelissa 03-13-2007, 05:16 PM I agree with this one. This is the only case where it is annoying. But I do deal with it.
Here here! Can I help it that sometimes I want to just say hi (dang character limit!) and I don't want to send the same message to everyone, maybe I want to use a different emotie for different people ;)
Is there any way that the restriction could be removed from just the PM section? Since they are "private" messages it shouldn't matter about posting time, should it?
Neoteny 03-13-2007, 05:20 PM Since they are "private" messages it shouldn't matter about posting time, should it?
Spam is just as much a concern in private messages as in public. Perhaps more.
DarthMelissa 03-13-2007, 05:25 PM Spam is just as much a concern in private messages as in public. Perhaps more.
Stop spamming then Neoteny :)
I guess I'm lucky as I don't receive any "spam". When I do receive a PM, I'm like a giddy little kid on their birthday. I guess some people have problems with it.
EDIT: Here's a thought. Maybe it could be a personal setting, the posting time delay, for PM's?
-rcv- 03-13-2007, 07:34 PM Like Neoteny said, the need for the delay in sending PMs is even more important than posting in the forums.
Some nasty people have tried to send inappropriate PMs to the members here. Since it's not reasonable to be screening all of the PMs being sent, this could be a serious problem.
One thing we do is limit the number of users that a PM can be sent to at once. Another is the timer that slows down how fast they can send out the PMs. Then, we have ekb working undercover in disguise, waiting for the nasty users to send nasty PMs to his innocent self.

PaperClip 03-13-2007, 09:47 PM Lol, -rcv- about KidBugs. Good one ;)
Maybe we can just get the delay lowered to 50 perhaps? Or maybe just a donation that you could make to allow you to post like once every 15 seconds. Just my thoughts about the situation.
mari517 03-13-2007, 09:50 PM Well I go on another sight where it takes a half an hour for your post to be able to be seen by everyone... It's to check on the like bad stuffs, lol.
But I think that either way is fine. This sight is actually pretty fast
Xxx
PaperClip 03-13-2007, 09:52 PM The only thing is, your account might not be activated on that other site. Here, before yours gets activated, you have to wait for a while too. Just until a mod or an admin can check it.
PaperClip 03-14-2007, 10:10 PM I just got told to wait 60 :( I clicked it twice, just like you, Neoteny.
Oranges 03-14-2007, 10:34 PM If anything, the wait might get bumped up, to slow certain people with 12,000+ posts from going on constant posting sprees.
Wait, there's only one person with 12,000+ posts!
I like to think of the posting limits as speed bumps.

Sprees, huh? I dunno, maybe the people with 12,000+ posts just have a lot to say. And a lot of free time.
lemonysnicket3 03-15-2007, 12:16 AM Its to stop anybody from catching up to neoteny xD
